John Barnes * I really enjoyed watching your video and how you did the wood burning. Its nice to see someone else who let's there cats get involved too. Thanks for sharing your video,as I'm just getting back into doing it again after 20 years of not doing it.👍👍😇
I 'm just getting started on wood burning, and saw the side bar for what was coming on next when I saw your's a little farther down. What a beautiful picture that you,the cats, and you'r wife made. That was just amazing!!
+Rochelle Aronson Thank you, Rochelle! I'm planning on creating another wood burning with watercolor soon.. and I'm sure my cat will jump on my shoulders again haha
Grazie
came for the art, but was pleasantly surprised by the cats. also I loved how the two of you worked together on the water coloring part. great teamwork~
This is very beautiful, im doing a set of three botanical vegetable prints in this fashion and wondered if you sealed it with anything. I just used water color out of tubes because thats what i had in hand.
fantastic, brilliant pic, so good when you can draw free hand. What is the name of the wood burner that you are using? Only thing i would have liked is for it to be slower and you talked... Otherwise brilliant job.
I love ur cats && how they own u && will pretty much do whatever they want. .. whenever they want & they will sit on whoever they want!!! I fucking love it !!
Wow! This is awesome. Good job to the both of you! I personally have never been too good at watercolor, but watercolor pencils have always been nice for me-- just the nice, water-y/transparent look to it always makes me happy. I'm amazed that you made the whole plank itself and then wood burned it so well! I've been wanting to get into wood burning and I've been searching for some good videos, and this was a good one. I do have to say it was a slight bit dizzying because it was a bit too fast for me, and the high-pitched noise (while I really liked the fun background noises in certain parts) wasn't very pleasant, but it was extremely entertaining aside from those things. You are a very blessed by the Lord with talent and with adorably hilarious cats! God bless you! Awesome job. By the way, would you tell me your opinion on the Black and Decker Dual-Temperature Soldering and Craft Iron you used here in comparison to other wood burning tools (or at least what you think of it without any comparisons if not)?
Great video! I do pyrography as well and really want to use water colours as an added bonus but Im concerned about the colours almost covering all the burning I've done. Does it cover and hide majority of the line work and details to a noticeable degree?? Dont want to waste all my hours of hard work for it to get covered :(
With the watercolor pencils I used there were no issues covering the wood burning. Try burning a few lines on a scrap piece of wood and then painting over it to see.. you could always run over any areas with the pyro pen once dried. Definitely would recommend a mask in this approach.
how long did it take for them to make this design and with what medium of paint they used pencils in colors, acrylic that was not ... that they used I could not distinguish .... good video
I am beginner at wood burning,so have a question on the beginning of the video. I do love the look at the end, but could there be easier way to have the split sides effect than going through all the phrases of cutting & gluing putting back together the planks ? Wouldn't using something like a router work?
Man was this satisfying to watch. Even the special kitty head massage was great! Fantastic stuff!!! Nice combination of different art firms and techniques. I am curious about the your sketch pen here. Fountain pen? Looks like a Pelikan on fast glance but it appears maybe it is some kind of demonstrator. (???) Love the editing and how you showed the whole process.
I sketched everything using a Paper Mate ClearPoint 0.7mm mechanical with HB lead and burned it in with a cheap Black & Decker burner/soldering iron. Finally, I completed it using Derwent Inktense Pencils (watercolor pencils). Thanks for watching!! :)
Hi. In love wiht your work and your cats... Did you used watercolor pencils? Did you used any kind of varnish to protect the draw and de wood? Once again great job!!!
Thank you! Yes I used watercolor pencils. I did not use any sort of varnish to protect the wood... Yet. I'm hesitant because I don't want the watercolor to bleed. If you or anyone else has suggestions please let me know!
Have you tried cheap thin superglue as a varnish?i tried it in two of my guitars as a grain filler and light finish and its great...plus if you sand it down that it creates only a thin film of pretection then you can shoot actual varnish above it without any issues. By the way...great work....i want to make a floral pattern using pyrography on a guitar and you have given me inspiration..thx.
Jonathan David Woodworking On a piece of scrap try putting some inktense pencils and then spray polyacrylic varnish for a test. This should not move the inktense as you are not rubbing it with a brush. 😆
Actually the inktense should not go anywhere as they are permanent once dried, since I saw you activating them with water. This is where they are different from watercolor pencils, because they are ink and permanent. 😆 You should be just fine spraying them (test anyway though 😉). I highly recommend that you do varnish though because several of the colors you used I believe have a lower lightfast rating. If they aren't protected they have a higher chance of fading if in direct sunlight for to long. Derwent has a lightfast chart on their site if you need reference for your colors. 5 and below on the scale of 8 is considered low to not lightfast...I would stick to 6 and above for non personal pieces. I hope this helps! Wonderful piece. 😆 I do Pyrography as well over on my channel.
I'd use a spray fixative or acrylic. Just make sure you spray it in very light coats while it lays flat, not while it's hanging. And allow it to dry between each coat while it's flat so none of the watercolor will run.
hi!! i love your work its so inspiring! and the cats! haha lemie not get started. but could you please tell me where you get your wood, and also which type of softwood is it??
+edwin wang'ang'a All the wood I have purchased from Home Depot or get for free from friends. I used pine board in this video. Very easy to burn deep. Thanks for watching!
OMG! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing! What brand hot tool are you using? Is the stand part of the tool or did you get that separate? If separate, where did you get it, or who is it made by? I'd like to check it out. And are you using water color pencils or regular pencils? Or did you use markers? Last one, I promise...Do you ever use a finishing product like a varnish over your burn projects, or do you leave it natural? Thank you!
So... Jonathan is one of the cats, right? 'Cuz they're obviously in charge of the workshop.
This is too true
