- What do we need to maintain on the 8-Series to keep it looking and driving as new? Here are a few jobs that have to be done to keep it in as good condition as possible.
Although I am driving an 840ci, the same (in most cases) is relevant for the 850i, 850ci and 850csi. These points are also very relevant for the other big, old BMW's like the E32 7-Series, the E38 7-Series and the E39 5-Series which uses the same drivetrain.

I would also mention to check rain barrier seal inside each door underneath trim panels. If somebody earlier repaired stuff inside like window motor or door lock there’s a chance the vapor seal was not resealed properly. Water in cabin guaranteed after rain.

I have to say, you have provided many very valuable tips in this video. I do my best to keep my 850i in top shape. However, I realized I have missed a few items after watching this video. I've followed much of your advice on maintaining the M62 and it has helped me a lot in keeping up with my 2003 E39 540i MSport. With all the care I have put into it, it truly looks and drives like new! Please never stop making these videos!

1,000,000 !! Congratulations Timm and well deserved. Greatly appreciate your enthusiasm and knowledge as it helps me to keep my 650i Coupe and my 540iT (similar mechanicals to your 850) on the road. Most of these cars would have been scrapped if it wasn’t for people like you. It also helps keep down carbon emissions by reducing the carbon produced as a result of manufacturing new replacement cars/EVs. (Eg. I estimated the carbon emitted by my 540i running on LPG over the next 8 years is about the same as emitted by building a new EV and charging it from the grid. ) keep it, all the best. Martin 👍

Looking into buying an E31.
Was wondering what's your idea regarding the value of these platforms going forward? I have noticed they haven't really appreciated the way other BMW platforms have. For example the E39 M5 or e46 M3,which are both newer platforms.
And of course I'm asking only about standard 840ci and 850i , not the CSI.

Hello Alecx, the prices fluctuate wildly, but I don't think they show any sign of rocketing any time soon. People are asking high prices but they don't sell - unless it's a csi. Having said that, choosing the right car is the trick - more here: ruclips.net/video/R-tB0mRf3fM/видео.html
Great video, very informative! I really like the color of the car. Was mora metallic exclusive for the 8 and 7 series in the UK? I haven't seen any left hand drive E31s and E38s in that color.
Thanks Georgi! There is at least one LHD Mora Metallic E31 in the US as I have seen pictures of it, but it is a rare colour - however, I have seen the same colour combination as mine on a Z3
Tim... great website and all the tips are GREATLY appreciated. I recently had a weird event on my 1991 E31 V12... The fuel gauge shows full... yes I had just filled up... after about 20 miles of driving the gauge still showed FULL.. but being a rather suspicious person I looked at the 'Range' display on the centre consul to find that as I was driving along the range figures were actually INCREASING in mileage range!!... What is going on my friend!? Any advice? Please and Thank you ... Eric
There are two fuel-level sensors on the E31 - wired in series and a failure of either will cause this problem. An increasing range shows that the fuel level sensors are not reporting any reduction in fuel level. I would leave it a while and see if the fuel level does start reporting as reducing as that would give and indication of where the problem is

Hi Timm, thanks for the website which I’m forever visiting for all manner of info about the e31. It’s helped me a lot to understand my 97 840Ci. Unfortunately I haven’t looked after it as well as you do yours. But I try. I recently had to replace the back exhaust system as the left side box had rusted off the pipe work and left hanging loose. The boys at Fast Lane styling in Romford did a tremendous job. My priority now is to replace the alloys which have become extremely porous and unrefurbishable.they’re exactly what you have on yours and I’d prefer 18s. Would you be able to point me in the right direction for these and are 18s the best fit to bring out the majesty of the 31? Many thanks and sorry for rumbling on. Frank.

wish id found your videos before buying my E31, but at least I now know what requires urgent attention and what can wait. I won't bore you with the long version of current issue but it resulted in me changing injectors when in fact the cat was failing. now have inpatient reporting lamdaintergrator at -32 adaption value -18 multiplier is at 0 . investigation of new injectors flow rate 205 g where I believe originals 150cc (CC & g the same)so back to original injectors and then time for a cup of tea?
that's INPA not inpatient
Hello David, I'm not a fan of aftermarket injectors, you are never sure what you are going to get! Yes, stick the old ones back in, reset adaptations and see what happens.
Can you tell me the names of the UV polishes that you use for your E31
Sure Alan, Zaino 2 and Zaino 6 - I prefer Zaino 8 but you just can't get it these days!
