Since Dudley Tunnel and the railway that once ran through it suffered it's fate and closure in 1993, it has remained abandoned and unused, left to nature and the elements.
Since our visit in September 2020 a lot has changed. Refurbishment and renewal is now the future for this former railway route.
Join us as we take a look inside the full length of Dudley Tunnel.
We take an in depth look at what future this site now holds. Redevelopment of the former station site for a test centre facility alongside a brand new test track heading off towards the tunnel.

Looking forward to seeing the VLR trams testing along here. Good to see a tunnel preserved rather than falling to bits. And that curve looks incredible.

Brilliant! loved the flashbacks to yesteryear Kudos to Dudley Council for utilising the trackbed and tunnels. Eat you heart out Nottm City Council for your forefather's shortsightedness by demolishing and building over the GCR through the City and the once magnificent Victoria Station. The NET could have used that routing so successfully.

Another fascinating video. I did actually travel through Dudley tunnel when it was open, in the 60s. So glad to see so much is now coming back into use - which is a great way of sticking two fingers up to Marples and Beeching! Well done, Ant!

Hello Ant - grettings from Poland
That was a fantastic video. The old photographs showed what the site looked liked in days gone by. It put into prospective, how despite all the buildings of Dudley Station being demolished, the trackbed and tunnel have been preserved and upgraded into a test area for VLR trams and locomotives.
Your camera work, drone footage and commentary? Exceptional! Thanks again old friend for taking me along with you.
Stay safe and regards to Amy please. See you again soon.

Brilliant piece of history that has not been allowed to go to rack and ruin, the tunnel looks in good nick too with a nice bit of rail. Glad you spotted the old signal box foundations, great to see. That strange guy that keeps turning up does some fantastic videos too!!!

It's great as other people have commented seeing this old infrastructure be reused again.
But ticket prices on public transport need to be more affordable to the masses.
At the moment they are not. I have seen on numerous occasions at off peak times trains running virtually empty.
If it did happen maybe we would see more disused railways reopened.
Ps yet again another cracking video.

That bit of rail near the end - The only other bit of rail of that type and formation I've seen before was at Starcross, Devon, where Brunel's vacuum driven pumping station was, when it was a museum. (About 33 or so years ago). ; -)

    Hi Ant , Great video’s !
I’ve been listing and working my way through all your videos for the last 6 months. I try and do lost railway walks myself (Photographed only) when I get time. One thing that intrigued me about the 2022 Dudley tunnel video was the Class 52 Western standing at Blowers Green station !
Well out of this Loco’s area, I’ve tried to search Google to see what Western it was and how it came to be there ? Any 💡 ideas ?
    Thanks Stuart 👍🏻

Hopefully this will re-ignite Dudley Town itself to which had one of the best shopping experiences in Years gone bye.
The station Hotel should be re-opened for Ghost Tours like they have in Dudley castle.
Why not have market stalls at the station itself selling Fresh produce from the Farms at the back of Russel's Hall.
There is so much potential still left in the Town but I think only if they re-establish older shops and stores.
We had Woolworths, Beatties, WH Smith, CO-OP , Durrans Video , Comptashia, Cooks, Top Shop to name but a few.
I did ask Andy street and the Dudley Council if they were going to build a Bike lane next to the new Tram but Street never replied and it looks like they are not going to which is such a missed opportunity and shame.
Dudley has so much History including the Brilliant Black Country Museum and the wrens nest nature reserve.
I found out recently that there used to be a Train from Wolverhampton to Bridge North and also Stourport.
Wouldn't it be fantastic if they could have done something with this as well.
Getting to these destinations like Bewdley is not easy.
You have to basically get to Stourbridge or Wolvo itself and get a myriad of buses and trains.
Dudley council should invest in a Day bus it only has to be every Hour from the new Bus station so Familys could have a cheap day out in Bewdley , Bridgenorth and Iron Bridge.
    Thanks for the video mate
Really enjoyed it and the Music which is brilliant.

I walked through the staple hill tunnel when it was derelict and full of rubble. I slept in a refuge and walked out the next day to Bristol. I love tunnels!. The history has to ne felt, do you know what I mean? What kind of loco could handle that sharp bend? An 0-4-0 shun
ter & it would have to go real slow with wagons in tow.

Increasingly we're seeing track axed by Dr Beeching reinstated at enormous cost. How short-sighted were the rail policies of the 50s and 60s. And the Victorians would turn in their graves at the sight of that new monstrosity masquerading as a Centre of Excellence or whatever they call it. Nevertheless, it's new railway, which is to be applauded.
