The Miracle of Flight. Ever since the dawn of age, man has gazed upon the skies and wondered... ...how could I pull of a vertical takeoff with an airplane?
i saw your landing without any movement of your wheels in a short and now i witnessed the headwind indicated stol starting of your very beautiful and good sounding bplane. just amazing, subbed
Had an experience once on Kvichak Bay where I was having problems untying the plane, the wind picked me up as I held the strap and the plane nearly flipped. I ran to the other side and quickly untied it and jumped head-first into the back seat; my legs still sticking out as we went airborne. The tire tracks indicated we traveled 3 to 4 feet before being airborne. Later in the flight that day we flew backward into the headwind!
This is incredible. So what makes this possible? Surface area to weight ratio? Are they using stiffer/stronger materials to build this incredible airplane? Perhaps carbon fiber and kevlar? What is the skin made of? The frame?
Lightwieght Frame, and a wind heading towards the plane; wings dont care if the plane moves or not, so long as wind gets under the wings, it generate lift.

Everyone should have one Piper club on their houses!. Easily you can evade the traffic with this!. Just imagine if you want to eat something out. Just take your Piper to your backyard, takeoff, enjoy the view of your town, and land on the MacDonald's parking. I want one.
It's said that planes are a bunch of compromises flying in close formation. Planes are often optimized for a specific mission. Many planes do many things well but no one thing amazingly. These Alaskan bush planes are optimized for STOL performance so that they can take off and land on small gravel bars and tight little valley meadows. They have all kinds of high lift devices; low wing loading, leading edge flaps, large trailing edge flaps, and they're light. The penalty they pay for this is high end speed. I'm guessing that unless they are customized with obscene amounts of horsepower that they'd be hard pressed to hit much over 80 mph.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Backcountry_Super_Cubs_Mackey_SQ2 < it says right here that their cruise-speed is 115mph (185 kmh)... In other words their max speed is even higher. Nothing hard or difficult about it to pass 80mph. Also the standard engines come with 180hp. But it does have a stall-speed of just 20mph (32 kmh)
It's mostly just wind speed. Any airplane can take off in an extremely short distance if the headwind is just a few knots lower than the wing's stall speed.
Not surprising Even takeoff backwards isn't a problem if the headwind is strong and the plane is light enough. Where can I purchase a plane with built-in headwind?! 😂😂
Air pressure under the wings of a plane generates lift. A heavy airplane, with no head wind, would need a long run to build enough pressure under the wings. This is a light aircraft under strong head wind conditions, so there's a lot of air pressure and little weight to lift.
That is most probably one of the most impressive takeoffs i have ever seen
Check out his landing too
Yep the landing is unbelievable!!
Landing is insane, it’s here: ruclips.net/video/7vP13XPMNfc/видео.html
I said Holy shtick that's insane immediately 😳!!!!!! Lol .... very very impressive indeed 👏 👍
You need to get out more.
just a strange looking helicopter
Great demonstration of how relative wind speed is needed to fly
I must go, my people need me.
I thought the exact thing!

The accuracy
If I would see that take off in a cartoon, I would smile under my nose at such a comic exaggeration.

What a headwind can do for your takeoff roll! His wife is standing there with the camera thinking “wait a minute........I hope he’s coming back!”

Love alaska, hope to live there soon too.
Been to kodiak and nome, outstanding country.
Aren't the mosquitoes really bothersome certain times of year?
I believe the mosquito is the Alaska state bird.
The best part is, from the style of bush plane, to the land features, i knew he was in Knik. used to fgo 4wheeling out there so much as a kid!

I knew it! I recognized that this video was taken in Alaska almost immediately! Love the home state’s mountains.

Could previous models of the Cub perform this same kind of takeoff and landing in the same wind speed?
You can see how the wings ripple, like fabric/plastic.
Power to weight ratio, also lift is generated by moving air, doesnt matter if the plane is moving relative to the ground or not.
Headwind
Any light aircraft can take off that short in 50mph winds. Love to see a comparison of him taking off on a calm day.
20-25 mph actually. 50 would probably be impossible.
I’d like to see you get punched in the face.
Holy headwind Batman!
don't you just love it when your plane defeats the point of a helicopter by having a shorter faster take off
Not really. Just because you didn't see the wind it is still there.

i did not come looking for this video , but i'm glad i saw it. lol
Happens when you are light AND have high enough wind speeds.
The most badass plane on earth
which plane is it?
That .. is crazy! WOW!
looked like a pretty long takeoff to me.... must have used at least 4 feet of runway
Mother nature really said: "don't worry, I got this."
Always fun to takeoff with a head wind sufficient to give IMMEDIATE LIFTOFF(!)...lol*
Thats magic

Nice. thanks for posting.

But like how far and fast can it go otherwise it doesn’t matter
So cool dude. Are you a Bush Pilot? What is the name of plane please!
This plane indeed does not take long to lift up
I always liked this invention better than the helicopter.
By the time the tail wheel reached the position the nose wheels were at at the start, it was off the ground.

What is that like a 20 foot take off? impressive.

it isn't STOL, it's VTOL at that point
Physics: wait, that's illegal.
how is that even possible? somebody, please explain the physics of this!
Know how a kite works? Pretty much like that...

Now think about how long your fuel will last bucking that headwind.
