The way I see it, it's not Arya, it's still Jon who fulfilled the prophecy. He alone united the factions against the white walkers which set key events in motion that will eventually lead to the fulfillment the prophecy. Arya's role was just a part in the bigger picture. In a somewhat similar fashion, Aegon conquered the realm in order to unite them against the walkers, due to the dream that he had. He only didn't know when the threat will happen, thus this prophecy was passed on from Targaryen to Targaryen until Rhaegar's son was born. It's like everything was fated.

Exactly. Arya doing the final deed doesnt negate the fulfillment of the prophecy. Jon and Danny brought the pieces to the table. They created the army that stood against the walkers.

The blade is magic. When it cuts Rhaenyra it connects her bloodline. It was to be Jon or Daenarys, but the blade also cut Catelyn Stark, so Arya's blood was also tied into the prophecy. That's how it could be. Would explain a lot and make a nice story.

What I believe what is happening is when Aegon had the blade scribed with his secret message in Valerian; it actually "cursed" or like the blade took on the message as itself speaking it. So whosever blood was shed on the blade their family bloodline can fulfill the prophecy. Cat Stark's blood went across the blade, so that could include any of the Stark children.

I always thought that Arthur Dayne's sword "Dawn" was going to be the real "Lightbringer." As it was forged from metal from a falling star (meteorite), and has a blade described as "pale as milkglass." In Jon's birth scene on the show it even has blood on it making it the fit with the prophecy stating "when the red star bleeds" and they purposefully linger on it in that scene to infer Jon being born under a star. I thought for sure that when Jon was trying to give Longclaw to Jorah Mormont they were setting up him needing a new sword that could kill the night king and that Dawn would somehow end up in Jon's posession (perhaps the result of Bran's visions leading him to it).

Have you considered that lightbringer is Drogon?
In the books Xaro Xohan Daxos described Dany’s dragons as flaming swords. Below is the exact text.
“When I went to the Hall of a Thousand Thrones to beg the Pureborn for your life, I said that you were no more than a child,” Xaro went on, “but Egon Emeros the Exquisite rose and said, ‘She is a foolish child, mad and heedless and too dangerous to live.’ When your dragons were small they were a wonder. Grown, they are death and devastation, a flaming sword above the world.” He wiped away the tears. “I should have slain you in Qarth.”

@@thecringeprince2040 no one in the books or the show ever claims that lightbringer will kill the night king. The prophecy only says that the prince that was promised will fight. It also stops and intentionally mentions that Azor Ahai will not fight alone.
Also in the books Azor Ahai made three blades. The first is tempered in water and breaks. The second tempered in the heart of a lion breaks. Only the one tempered in the heart of the spouse doesn’t break.
Dany has three dragons. Drogon tempered with the heart of Dany’s spouse survived. The other two are fated to die. One fighting the greyjoys (water) and the other the Lannisters (lion)
The show cuts out this prophecy and the Victorian magic horn subplot. So it’s switched up a bit. But it still loosely fits. Viserion dies fighting ice (water) and Rheagal on the way to fight a lion. Only Drogon tempered in the heart of Azor Ahai’s spouse survives.

