Arcade Game: Frogger (1981 Konami)

- A maze game where you must move your frog to home as it's final destination. The first half of the screen is bi-directional flow of traffic including buses, cars and race cars. Players must avoid these vehicles. Frogs can move safely with the flow of traffic to make their way to the second half of the screen, which consists of a river with fast moving logs and sinkable turtles. Frogs must hop on the backs of the logs and the sinkable turtles to get to the home base at the top of the screen. At random times throughout the game play, a lady frog will appear on a log. Bonus points are scored if the frog successfully hops on the back of the lady frog and escorts her safely home. A fly will also appear randomly in a home base. Bonus points can be scored if the frog hops in the home base when the fly is present. Sinking turtles also swiftly move across the river with the logs. If a frog is unsuccessful in hopping on a turtle's back, the frog will sink and drown. Crocodiles, snakes, and otters also roam the moving river waiting to eat frogs on their way up to the home base. Players can hop on their back (except the snake, whose touch is deadly), but they must avoid their open mouths. The frog must be lined up perfectly to enter one of the 5 home bases. Players must maneuver the frogs to their home base within the allotted time (60 beats on the timer).
The frog can move vertically or horizontally by maneuvering the joystick. Players must maneuver the frog swiftly and precisely without getting run over, drowned, or eaten by the creatures that roam the flowing river. Avoiding traffic, deadly snakes, otters, crocodiles, and the treacherous diving turtles make game action stimulating in Frogger.
Other versions of this game are known as Frog.

Just as it was when I was 10 years of age. My father had an enormous projection screen monstrosity and he let us connect the 2600 to it. We were video game gods in our neighbourhood because we played our Atari on a 50 inch projection screen television. Unknown to my dad, the Atari tended to burn through bulbs.
It's a shame you didn't have a supercharger and the Frogger made for the 2600 supercharger. It is a much more faithful port of the game. Most importantly, it has all the music right.
A well played game George Costanzo would have been proud of.
Frogger’s one of my favorite arcade games.
I learned to cross the street from this game(2600 version) Taught me to look both ways.
Me too!
Seriously? Where are your parents?
Oh man I loved this game in '81 - it was in every bar I used to go to. I got really high scores, if I played before I started drinking.
I remember seeing a arcade table version cabinet of this game back in a friend of the family's basement in Ohio for 1 of a few Thanksgiving family reunions back in when I was very young. It was also the same time I lay my eyes on the vintage 1981 Donkey Kong arcade cabinet. Good memories! ^^"
Oh shit, what up Frogger?
I found it >:)
This game gave me episodes of anxiety. Fast, faster, then squash! More please!
Certainly my oldest memory of a video game, seen one day in a bar while I might have been 6 or 7? I was under shock how cool it was, then I learnt programming my own game on small computers available at that time and 42 years later I still have fun programming
Used too play this game on my dad's flip phone, i miss thos days

"FROGGY! WAIT UP!" ~ Big the Cat, Sonic Shorts
classic and one of my favourite arcade games.
The song at the beginning of the game is a Japanese children's song called "Inu no Omawarisan" (The Dog Policeman).
Lol I actually heard that song several times watching Shimajiro to learn Japanese. That's awesome.
I remember those bad days in the 80s. Logging companies using the waterways to transport their gear whilst you couldn't move on the roads for tractors and formula 1 racing cars!!
Given the alligators, I'm assuming it was Florida, and am, therefore, not surprised by any of that.
My favourite arcade game. in 1982 I scored 97,000 on one in the Central Arms in Newquay whilst on holiday, must have been about 30 people watching me as the top score when I went on was 6,000
If you are good at this game, your frog goes through. If you are bad, your frog goes splat !
can't believe I wasted so many quarters in the arcades over this back then.
It gets addicting once you get into it
NOT WASTED!
@@hardtfeltYES WASTED!
I remember the arcade version as a kid. This was first released in Japan by Konami, and later released in the US by Sega/Gremlin. This was one of early Sega arcade titles. It was later ported onto many consoles like Atari VCS/2600, ColecoVision, Intellivision and many others.
I play Frogger everyday as I cross the highway to get to the bus stop.
probably the only frog that can't swim. LOL
You gotta love these challenging games. _Frogger_ is pretty cute.
I remember playing this on some old T-mobile flip phone, along with a variant of it and pool.... those were the days.

Game Over
@SealAngel "entire".
Cool game to play back in 1982 i remember
7 lives seems generous, especially for an arcade game
They must have adjusted the Mame settings. The arcade standard was three. 🐸
So the frog cant swim... but you get points by throwing him into water in the last section?
Ok I guess
And the frog is the same size of cars and trucks
There is some grass in the win area
And also a GIGANTIC crocodile, bigger than trucks

I remember in the arcades, there was a game in the early 1980's where you had to climb a tree to get points. I was the first game I played.
Kangaroo?
I'm probably the youngest person in this comment section. My first experience with Frogger was a 2010s ticket redemption game where the only input made Frogger go forward without stopping. There were no cars, but there were bugs that gave you small amounts of tickets for running into them. The far side of the river held the jackpot, but I never made it there, always falling into the river since I couldn't control myself.
It was frustrating.
I hear frogs croaking at night around my house and it drives me nuts.
I remember playing a similar game on my mom's tablet and being deathly horrifed of it
Fun fact this was one of the first games I ever played
i remember this game. one of my favorites...
Not sure if this is the right day, but happy anniversary Frogger🎉
Ralph- Thanks Frogger
I bet that frogger took the concepts from nintendo’s space launcher and redefined it into a frogger game, so while nintendo is normally known to take inspirations to redefine it , but i give this to konami as they futher redefined the concept from soancher and being more fun & attractive.
“Eat the fly! EAT IT!”

