If you think this might be a bit too long and you don't have the attention span, you're wrong, put the time aside and watch, this is Geoff gold. That bit where Ian asks about ADHD, the awkward silence and Geoff's body language... This is so good, interesting, you can learn all about RUclips and making videos in 52 minutes.
I love that the lady who lives in the station seems to have no idea who Geoff is, but likes him enough to make him a cup of tea. What a really nice lady.
@@geofftech2 Mrs Deakin, what an absolute gem she is. How sweet of her to make strangers a cup of tea. We need more people with that sort of kindness in the world.
52 minutes of pure honesty. No air or graces. Just raw emotion, openess and respect. Thank you. You really have made a diffence to my life. You've given me the encourgement, determination and focus to get out there and explore. In the last 3 years, I've covered so many transport based trips ranging from the Underground, Metrolink, MerseyRail, Croydon Tram and Glasgow Subway. Without your enthusiam and excitement for new adventures, I'd still have a very large bucket list to fulfill.
I cant believe there are people out there that would say they don't like you or your content! Thats rubbish. Watching your and videos Geoff is like watching an old friend. I look forward to everything and anything you make. Its a joy. I hope you never stop. Keep it up!
Such a brilliant, open and natural interview/conversation. No obvious edits, even during the uncomfortable bits, which is very unusual and engagingly fresh. Love your content and video style Geoff, keep it up!
That was such an amazing interview from Ian. Kudos to you Geoff for not editing out the bits that may make you uncomfortable. I wish you continued success in the future. PS Come back to Bradford and I'll help you fill in the blanks. For example, you need to see the poster at Low Moor which tells you what to do if the nearby chemical works explodes.
It may be your privilege to create your videos, but it is our privilege to be drawn into the stories, to travel to the various stations and on a wide variety of trains. I ran into your videos during the pandemic and got into the habit of sitting down with a milky tea and a couple of biscuits at 3:30pm and watching Geoff et al travel around London, the UK, and other places. And through you I've met the Tim Traveler who takes me to really odd places on the continent. For many years, I have visited the UK for work and have enjoyed using the trains and the Underground to get around and your videos take me back to places I've been before and to new places I'd love to visit. Hope before long I can get back to England (I'm American) and see some of the new places you have shown us. Thank you so much.
What you're doing isn't " just making stupid RUclips videos", you're sharing what you're passionate about, which is always brilliant. Also, for non-Brit viewers like me (especially, if their country --- like mine --- doesn't really have an extensive rail network), you're also taking us with you to brand new places, sometimes off the beaten path. That's great too !
I'd not heard of Ian before but he's an excellent interviewer, managing to set his subject at ease yet still ask insightful & probing questions, as well as actually listening to the answers and engaging with them. So many interviewers could learn from that.
Geoff, I’ve said it before but your “stupid videos” are so much more than the sum of their parts. I watch them all, usually on the day the are uploaded and love the detail of the content. Sometimes after a bad or arduous day it is refreshing break to lift my spirits, they help immensely. My work as a Hgv driver takes me around the country (by road obviously) and I frequently come across bits of the railway network that I have some strange snippet of information about. It just brings a little bit of joy to a day sometimes. Thank you
This is one of the best conversations I've watched on RUclips recently. I like Ians questions and genuine curiosity in Geoff. Glad we got to take part in it.
That was a magical video. So natural, just seemed off the cuff and compelling viewing. Gives us a better idea of the video maker's art, we just think you turn up, ride a train and take a video. There's so much more to it than that. Thanks Geoff and Ian
Thank you both for a tremendous video. A real fly on the wall experience of two intelligent, eloquent people having a chat. Also enjoyed the irony of you sitting in front of the poster notifying of the menace of the regularly deployed rail replacement bus service!
This is a Joy. Pure Gold. Pure Geoff from the heart. Ian you are a legend, you have made this possible in your relaxed interview style and manner. I really feel for anyone considering a RUclips future, this video should be watched. The highs, the lows, and the graft. Thanks to you both for creating and sharing this.
You know that's a wonderful little chat, showing natural enthusiasm is what makes something actually worth doing worth doing well. A brilliant break from the normal film format, to something deeply personal but still strangely familiar to all your viewers. Made me smile. Well done you two, with a special guest at the end as well 😄
Geoff, you are amazing - if it wasn’t for your videos, the world would feel a little overwhelming. I am high functioning autistic and your videos provide a calm space where I can centre myself with my area of special interest - I can’t thank you enough for providing some train / railway nerdity in my life and help me to stay settled when things get a bit much. You are awesome! 😅 I can’t thank you enough.
@@geofftech2 , no trouble at all! It’s only because of your Farringdon #PurpleTrain videos that I have been able to navigate my commute as well as I do. Keep up the great work you do! 😁
One of the best interviews I've seen in years! Ian asks exactly all the right questions and gets wonderful answers from Geoff who is very humble when discussing his life and work. Great stuff.
