Ae Watan Mere Watan Movie Review by Sucharita Tyagi - Watching this film was an emotional experience. Zara bhi critical nazariye se agar aapne desh mein media ke halaat dekheien hain aajkal, toh yeh film bas yehi keh rahi hai ki jitni cheezein badal gayi hai, utni hi they remain the same. Kyun duniya ki harr regime sabse pehle mass communications ke mediums ko control karti hain, chaahe 1930s Germany ko, angrez adheen bharat ho, yaa aaj chaaro taraf phaila propaganda, coming to you from the news, from movies. When Usha tries to talk to her pro-government father about her dissatisfactions, jawaab aata hai “toh phir kaun chalaayega yeh desh?”, a refrain you STILL here anytime an election is around the corner. You hear pro-system people in the movie refer to movements of resistance to as “so called”, you see kaise legally dissenters ko jail kiya jaata hai, matbhed karne ke koi avenues khule nahi chore jaate, aur anonymous hokar ki khulle vichaar present karne ka option bachta hai. 80 saal pehli ki baatein lagti hain current agar, toh shayad film ki mansha wahee hai.
Mansha aur execution mein lekin, unfortunate gap hai kaafi bada, and the film, despite its intensions of perhaps reminding the Indian populace that intellectualism is good and debate is important, gets caught between its over-the-top staging, and bad performances.

By the way, there's a book called, "Congress Radio: Usha Mehta And The Under: Usha Mehta and the Underground Radio Station of 1942" by Usha Thakkar that I think the makers and the writers could've done with reading, for detailed research and nuance, which to my mind the movie lacked completely. A great read that tells the extraordinary story of Usha Mehta, the voice of resistance.

These x generation products of nepotism continue to be shoved in our faces. Eventually we will accept this and celebrate even their slightest improvement. Which SAK has not even mustered like Ananya and Janhvi. Then self made common person origin actors like Tripti are criticised for their choices in big banner than spotlighted a very accomplished resume. And similarly an actress as talented as Mrunal is ignored in Bollywood. Look at her recognition and love in Telegu cinema.

Nowadays most of the biopics are not researched properly and focus mainly on the star power of the actor. If you take the other biopics like milka singh, mary kom....despite their issues, the research was done very well. Even the Telugu movie, mahanati, it was done so beautifully. The actor and the actress were not Telugu industry still they were chosen to play the role as the director believed in his vision and knew that the movies is bigger than any actor. Seeing the trailer itself I knew that sara was not ideal for the role.

It's incredibly disheartening to witness the missed opportunity surrounding the portrayal of someone as significant as Usha Mehta.
Her story deserves to be shared and understood, yet the decision to cast a mediocre actor like Sara raises doubts about the
sincerity of the storytelling. Why not conduct thorough auditions to find an actor who can truly embody the nuances of such a
complex character on screen? The makers' choice seems to disregard the audience's intelligence, delivering a narrative with
subpar acting and a lackluster storyline.

If Sara knew she wanted to get into movies... instead of doing an history honours at Columbia maybe an acting degree would have been a better choice. Especially since everyone is not born with talent, and sadly she can't act to save her life. Common sense is not so common

I like the idea of Sara Ali Khan in Period Dramas. Also, depicting history in our great nation will never be an easy task. (Not a comment on the show)

I appreciate your review, although I haven't had the chance to watch it yet. It seems Sara Ali Khan could benefit from further developing her acting skills, particularly for serious and emotional roles. It's interesting to note that she seems to excel under certain directors, as seen in "Atrangi Re" and "Kedarnath." While she possesses potential and passion, there's room for growth to transcend from being merely a glamorous heroine to a compelling actor.
