Thank you for your question and I am happy to clear this out for you!
To explain this very simple and without going into the mechanical things what happens in your gearbox.
      THE GENERAL RULE is that:
      - You use clutch when you gear up
      - You do not use clutch when you gear down.
There are exceptions for PRO riders who some times do not use clutch to gear down to gain that extra little bit of speed, but usually their bikes have upgraded transmissions, their gearbox can take more damage and so on.
      WHY?
      1. When you gear up, you want to allow the gear to set in. Especially if you are on the throttle on the straight line. Not using clutch when you gear up, ramming in the gears can damage your gearbox and ultimately you can also lose speed and momentum. It is recommended to practise gearing up with clutch and have this technique into your muscle memory - you will benefit in speed (as a general rule)
      2. Gearing down you do not want to use clutch, because you want to brake with the engine. If you use clutch, it frees the rear wheel and you may even gain speed where you actually want to slow down.
But again, there are exceptions, mostly for PRO riders, but as a general rule I recommend to learn the above.

@@MotocrossAdvice i appreciate this coach! coz ive been using clutch whether up or down on gears but sometimes it wears me out too.. maybe not clutching during down shift will minimize a little of that arm fatigue.... do you mind if i share this write up on my facebook?

@@jonesesente7646 I would recommend you to not use clutch when gearing down. Especially on the braking line, because a) You have braking bumps and as you said especially if your arms are tired grabbing for a clutch can be risky b) You want to use your engine brake
I agree that using clutch can speed up the arm bump, but when gearing up you want to use clutch only a little bit with one finger to help the gear set in. You definitely do not need to grab the clutch til the end, just a little is enough. It really comes down to practising and getting the feeling into your fingers where clutch engages.
You are free to share the information wherever you see fit :)
