I had an 1986 FZ750. Looks like the same colors as my 86' year model. Didn't know they had the same colors of paint on the 85' and 86' bikes. Loved that old bike. Roadraced mine in 1987. But the 87' FZR750 made mine obsolete. But it was a solid ride, just not a first place machine in 1987. Nice to see one again.
Omg the old girl.I have 3- 1985 Fz750's they have been sitting in the garage now for 8 year's.I feel bad for not even taking the cover's off just to look at them.Got motivated to pull out my snowmobeil today, seeing we have over a foot of snow here in southern Ontario Canada. When the nice weather comes I'm going to get all my bikes running and tuned up.I miss riding so much it's crazy. But unfortunatly I can no longer ride, due to a couple crazy high speed chases.Oooop's my bad lol Cheer's mate.
Completely agree, a mates 2T scooter sat for over a year - even after doing a tank flush, new plug, air filter and carburetor clean it wouldn't go. "Choked" it like in the vid and now its going! Thanks I never thought about doing that.
I will only ever buy a Yamaha motorcycle. My buddy bought a 1966 YA6 for 20 dollars from an older woman in town. It was left exposed to Northern Wisconsin winters and summers for well over a decade with no cover of any type (this is how it was noticed). When he tried kick starting it with the nasty old gas that was still in it, it fired on the fourth try. After a clean up that thing fires first kick every time. Runs excellent. Blew my mind.
I've owned two Honda's and two Yamaha's and love them both. All of them very reliable bikes. The Yamaha's always seemed to be easier to work on than the Honda's though. Yamaha just makes a flat out great bike.
should of seen my bike, left in a garage for 2 years. when I turned 17, my brother signed it over to me. needed a lot of tlc (in my opinion) Needs a new exhaust, got new indicators, needs a new fuel gage. and it needed a new battery.
That's true about America, it's all about the shops as in: "I have no clue how to repair anything, I'll just take it to the shop and pay 1000$+..." Thumbs up for doing the work by yourself in your yard!
Great video John, you are a proper dad and my daughter has just said to me 'that's exactly like you dad' :-) Best regards from the Harz Mountains Germany (6 bikes in the garage)
awww man, that was niceeee. one of my fav. videos for sure. because i am into motorcycles just to do my own repair. and i loved Yamaha since a child.Live to Ride, Ride to live.
I used to have an FZ750 a while back. Great bikes with the famous Genesis engine. Mine was a rat bike / winter hack which was great fun to ride and still quick.
Awesome?I love to see these great old bikes restored! I'm going to check out all your vids I'm sure I will learn a lot thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
@xenolard Hi I was completely chocking off any air so that any crud would be sucked into the combustion chamber. The airbox could never do that. It never fails to work on old bikes/cars tht have been stood for ages.
Depends on when it was made. Most bikes require you to set the choke, crank with no throttle, then lessen the choke as the rpms go up until the engine is warm. Back in the early 70's we didn't have vacuum carbeuretors, so opening the throttle a little while starting was beneficial. Not since the 70's though as far as I know.
Ists immer... Ich bin da auch son Sammler der gerne auch Motorräder wieder herrichtet :) Hab im Moment noch eine '86 CB 450 S in der Garage stehen an der ich ein bissle was machen muss :)
hey john great video in exact the same situation you are pick up an old fz750 genisis 1988 left under flimsy cover out a back garden for last 5 years gone threw everything changed oil fuel sparks fuel is pumping have spark just refuses to start wonder if you have any advice
to be honest I didn't really do anything to it following this video I just put it back in the shed but I intend to get it out and get it roadworthy for next season that would be 2017
Hi John, What were you doing with your hand over the carb intake? Just feeling for something or adding restriction which the airbox would have provided or something? :) Cool video - thanks for sharing
Hi John I have an american 1986 FZ700 that has been abandoned for over 14 years and Im planing to make it run again. Any suggestions where to get spare parts? Its been great to hear the sound of the Yamaha, great work and great video!!
I had a 1985 XJ700XN with 5 valves. It was super beautiful and a real performer. This one looks more expensive to restore than you could get for it finished. Not sure it was worth it.
I don't purchase bikes with a question of whether it will be worth more so it doesn't matter....I will only make it roadworthy anyhow...I believe bikes are to be ridden ...and ridden hard
Goes straight to the starting issue. This is helpful, although..... a little time spent with some kerosene or any kind of rust catalyst lubricant, like Blaster, gives me the peace of mind of knowing a dry piston isn't scuffing things up and galling the rings, etc.
The oil was checked before any attempt at turning the engine was made and copious amounts of proprietary lubricant in spray form was used and the engine was turned over with the ignition off to circulate some oil
Well, you certainly covered all the bases. There are some videos about reviving old vehicles on the Tube where they start the thing up after jolting the internals free. There are some that were fine with it not being frozen who start it with dry pistons and cylinders. Do you know of a way to force some oil into the crank and rod-end bearings? With cars it can be easy, but I haven't seen this done with bikes.
Hi John. This takes me waaaaay back. Could it possibly be an actual Eddie Lawson? It'd be nice to find such a wonderful piece of history, no matter what condition it's in. Though nowhere near as impressive, I bought a GPX 750 once, from inside a chicken coup. It looked in as good a condition, but turned out really well.
hi Manuel. there are a number of forums on Facebook like the Yamaha FZ750 Owners club and the Proboards forum where like minded people are always on the other end of a mouse to help and advise and mostly for free! regards, John
hey john i have a 1986 fz600 pure sport no fuel tank no pipes coming from carbs could help please ,ive tried you tube for where to put the fuel been looking at ure video ,looks like it is going in pipe in front of carbs ,any help u could give would be awsome many thanks and awsome vid rob:)
Hey man i'm buying a 1984 GPZ 900R with 60k miles. But the trouble is it also stood still for 5 years, but in a garage. Do i need to put a bit of WD40 or a bit of oil in each cylinder so it lubricates the piston rings that were dried up? I do not know how much money will this 5 year inactivity cost me... I've heard that in some cases people needed to do a whole engine rebuild
if it has been in a dry garage it should fire up pretty readily I would turn the engine over a few time with the kill switch off or the plugs out. I wouldn't put WD 40 down the barrels as it will wash away any proper oil that is there. Stick a bit of oil down the plug holes let is soak a while and turn the engine over without plugs in for a moment or two. then get the plugs in and fire it up.....it will smoke like a trooper!
@canuck679 Hi Cannuck, one of the members had an FZ which when he sold it had over 120,000 MILES on the clock (not kilometres) and I agree wholeheartedly on the point of regular servicing especially Oils. It will be worth £15,000 to me at least...... regards, John O'Hanlon - FZ 750 Owners Club
the engine is destroyed....some pistons are'n working..i say that engine must be opened up and the valves cleared and the carbnurators too...nice bike..
Id go the way on that one, new rubber,,plug wires etc. All the shabby bits replaced with all the new stock parts I could find .New instuments and switchs add more value then they cost
ok John, I have a 1994 Honda CBR 600 F2 and it had been sitting up for a couple of years with bad gas.... I've cleaned the carbs, got all the bad gas out, and put new electrical in it. it will start for a second or two but it will die a few seconds afterward any suggestions?
+Renzeth Bulawan Exactly why would the previous owner leave it in the garden? this is a wonderful classic that has a lot of history to it and it saddens me most people now days don't give a damn about this machine only because its known as an old bike.
Thanks for your comment, I am only a poor working class guy trying his best for his family the same as you probably are. If you want to ''friend'' me on facebook punch in john roger ohanlon.
there is nothing more pleasing that breathing life into a old engine and hearing it roar again!
Dads mucking about with bikes in the back garden. You gotta love it :-)
what a great dad
ahh thanks mate
I didn't know you could grow motorcycles in the garden !
it had been in the garden left languishing among the vegetables..
LOL u need a greasy thumb 😊😉
You can buy seeds at Yamaha.com...