I never played this game much. The unforgiveness of it with the meager reward just didn't make it worth it.
Ladies and gentlemen, the next Smash Bros character
With what 4 moves?
This looks nothing like Byleth.
Would be great actually ..
@The Once And Future King
After playing Pac-Man World 3, of course it would be easy to put him in Smash.
But playing Frogger: The Great Quest would make me easily look away from that though about Frogger being in Smash.
@@KenMasters. Actually, it wasn't, the Pac-Man World series are pretty obscure in Japan, infact, Pac-Man World 3 was a western exclusive, Sakurai and Namco made a moveset from zero for Pac-Man based totally in his early arcade games (and some other 80s Namco arcade games like Mappy, which is where Pac-Man's up B came from).
Made me laugh as a kid when frog got flattened by cars
This video was made on my birthday
You make this look easy .. this was an incredibly hard game :)

@@OptimalillusionAre you talking about Activision's Freeway on the Atari VCS?
Does anyone know what version of Frogger the version included in Arcade Advanced is from? It looks fairly similar to the arcade version, but the music is removed and the sound effects are completely different. It almost feels like it was a port of a Famicom version, but to my knowledge, this game was never released on it or the NES.
I have the same one you're talking about and i have no clue lol
I saw somewhere there were licensing issues with including a lot of the music in ports of this game.
I used to play this when I 8 years old

Crossy road took froggers idea
Does anyone remember an old frog jumping game similar? It was 3D platform jumping, you were supposed to find a princess, at the end when you kiss her, she becomes a frog though since she's just a hollywood princess. Any ideas?
My favorite game
Only me that came here to check out what game they talk about in the tv serie The Last Ship season 5 episode 9 :)
This like crossy road when you use a frog
The water is filled atrazine, that's why it kills Frogger.
Claude from GTAIII must've suffered the same case.
You are good at solving Riddles
The best game ever!
Jerry... I've seen this before.. I can do this
Pretty sure frogs can swim. Why does the frog die when it goes in the water? Isn't that where they live?
Today’s we played this game in gym
430 u got lucky. An alligator appeared.
Clasico de konami
This classic arcade is from Donkey Kong (GameCube).
YOU COMMENTED ON THE WRONG VIDEO, FOOL!
I've played too much Frogger. Arcade, Atari 2600, that little portable Frogger. OMG! I can't play this anymore. Is that weird? I play it and it I just know it, like WTF. Is it disgust I feel or defeat. I mean look at it, it was like a developmental game like Pac-Man, Q-Bert, Mario Bros. (I still like playing Mario Bros. the never ending thing), Galaga, I mean WTF! I don't even want to put this on my MAME file right now.
It's Frogger?
it's just odd that the frogs drown.
1:29 "I had a little dreidel, and I made it out of clay. When it's dry and ready, oh Dreidel I shall play!"
WTF
@@mariodykstra6555 It's a Jewish-American Hannukkah song, that I learned in grade school. "I had a little dreidel, I made it out of clay. And, when it's dry and ready, oh dreidel I shall play!" The Chorus goes "Oh, dreidel dreidel dreidel, I made it out of clay. Oh dreidel dreidel dreidel, Oh, dreidel I shall play!" These two Frogger songs fit the tune so perfectly! I have some words for NES Baseball Stars songs!
OK
@@mariodykstra6555 Other examples: The US Navy has Anchors Aweigh, and the words start "Anchors Aweigh, my friends, Anchors Aweigh!" The US Air Force Song has words "Off we go, into the wild blue yonder, climbing high, into the sun..." The University of Michigan song Hail to the Victors begins "Hail to the Victors, oh oh, hail..." I believe that video game songs have words, just like these fight songs!
The Original Jaywalking
3:23 "Dreidel dreidel dreidel, made it out of clay, oh, dreidel dreidel dreidel, dreidel I shall play!"
Again WTF
@@mariodykstra6555 Like these from NES Baseball Stars: "Oh, my wife and I, lived all alone. In a little straw hut we called our home. She loved gin and I loved rum!" ruclips.net/video/EgNEmOqA8Zw/видео.html
@@mariodykstra6555 My point is, like college fight songs, military branch fight songs, video game songs have words, too! Please take a listen to this NES Baseball Stars song: "Game is done. It was a real long run, it's a small world after all!" Or, "So much we share, that it's time we're aware, that it's a small world after all!" Or, "The mountains divide! And, the oceans are wide, and it's a small world after all!" ruclips.net/video/N49uWYrCB10/видео.html
I thought it was a dog because it has a collar. But it’s as otter.