Dude it’s not Jon; everyone with a brain figured out who Jon was within the first book (there was 6+ chapters talking about Ned going south, Rhaegar crowing lyanna after the tourney, Rhaegar “kidnapping” lyanna, ned going down south in search of lyanna, Ned following the clue and then hears a screaming woman who gave birth, and then Ned shows up with Jon claiming it’s his bastard and everyone in disbelief about how the “honourable Ned” would never do that; some of these chapters are back to back). By book 5, Dany (who wasn’t even alive when when Rhaegar and lyanna ran off) knew that Rhaegar “loved his northern girl” and ran off with her (and wondered if Dario would do the same with her by saving her from her marriage to Hizdahr )… Jon’s identity a *red herring* as far as the throne is concerned especially since he’s a bastard. The show made up an impossible scenario with the marriage to Elia (who was a dornish princess who sired 2 healthy heirs: Rhaenys and Aegon {aka Faegon aka Young Griff}) was annulled to legitimise Jon; this is because by season 6 it was too late to introduce a new character, Faegon (who is the actual threat to kings landing and Daenerys’ claim)
people are holding onto Jon, like he’s the *sole* solution when in-fact his entire existence was purposefully manufactured by Rhaegar (who was obsessed with the “prince that was promised” prophesy). Rhaegar believed he was the chosen one (God’s gift to the world). By the time he realised he wasn’t the saviour, his ego and his inflated sense of self-importance made him think his seed (his meat-stick’s special-sauce) is the gift that keeps on giving. He had Rhaenys and Aegon/Faegon via Elia (the first 2 heads of the dragon); this is when he proclaimed Faegon as the “ptwp and his will be a song of ice and fire” but to finish his trio (“the dragon has 3 heads”) he still needed his Visenya. *enters Daenerys (high AF on ďřüğś she got from a creepy dwarf) in the hotu being casted through time seeing-vision & spoilers; she sees Rhaegar declaring Faegon as tptwp and its implied he might have saw her (a Targaryen girl with no dornish features) suggesting to Rhaegar he must finish his trio out of wed-lock. This is when the ever-opportunistic Rhaegar (22) “seduce” lyanna (14) because she was good with a sword and described as being tomboyish (like Visenya) and cause through her northern blood, his kids would be connected to the Northern threat (this was Rhaegar’s beautiful delusion). Obviously Rhaegar never lived long enough to see his third child
Rhaegar is the most misrepresent character in the books, and like Melisandre, him clinging onto prophecies and trying to fulfil them led to a continental war (and the extinction of his family and kin) the effect of this still echoes in the books since people are constantly waging war trying to usurp/over each other for the throne (the only people who are left suffering from this is the common folk)

The show ending is not the book's.
GRRM told D&D to write a different ending and not to SPOILER the book plots & characters. This is why season 7 & 8 made not sense.
However, the book ending is easily figured out when you know that any nonsense, plot armor and complete change of character ... are hiding book spoilers.
Tyrion is suddenly a moron in season 7 ... means Tyrion in the book figures out something very important about himself especially why he wasn't killed by the Draeney's dragons that smelled his blood in Season 6. On look. Jon is being smelled by Drogon and not being killed. Hmmmmm? Isn't that an interesting?
Season 6 had Bran heading to Winterfell to Tell Jon & Sansa that they are COUSINS and Jon is a Prince(Ned promised) and Bran had just reached the Wall. Season 7 starts with Bran being lead through the Wall, and conveniently getting to Winterfell to tell Jon & Sansa that they are Cousins, and Jon goes to Dragonstone not knowing he is Daeny's nephew. Clearly Jon & Sansa will marry so Jon remains the King of the North ... and ... Jon tells Daeny that
"You are the Queen" & "I'm not interest in the Throne." lol.
And need we forget Daeny not dying after Drogon is shot down by a scorpion arrow ... then ... Deany not dying on Drogon, in front of the Night King, on the ground ... and the Night King taking aim at the smallest dragon flying in the sky which Drogon flapping his wings on the ground. LOL.
The Azor Ahail ... is the Three Heads of the Dragon.
Each dragon rider takes the throne then dies ... but together ... they save the living from the dead.
Jon is simply the Last Hero ... of three. He is the Prince that was promised to Sansa. Jon was not suppose to survive. He & Sansa were to marry ... and likely see becomes the Queen and with child.
So the proposed Jon Snow show would have to get Jon & Sansa together with child ... GRRM is clearly making these two the new Ned & Kaitlyn .. especially if Jon dies not die in the books,
Go on. Rewatch Season 7 ... knowing that they are trying not to spoil the book and are doing a different ending.
The house of undying vision in seaosn 2 are clear: daeny takes the throne in winter then dies north of the wall. GRRM approved those visions.

I haven't read the HOTD books so I don't know what happens to Rhaenyra's children, but is it possible that either Ned or Caitlyn had some valyrian blood somewhere in their family tree? Cause the slightes bit, coming from either mother or father, is enough to make Arya someone who "came from" Aegon's blood...

