Ford South Africa were riding the crest of the wave in this era ! With Basil Green and Willie Meissner riding shotgun !

Beautiful work. Having very fond memories of thrashing my dad’s Perana around town in my late teens. (He was a tolerant type and taught us to drive as soon as we could reach all the pedal.). Great car to improve my skills. Dad called it Burble because of the noise it made. I drove it in hillclimbs and at Kyalami a few times (though I had to stick to racing my Toyota…). Would love to lay my hands on one today. Sadly, not a thing in Canada

cabdriveruk: Hi Jeff, Thanks for watching, & your nice comment on the car, great to hear you once owned a Capri too, I remember seeing a lot of them in Tawny Metallic, around that time too, lovely looking cars, and I adored working on this one. a friend back in the early 1980's had a GT on a H reg, which was the last time I worked on one, so it was great to be a part of this project,

Very nice motor although I would prefer the interior to be stock.

After owning an original `72 Perana in South Africa in the early 80`s i have to comment that although it looks a tremendous car i doubt that it is originally a Perana.I see no identification badge in the engine bay and i`m pretty sure they were built from late 70 onwards, definitely not in `69. There are lots of `tribute` or fake Perana`s around.

It’s a beautiful car for sure, when I saw the thumbnail I thought it was a Cologne, I’ve never heard of a Perana, can you tell me a little of its history please.

I owned a Perana Capri for a few years. They were unique to South Africa and was the only production V8 Capri to exist. Only 500 made for homologation purposes. Used a 5.0 liter Windsor V8 and a Borg Warner 4 speed gearbox. The rear axle was from Australia as no locally available diffs could handle the power. In Standard production form they made about 290 BHP.

@@SeanGavin-rf5vdthat makes sense mate, thought engine looked like a Windsor so finished off with Oz drive train, the good old GT falcon was a thing in SA as well think they might have called it a Fairmont something, anyway thanks for the info
