Obrigado/obrigada ("thank you," Portuguese/Brasilian Portuguese)
Definitely a beer and bathroom song
Yep as a drummer I definitely prefer real orchestra bells than Simmons pads! Girls at RUSH concerts! YES!!!
Justin (IM NOT A FAN OF THE JAMOUT ON CLOSER TO THE HEART) Panariello 😝😝😝😜😜😜😮😮😮😁😁😁😂🤣
Rio
The fans come first to Rush, they always said our fans pay good money to come to our concerts and we are going to deliver. Geddy is saying thank you in Portuguese (Brazilians speak Portuguese). Happy Easter to you and family Justin.
Why do people love this song so much? OH YEAH-74/82 RULES!!
When Neil throws his drumstick in the air and then shows the kid it would have been funny if it would have landed in his mouth 😮😮😮😜😜😝😝😝
Obrigado is Portuguese (which is what they speak in Brazil) for "Thank You". I spent about a month in Lisbon for work once and that is one of the few things I can remember other than how to ask how for a receipt (I was on expenses). Portuguese shares some words with Spanish and is also considered one of the Romance languages that derived from Latin.
Never understood once Neil went to his marimba controller thingy why he didn't properly sample his tubular bells and have those be the sounds. It's no more or less "real" than having glockenspiel sounds loaded up - and the gloc sample he's using is dreadfully artificial anyway. Weird choice.
Obrigado is Portuguese for thank you. They speak Portuguese in Brazil.
obrigado = thank you in Portuguese
Justin, almost BUSTED..."BAM"!!!
The Japanese word you're thinking of is "arigato". In the 1500s (I think) the Portugese were trading and spreading Christianity, all over Asia, including Japan. It is thought that this Japanese word for "thank you" came from the Portugese "obrigado".
Brilliant. A classic. Love Alex's solo and the flavor you get with the octave-doubling effect. obrigado = thank you in Portuguese.
No extended solo this time. Aw, shucks.
All on form, perfect; but then I guess it would be. I know I'm a guitarist but Alex's solo spot on with better tone. Language lesson 🤣 obrigada, Portuguese for thanks, in spain where I live obliged.
Yeah, I wonder why they didn't jam on this one. They more than make up for that in Strangiato.
The "People's Chorus do Brasil" kind of kick their Scottish ESL competitors' asses, though the latter group were plenty impressive enough.
"Tons of girls here", nah Justin, those are drag queens
On their Kings album the next song after Closer to the Heart is Cinderella Man, they should've played it just for you Justin 😅
I think the jam out at the end of Closer to the Heart in the 80's and 90's was also used for Alex to get on the mic and make a joke or funny rant or something. He'd introduce the members of the band comically, incorrectly, and usually introduce himself as Fabio lol. But the live recordings, they take that out. So for like A Show of Hands, Different Stages, it's "just" a jam.
Lol I must be the only rush fan ever to not like this schmaltz song 😮😅 sorry Rush
Yeah, if you watch the “Boys in Rio” you see their excitement for this crowd and how hard they worked to give them the best show! They rehearsed this song after they already got there! You gotta think they hadn’t played this song in 6-7 years! They just wanted to give them everything they had waited for for years! Be well and God bless… from Texas!!
Classic Rush song. Not a lot of meat on the bone but enjoyable nonetheless.
I love the jam out.
I've mentioned seeing this DVD premiere in a movie theater back in 2003. At this point, Rush concerts in North America still had a well-deserved reputation for being sausage-fests : there was a lot of remarking on the drive home how there were a lot more girls in the audience than you'd see at a normal Rush concert.
Neil would later write how the band noticed that there were a lot more women at the shows starting in the mid 2000s, and they weren't the few wives/girlfriends who were tagging along and "not getting it".
Bam! :)
Geddy Lee announced yesterday that his autobiography , called "My Effin' Life" , will be released november 14. A must have for fans !
Before Tom Sawyer this was the song they had to play at every concerts, Neil got sick of it, me too :)
Short, some songs are best kept this way.
Rush was always there for the fans. Best touring band ever.
The thing that I have always loved about Rush is even though they did things their way they always gave their audiences the best possible experience every time they took the stage.
Just bringing it out for the one show, they probably didn’t need/want/ or have time to rehearse the usual “jam out”. The perfectionists they are.
Wow, what a treat. Loved this! Thanks JP.
Perfect! ❤❤❤
