Took my two year old up to ouzel falls last year and man I need to hike this trailhead more often this year. Gorgeous, but after taking a bunch of detours with him exploring we ended up close to 7 miles round trip.
Nick, Mom & Dad. I’ve been hiking in RMNP since mid-1950s. I remember when parts of EP still had wooden sidewalks. In 80’s through 2010 I hiked with a group who from time to time was as large as 20 people. Most of them have passed on to their after life & of those remaining only handful can still take short hikes. I love your videos. They make me cry at times for joy & other times from memories of friends & hikes. I am unable to travel to EP & RMNP this year due to the virus. Your videos are very important to me. Thank you.
What a fun hike! I absofrikinlutely LOVE Bluebird Lake......thanks for letting me join you, as always. You were a drill sergeant, but hey....how else do you get your old mom into shape! And thanks for the great doctoring on my arm!
I live vicariously through your videos. Last year was the first time I visited RNNP and I camped on the West Side at Grand Lake as I'm not much into crowds. I'm a flat lander (KS) and usually trail ride. But RMNP has so many beautiful hiking trails that I started walking our local horse trails with my horse to get somewhat conditioned. ;) I was suppose to be at Estes Park in the middle of June to check out the east side of RMNP, but Covid and the metered entrance had me concerned. So in the meantime I will enjoy hiking with you and your momma. Thanks for creating such beautiful and informative videos. You have a wonderful gift.
Your hike videos are epic and I have used them to prep for adventures in the Park. I probably watched the Alice video like 5 times before I did that amazing loop. I am curious to hear your thoughts on the Garmin Inreach that you have in this video. Several reviews I have seen said that the device is great for staying in touch or summoning help (pray I never need that feature), but they have found it lacking in the navigation. What are your thoughts?
Great Video Nick! I am going to Boulder next week and now I have this added to my to do list! You and your mom are so cute! I wanted my mom to come and hike like you and your mom also, but can't this time.
Actually.. I have never backpacked overnight. Im the day hiker. If i cant do it in a day then I dont try for it.. but I know there is some good camping back in the Comanche Peak wilderness.
@@BohemianAdventurers Back in the Comanche Peak Wilderness north of the Mummy Mountains they have some trails that are pretty far out and there are lots of campsites. Last time I was in that area I had people asking me where I was camping. Lol.. I love that area back there. Just did Signal Mtn yesterday. Amazing.
Awesome!! This is my goal this summer! Have some conditioning to do first since last week Hallet was a hike fail! Could only make it to Flat Top!! haha:) This video makes me think I can get there by myself which kinda scares me, but I'm gonna go for it!!!
Congrats on Flattop! You were so close to Hallett. The good thing about Bluebird is it is heavily trafficked for most part. So if you try solo and get in trouble there will be people around to help. And really, its a pretty mild hike around the waterfalls. Only those last couple miles are the steep ones.. but the amazing scenery always keeps me going!
So gorgeous, and I'm definitely envious right now! Also, might I ask where you'd recommend picking up a good set of spikes and a second also, have you ever hiked around the Taos, NM area? I've chosen to go there in Sept (depending on what the virus is or isn't doing around that time) and it'll be my first venture there. I really want to get back into RMNP but haven't had a chance yet. I still plan on that Bear Lake down to Bierstadt then on to the Hollowell TH for the ride back up to Bear on the shuttle. If I can get in lol. Thanks for sharing once again, lovely video as always!
Thanks! I get pretty much all my gear at the Mountain Shop in Estes Park. Amazon has them too of course. Ive never hiked in New Mexico.. but I would like too! Good luck on your trip.
Thanks so much, hoping for the best. If anything a great solo adventure in a place I've never been to before if possible. I will have to make a stop by that shop my next visit to Estes for sure :)
I dont know what is wrong with mine. On my last 2 hikes it has my routes going all over the place. They look like when you draw a star.. its throwing mileage off bigtime. Seems like tight, steep switchbacks are where is goes wonky. So im pretty much giving up on using it to track distance.. but its still good for altitude, comms and a SOS.
@@nicksangetta8874 mine does that rarely (usually in canyons probably because of reflected signals) but it's not common at all. I have the 64st. Which model is yours again? Could be a difference in the satellite constellation being used (US GPS vs Russia's GLONASS).
@@alquinn8576 I got the Inreach Explorer. But my route down the Camel was all kinds of FUBARed. It had me on the other side of Longs, then over by Meeker.. crazy variations coming down that added 3 miles when it should have been about 0.2 miles.
Thanks! I think the permit system is ultimately bad.. gone are the days of waking up and deciding to go to the park. Nope, needed to have planned it weeks in advance.. I mean it keeps people out so that part is good, but I'd rather trade a few extra people for my basic freedom.
Hard to say! So many different ones. You got Alberta Falls to Longs Peak and everything in between. I pick hikes pretty much on my mood and what the weather is doing.
This mom is off-the-charts great. What a lady.

Your mom is a real trooper Nick. It's nice to see that she is able to share the beauty of RMNP with you. You two will never forget these times.

Did this today. Was rough the last mile with lots of snow still. Especially last .25 mile

LOVED IT ! I don't know if I will ever make it up there but thanks for bringing us all along!
Beautiful area and no crowds makes for enjoyable hiking.

Have you ever gone past this to Pipit lake? I'd like to give that a go on the next trip to RMNP.
What are your recommendations for backpacking (backcountry) camping trails Nick? I figure you HAVE to be the right guy to ask!!

Typically, I trust my Garmin over the signage. Somewhere I wrote down the mileage I recorded to Bluebird, will have to look when I'm back home.
