What makes this version unique and better to me is of his Cossack/Transylvanian look, which I think fits better for somebody who lives in Carpathian Mountains, rather than a guy in a black suit if he already lived in an urban area.
He really is fantastic at every aspect of acting, he has physical manipulation of his body and facial features and has the ability to disappear into that character with his line delivery/voice. Modern day A-list Lon Cheney.

Bill killed this role. The voice is everything lol. For me it’s oddly pleasant, the slow pace and careful execution of his lines. He literally embodied this character. I wish him the best in his career frfr.
Everyone’s talking about the costume design and the acting but I think the writing and dialogue in this movie is amazing so inspirational gave me goosebumps when I heard it the first time❤

I think one of the creepiest aspects of the original is you never hear him speak. Something terrifying in the silence. Along with the way he moves, like a spider, not a panther or human predator. Even the still photos are insanely unsettling. I understand bringing something new and original and being true to the novel but i guess no one will ever come close to the uncanniness of the original. The look, the moves......the silence.
I agree. Don't get me wrong, I love Skarsgard, Dafoe, and Kinski's portrayals of the character. But something about Max Schreck just chills me to the bone. Every time he walks into a scene you're like, "GAAAH! What am I looking at?!"

Bill Skarsgard is such a phenomenal actor! He is still underrated between the casual moviegoers becuz he's constantly in makeup and transforming his voice. Besides The Barbarian, Deadpool 2, and the beginning of Crow, I never seen him without makeup
I just watched him in Boy Kills World. He's really good in that too. He doesn't speak in the movie but you hear what he's thinking. It was way funnier than I thought it would be.
The thing is this old school instead of Jump Scares and humor which dumb down true Horror. It's all about Suspense with Shadows Bone chilling voice and your dealing with a True Beast that is Evil not being Dumbed down. Can't wait to see it.

I saw the movie on Christmas Day and it was great. The look of Orlok, the tone of his skin, the hands, the voice, the little touches like the inhale, even the mustache just simply work. It's been many a year since a vampire movie was made in which the vampire is actually scary and creepy. It's also much more in line with the genuine myths of vampires places like Romania. In those myths, vampires aren't running around dressed as aristocratic gentlemen trying to blend in; while there's always something of a sexual component, vampires aren't charming seducers who look like supermodels.
When I heard that the look of Orlock would be changed, with a mustache, I was expecting to be disappointed. Having watched this movie, I'm no longer disappointed. This is an excellent Dracula adaptation.

Mark my words. During the holidays, people rested, well fed, chill, tuning out life, people like this. In few weeks or months, you'll hear at least some people finding this OTT or unintentionally funny. It's kinda just on the balance of being either amazingly brilliant, or being horribly cheesy, ham fisted and overdone, and it depends on your current mood how you see this. It's definitely a very memorable performance. I think if an older actor played Orlok and the diction was a bit less IDK firm in those rs and a bit deeper/older, it's absolutely perfect.

I watched the film yesterday, dubbed in italian and they made a really good job. Orlok's voice is pretty the same.
The german version ist also very good and sounds almost similar.
