    Between yourself, Gregg at Fishplate films and Luke Towan, all I can say is good on you Aussies. You have one of the most versatile minds in this hobby and thank god you have. Keep safe my friend. Frank U.K.

    Just was thinking about shorter made magnet couplings today and than this pops up. :))
    Excellent solution and pretty too.

    Hi Gormo! I missed that great video since I was on vacation. Fantastic economical idea. Just need some paper concertina connections to make the rake look prototypical. The manufacturers make such wide coupling gaps to cater for the Train Set 1st radius curves.

      G`day Ray,
      Hope you had a nice holiday.!!!
      Thanks for your comments.
      The paper connections are covered in the September Update

    I think you should change your station & channel name to innovation central! Another great way of doing things. I never even thought of using pins & insulation as a coupling armature in all my attempts at close coupling! Maestro!

    What a great innovation i don't know how you think of all these alternative fixes for model railways and they are cost effective thanks for sharing 😎😎😎

      G`day Mike,
      I don`t know either ?????......I guess I just decide on a project and then think it through and keep going at it until I crack it.
      Lots of experimenting went before what you see in this video.

    ¡Hola buenas días Gormo! Just absorbed the contents of this video and, I've taken masses of inspiration on board. Not least, the use of the 3mm diameter magnets, as a way to equipment my dedicated shunting wagons with auto uncoupling units. As ever, your methodical approach to solving an issue has paid off and, as you said, this is for your requirements and, if anyone else can use this method for close coach coupling then, that's a bonus. Just off to check on the state of this afternoon's static grass applications on the goods wagon storage yard - then some much needed shut eye! Stay safe and well. Un saludo. Gary

    Great idea, Gormo, I will add it to my too long list of rolling stock jobs and may get round to it in a month or two. A guy at my club bought some of the commercially available magnetic couplings and found them too brittle, so he won't buy any more, but your ones seem just the ticket!

    • @greatchesterfordjunction

      G`day Davil,
      I`ve never tried the commercial product, but that`s interesting that you say that..???
      The little sewing pin in my version is quite strong, so I don`t anticipate any issues there.

    As a follow up system to your wagon couplings, I think you're onto a winner. It might also be possible to squeeze a non-functioning, scale three link coupling with hook onto the buffer beam just to aid with the appearance aspect. Thank you for posting and stay well.

      Currently working on corridor connectors to improve the look as well.

    Fantastic idea Gormo, certainly looks far much better than the ugly couplings that Hornby have been using for years, even though recently they have reduced their size, but yours are far better. Congratulations. Cheers Greg

      Thanks Greg,
      Yes once you remove the old couplings the coaches are transformed.
      I have some small Bachmann couplings on some other coaches and they are not too bad......begs the question " is it worth converting them ? "

    I tried something similar, then I realised that if I used two magnets at each end, with the poles reversed on one of each pair, then I wouldn't have to worry about which way round the coaches are placed. I am currently working on a system that uses single magnets that can rotate, but it's a bit more complex!

    • @greatchesterfordjunction
      @greatchesterfordjunction  2 года назад

      G`day Graham,
      Yes I think a rotating system is the ultimate solution......good luck with your experiments.

    Great idea, I am an advocate of these neodymium magnets. But I don't like having to put my vehicles a predetermined way around. You could fix this if you mounted two magnets on a short transverse bar with, say, the N pole always on the right and the L pole always on the left. With two magnets, they could probably be even smaller and so might not be much more obvious.

    • @dekhrahahoon
      @dekhrahahoon 3 года назад

      Error: Should be S pole always on left.

    • @greatchesterfordjunction

    Ingenious my friend - very impressive. I was pursuing similar but as I model in a larger scale I've now decided upon couplings mounted in the bufferbeams where the hooks are usually mounted. Can you now add some card concertina corridor/vestibule connectors? That would really finish the effect off well.

    • @greatchesterfordjunction
      @greatchesterfordjunction  3 года назад +1

      Thanks Muso,
      I have started experimenting with corridor connectors, but I`m having a derailment issue with them on one tight curve.

      G`day Bill,
      Well that could well be so, but this video was done almost two years ago and these coaches are still running with the same couplings without a derailment or any other problem.
      I would reckon that`s fairly reliable and much cheaper than Kadees.?
      Cheers
