Comic book writers get paid for their creations, but only a paltry sum. Unless their creations' name is the title character, they only receive a couple thousand, which is ridiculous considering how much money is spent on these movies.
Even with title characters, some of them are not getting properly compensated. I feel it’s degrading the overall product at the big two. Thanks for watching!
@@Nightwingstan-n7r Sad but true. I'm glad you mentioned Peter David-the man has created some my favorite stories and I think it's ashame he doesn't have the money he needs to survive. Anyway, thank you for covering this topic-it means alot.
Considering Donny literally talked well on the movie, about how it will do justice to Knull (sure lol), I'd say he not only already got paid, he got it really good. He basically sold himself out, so I wouldn't say his credibility means something at this point.
I personally don't see the problem. Every creator you cited in the video was paid at the time when their comic books came out. They also signed contracts allowing Marvel Studios and Disney to use those characters however they wished. You *should* be arguing that creators need to take a harder stance during the negotiation stage before a single word was written for one of their books so that these people aren't sticking their open palms out 20 years later. Marvel will negotiate with the writers that have the merit. Donny Cates probably could've gotten away with demanding a check for them using Knull in a movie back when they were negotiating King in Black. We really need to approach this discouse a different way because if the carpenter that built your house knocked on your door today and said "I noticed you're making money in the room i built, imma need a lil restitution" you'd tell him to go fuck himself and get off your property.
That is fair. I did mention Jen Bartel’s recent issues and how she shared it’s hard for people to negotiate from a point of weakness. I try to convey that, yes, a deal was signed but the fact these companies do not properly compensate even their best creators is exactly why the product has suffered over the last few years.
You’re definitely right, but these aren’t fair sit downs for most. To these creators, at time of conception, that’s like us telling em to negotiate a better deal with a giant before you’ve gotten big enough not to be squished. 🤷♂️ It’s just a pickle of a situation.
This is great and informative comic book content.
Thank you! 🙏🏼

Baseless accusations

This feels like victim blaming to me.