Littlefinger is not the one who sent the assassin to Bran- it was Joffrey trying to impress his father, who drunkenly said the boy should be put out of his misery. Littlefinger lost the dagger in a bet with Robert. I agree with you, although I'm pretty sure it was pointed out that Joffrey did steel the dagger from Robert's store of old daggers. Joffrey had no clue what this dagger was, he knew it was Valeryan Steel. I think the dagger being lost in a bet story was all made up by Littlefinger just taking advantage of the scenario. It helped him perfect because him and Lysa killed Jon Aron and blamed the Lannisters, which started everything in GOT. Robert stored away and hid everything Targaryon after he took the throne, I think the Targaryon's had the dagger until Robert's Rebellion. And I do confuse the show and the book I've read and watched it all multiple times and it's been a while. Hard to remember what came from where at this point. A song can be a duet, of fire and ice. Which could encompass both Jon and Dany as being the same parts to the prophecy, being Jon/Aegon is literal combination of Fire and Ice, or Jon and Dany together as being representatives of both. And they both are direct descendants of Rhenayra/ Aegon the Conquerer. Or it doesn't have to be either of them dealing the killing blow, but rather the song is about the people they gather around them and the journey, battles and sacrifices it takes to defeat the great evil Aegon saw.
To make the end of S8 work into this, Fire could be represented via the dagger ,as it was probably created using dragon fire, and Arya as the representation of Ice as a Stark, as the Hound puts its, she's a COLD little bitch. Fire and Ice could be seen as Arya and Jon, maybe that metaphor is meant to say that a Stark and Targaryen must bond in order to bring this about as the threat was coming from the North and it was Jon who encouraged her to practice sword play.
And in the Azor Ahai story, the Hero had to kill his wife to bring forth Lightbringer......maybe killing Dany -who Jon still cared for, was THAT part of the prophecy and killing her brought forth a new era in Westeros, aka Lightbringer. I feel like House of the Dragon is helping to shed a little more light on the prophecy having no true boundaries or rules besides the two important components being Ice and Fire.

Also, in HotD they're still saying "prince" all the time, in both [English] and Valyrian... at a time where there were plenty of people who *knew* knew the language and would instead use something like 'heir' or 'royal heir' or other non-gendered 'not-quite-ruler' term as opposed to 'prince' when the prince/ss distinction is so very much at the core of the conflict of the show.

Aegon's Dream is that a Targaryen must sit on the Iron Throne (lead) to defend the world from the White Walkers. It didn't require the rulers to outright fight or kill the enemy. The same is for Azor Ahai because Lightbringer doesn't have to be only used by Azor Ahai. It is likely that Azor Ahai paved the way for uniting people against the White Walkers and building a weapon that can ensure their complete defeat.

I'm all for the Night King and the Great Other being different people in the TV canon afterall. Perhaps even the idea that the white walkers were always ultimately a minor nuisance in the grand scheme of things and they had it all wrong - the night king's forces moving south was not the existential threat, they were trying to get away or ahead of whatever the real danger is. I mean in the end, even with a dragon and the ability to animate the dead the Night King did less damage than Ramsay Bolton - he either *was* the Night King from the book (just an offshoot opportunist, probably a Stark second son) and the rest of the walkers are still out there or the white walkers were not the actual prophesized doom of humanity. Normally I wouldn't be excited for a show like the proposed Snow show, but the biggest complaint about GOT is that they had two more seasons of story that they bailed out on. I'm on board with HotD going out of their way to make things from GOT work a little better and Snow picking up the dropped balls on the back end as long as the GOT writing team isn't allowed anywhere near either project.

Jon marries Sansa in the book to remain the King of he North.
D&D were told by GRRM to write a different ending and to no spoil the book. This is why nothing in Season 7 & 8 makes any senses. Any ridiculous plot armor ... means that characters dies in the book.
So were there any ridiculous plot armor in Season 7 ... to keep central characters alive who should have have died?
      Ohhhhh, hell yeah.

How on Earth do people still not get that the prophecy was obviously not to be taken literally, I mean at all: Jon is (!) Azor Ahai, ending the "Long Night", which is the figuratuve (!) "darkness" of the unstable, violent times that had come over Westeros, by killing Daenerys (who's obviously his Nissa Nissa at the same time, after he had "killed a lion" = helped kill Cersei). The Night King is mostly in the story for some characters to mistakenly take the prophecy literally, look up misunderstood prophecies in Greek mythology / in Shakespeare's works (or at least Star Wars...) and tell me that's not exactly the kind of thing an author like GRRM would do...