Not a die hard Yamaha guy but I really love these old bikes and its great to see this piece of history.

That sounded nice when it started up.... good video, thanks
Congrats on getting the old girl running. Best of luck during the restoration!

similar engine build as fz250, I always love the sound of engine when it starts to turn over after years of neglect. makes your heart jump!
should of seen my bike, left in a garage for 2 years. when I turned 17, my brother signed it over to me. needed a lot of tlc (in my opinion) Needs a new exhaust, got new indicators, needs a new fuel gage. and it needed a new battery.
Yamahas are fine machines. Really built to stand the test of time!
I had it, great bike, greater engine, fantastic torque.
thanx for your vids

Beautiful machine! Glad to see it in your hands.
awww man, that was niceeee. one of my fav. videos for sure. because i am into motorcycles just to do my own repair. and i loved Yamaha since a child.Live to Ride, Ride to live.
This tank from an F Zed R 400 pumps the petrol up to the carburettors.
Love it!!!
I used to have an FZ750 a while back. Great bikes with the famous Genesis engine. Mine was a rat bike / winter hack which was great fun to ride and still quick.
Condition doesn't matter this is good stuff!
amazing how bikes can sit so long n still sound good once started
I bet the neighbors just love this guy. :)
they always are friendly but most move away after a couple of years
when you trying to start a xj600 1992 yamaha it's been siting for a year how much gas have to go in the carberator for it to start
Jailyn White struggling with that one.....where did you spot that?
Its a yamaha, of course its gonna start
suzuki would have been too far gone
Edward Miller yep
sounds like a beast. also, i think that's the best ending to a video i think iv ever seen
She lives another day cheers
Nothing more amazing the bike starting after years or dust collecting.
my 85 fz750 started first time after 4 years standing ....still got it
Awesome?I love to see these great old bikes restored! I'm going to check out all your vids I'm sure I will learn a lot thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!
Its not old at all... 1985 was here recently. Oh wait, Im so old?
Good job guys! Its finally runs at last!
AWESOME DISCOVER! Great job!
Amazing technology, but the Achilles heel part is the puny tire contact patches.

Awesome vid, your smart come work on my k6 GsxR lol keeps shutting down, had stator and rectifer replaced bike keeps sucking down batteries

These Aussies are good mechanics. At least they can't put the wheel on the wrong side with a motorcycle :)
You have any videos of its current condition after restoration? Keep us updated brotha
to be honest I didn't really do anything to it following this video I just put it back in the shed but I intend to get it out and get it roadworthy for next season that would be 2017
Hi John, What were you doing with your hand over the carb intake? Just feeling for something or adding restriction which the airbox would have provided or something? :) Cool video - thanks for sharing

Good restoration project. Powder the frame, polish the bits and pieces, brass brush the hardware.
@canuck679 that is why it is important to keep the bike original

It will be worth £15,000 to me at least......

John O'Hanlon - FZ 750 Owners Club
I would expect this rare model to be quite sought after, especially when restored to it's former glory.
Proper dad tutorial this - Just gonna show you this petrol being pumped - Oh got a bit excited, went on the bike. Let's start it.

Why Would Someone Left it in the garden? in Auction maybe this could go expensive.
+Renzeth Bulawan Exactly why would the previous owner leave it in the garden? this is a wonderful classic that has a lot of history to it and it saddens me most people now days don't give a damn about this machine only because its known as an old bike.
I just noticed that Market for Classic Sport Bikes is Incredibly low. except if its an classic indian or harley.