“I just make stupid RUclips videos”……I’d counter that by saying you also bring immense pleasure to people who may be struggling in their lives and find some escape or lightness in your content. Never doubt it ❤
I delayed watching this because it was "longer", but what an absolute gem of a video. Thanks Geoff for your openness and honesty and for Ian being able to ask probing questions in such a natural way. 😊 It's a shame you can't double/triple-like RUclips content...
Geoff I'm 70 years old and have loved railway since I was a small boy, your videos give me so much joy please keep up the great work that you do. Loved this video by the way.
Just......brilliant! 👏 The bloke that wrote "Parallel Lines" and the bloke that gave us that brilliant monologue about the railways from Corrour station in 2017. What's not to like? 🙂
Excellent video! I've been a subscriber for 8+ years and feel like I learned more about Geoff in the last 52 minutes than I have in the past 8 years! Ian did an excellent job, thanks mate!
When I saw the length of this video, I was a bit uncertain, but the time flew by. It was over before I wanted it to end. Really enjoy the genuineness, and I’ve always enjoyed your enthusiasm for railroads, Geoff. Another thing I have really appreciated about your videos, and it was true with this one, is all the extra characters you include on the ride. Ian is wonderful, but I love all your other friends we get to meet. I look forward to each new video.
Excellent, excellent video Geoff and Ian. Having travelled all through the UK by train back 10 years ago I am inspired to come back someday and travel some of these out of the ways lines. All the way from Sth Aust!
Hi 👋🏻 Geoff & Ian. Mrs Deacon is a sweetie making you both a brew 😊 I’ve no words to say how fantastic that was just chatting away. 55 minutes it flew by in what seamed like 5 minutes lol 😆 just awesome 👏🏻
The whole thing about learning how to do a certain video style by watching other videos was very interesting to hear about. I'm still quite surprised myself at how effective it really is! I do also often get asked what equipment I have and, quite frankly, I've lost count of how many times I've reiterated that it's not the equipment that matters, moreso it's how you use it! Very interesting to hear about this from the points of view of others!
The 'ordinary' stuff you do; railways, stations, trains, 2017 (to which I came late but absolutely LOVED) and ALL the rest is, on the whole, pretty bloody good. But what takes your content to the next level (if you don't mind my saying), is that you're prepared to share who YOU are. And that's a REAL privilege (even at a distance). Keep doing what you do and know that it entertains, amuses, interests and HELPS an awful lot of people.
This was great. Really good, interesting insight, and Ian's easy manner and skill in questioning brought an extra dimension to Geoff that is usually not on show.
Ian interviewing Geoff. What a fantastic idea. Sat here and watched in one sitting. Could emerged sitting in a pub with a pint in my hand just chatting with you both.
Geoff, Your videos rekindled childhood memories going places on the train around Ireland. Back then it was about the destination but now it's more about the journey. Thank you for being you, keep up the excellent work!
Thanks Geoff, I look forward to more chats like this. My dad used to take us train watching just for fun on a Saturday morning when I was a child, I see his enthusiasm for all things railway related in you. Keep up the good work.
Love your stuff Geoff. Started watching with the All The Stations videos and, despite not having a massive want to learn about trains and travel on the rail, I just got absorbed by your personality and your enthusiasm. There's something neat about watching someone talk about what they are passionate about and you've got that in spades. I've now learned a lot more about a subject I'd never have known about thanks to your videos. Always enjoy your content and keep at it chap :)
Always enjoy you enthusiasm. A lot of the old Railway Videos we grew up with were good. Fullnof facts. But dry.. you put so much of yourself in and your humour. Cheers me right up.
This was a complete joy to watch. I watch lots of RUclips and it’s safe to say this is my favourite video I’ve seen this year. Ian’s style of questioning was relaxed but brought the best out of you Geoff and I thought that you were fascinating and honest in equal measure. It’s great to learn more about the craft that is your video making. I hope that the future holds more good days than bad, all power to both of you for this hour of fabulous entertainment.
have tae admit. i keep watching Geoff and friends after all these years because i like the way Geoff holds himself on film, the way he makes his vids. you can get some other random person and get them to say the exact same thing, do the exact same shots etc but it just wont be the same vibe, if you can understand what am getting at. great content, keep it up my dude!
Thank you Geoff for being willing to open up with a candid conversation and update about your life, and importantly why you enjoy trains and youtube. You are an inspiration and a treasure.
your videos have a great value in educating and sharing network rail. especially new trains entering service. also in showing great locations for unique places to visit. no one (including you, Geoff) should doubt the value of your art in video making and entertaining and educating audiences. keep up the good work. someday i will learn from your work and add cut away shots in my videos, and other video editing trick you do. it was also great having Ian interview you, so joyfully, absolutely brilliant.

Just perfect. Location perfect to just sit and have a really wholesome conversation. Ian and Geoff work so well together. Surely there is a podcast or youtube series they could put together as a regular thing. Brilliant as always
What a brilliant episode! I did wonder if it might be a bit long but I could have kept listening to you two fabulous people chat for much, much longer! I learned a lot about you both, the BBC and the film making business. Even though some of the questions were prepared the whole interview/discussion felt totally natural and organic. I absolutely loved it, thanks very much to you both!🤗
