Thanks so much for the nice comments people! Usually based in Somerset but this was filmed on the north devon coast. I'll post up the route on my instagram
Hi Owen, Are you the guy I have seen in a few of Francis' videos? This is a good insight in to you and I agree, far too much focus on sitting in an office and conforming to society. It's great to break away from the norm and get the mental health for you in order. Have a great day, Nathan
I can relate to this. When you get "the cycling bug" it's so easy to be swept up in the race community, marginal gains, the best, most race-like bike. I started to realise that I had lost the reason of why I was riding. I took a step back, focussed on riding for myself, or with friends, not worrying too much about speed and distance and keeping up with the 'fast lads'. Now with a baby, I'm so grateful for the headspace, freedom meditation that riding gives me and gets me back on my game for day to day life ✌🏻
This is one of the best short films I’ve ever seen on RUclips! Beautifully shot and really inspiring. Love what Owen says about cycling and the simplicity of it too. I’ve never thought of it like that
Respect to you Owen. I lost my Dad under very similar circumstances a couple of years ago and amongst a host of other things, it served as a very blunt reminder that you can plan and work all your life for a day that never comes. Your closing statements rang very true for me; 'There is always going to be someone faster, there is always going to be someone more interested in it'. Very simple - if you find something that you love doing - do it because you love it, not for any other reason. P.S that food looked mega.
Best one by far. Owen speaks deeply to me and hopefully others who have found cycling to better their lives but needed a reminder to be true to yourself. Thank you guys as always
A nicely shot film- lovely to see the South West (and Lynton) featured. I think it's story will resonate with an awful lot of people after last year. Chapeau Rapha- again!
Thank you for sharing with us your beautiful perspective in life and in cycling, Owen! Thank you always to Rapha for finding beautiful humanity connected to cycling! Cheers!
Relate to this so much; work in finance to make ends meet, but that is not enough for the soul. Need to take a leaf from Owen's life and make some meaningful changes. Great video by the way
Loved this film. It really speaks to where I am with cycling, wrapped up in a cycle of training and racing but then remembering that cycling is my release and my headspace too.
Hello Owen, We use to go to circuits at CXH where you were the fittest there. I've really missed that over lockdown so just do a few exercises in the park on the way home from work. Looks like the Valley of Rocks and the climb to Dunkery Beacon.
Oh, this was uploaded on my birthday.. and puts in words exactly why I personally feel the urge to get on the bike whenever life as we know becomes "uncomfortable". We have an ideea about how should we live our lifes, but basically we're just drifting in a complex mix of past, present and future...away from some of the most basic and important needs of our body and mind. That focus, problem solving short term thinking is where we get a taste..of.. life ..I guess. Maybe we transformed, distorted life in a way that is not serving our bodies and minds well beeing anymore?!
That's it... I'm finally going to buy a bike and get involved! I'm in very similar same position (albeit not currently a hobby like it was for Owen) of being sat behind a desk in finance, watching videos of cycling and thinking "that looks like exactly what I want and need right now".
I'm 3 months in... Got myself a gravel bike after that comment and last night finished my first 50km ride around the country roads and tracks of Salisbury/Wiltshire! Feeling awesome working towards an 87km sportive that I have signed up for on September 26th. Love it.
Excellent film. Really nicely shot and monologue was very nicely put together. However, if this guy is living on a farm and not asking for any income. How can he afford the Rapha gear and other stuff life throws at you in general. The idea of this retirement to the countryside to focus on your hobby is inspiring, but I'm genuinely curious how do you achieve it without income ,savings or inheritance?
Why do you tell your little story like you have been though some sort of great struggle? You quit a career to be a farmer/baker... you don't race your bike but you still ride for fun. BFD. It is not like you have done anything special. Not a thing. Why does the millennial generation think that everything they do is some sort of victory for the human race? You are just like the rest of us.

That shot where's he's descending to the sea is a thing of beauty.

too kind - Thanks bro
These Rapha films are exceptional. Well done Owen for taking that leap, you’re a braver man than I.
Something about cycling that makes longing for simplicity almost inevitable. It shows how little is needed for joyful being.
Important, honest and heart warming story. Fantastically filmed.

This video is so nice because it is important to know why riding. That is answer !!

God I love these. If rapha opens up something in Pa I’d gladly come work for them.

Oh Mannnnnn Owen!!!!! Respect!
More power to you!!!!!!
Love films/ shorts that touch on the non-competitive side of cycling. Double points when they're emphasizing the importance of good headspace. Kudos!

Loved this film. It really speaks to where I am with cycling, wrapped up in a cycle of training and racing but then remembering that cycling is my release and my headspace too.
This is simply a beautiful and inspiring story.
Beautifully shot film and great story Owen
Very much enjoyed this. Really been feeling the plateau vibe that you describe so well, super relatable.
"You have to graft to enjoy the good times"
Awesome video. Reminds us to enjoy the basic pleasures of riding and not get caught up in all the numbers and comparisons. 👍
Beautiful story and well-done once again from Rapha
So much good stuff in there. And beautifully filmed.
Amazing! Awesome picture. Bicycle, sea, food! Lets go cycling everyone)
Spot on four wheels move the body .TWO wheels moves the soul
Absolutely amazing, inspiring video and a kind, wise man. Great work!
I just cannot get over the last shot

Hey Alan! I miss CXH too, I learnt so much discipline and control from Tyrone. Hope your well buddy
Beautifully shot and well produced! I found this to be very inspiring. Also 1000XP points for cycling with a toothpick! Onwards and upwards!

I totally agree with him.

i'd love the outfit, if it's ever in stock..

I think the "no income" farm episode was only at the beginning of the transformation of his life. Owen is now a Team Chef at EF Pro Cycling.
Nice!
this is so damn good!
Great video!
Use the front mech please :D
Besides the story, the scenery is beautifull as well!
What area is this? Is there a gpx for this route?
hy man ,i just posted it on my Instagram
@@Blandosa Love you man!
Some day.. i'll go there and ride that route.
sooo coool
Valley of Rocks? 😍
100%.
3:55, or so, “…more, more, more…” Let’s keep that but change take to give…. Let’s all try to give more and more…
Any idea what he was making? I know they were rice cakes but why did he put them on the burner?
They were Wild Garlic and sun dried tomato rice cakes, slowly grilled to bring a new texture to the dish
@@Blandosa any chance of the recipe? They looked amazing 🤩
✌🏽❤🚴
Does anyone know where this was filmed?
George, they dont pay you enough....
The only hipster accessory I can afford is the toothpick
Looks like Mark Cavindish's brother
Dam
main laif ,in liben- велосипед
A tad ironic... but that's also part of this human condition...
hipster,hipster,hipster and more hipster...........jesus christ
It bugs me when people tell their story and keep saying "you this and you that..." Dude, speak for yourself!
is this guy cycling with a..... toothpick in his mouth ? WTF ?
