i took a break from social media for a couple days and came back today and listened to a 40 minute podcast that had 4 separate unskippable ads and 4 creator sponsored breaks. thats one ad per 5 minutes. it was so debilitating. like having a conversation be interrupted by a salesperson that we couldnt convince to leave for more than a few minutes.
I had no idea Pinterest was at risk of getting banned. It’s sad to see platforms decline in their sense of individuality and user driven content in favor of becoming marketplace, ad infested, bot infested ai slop wasteland😭 Instagram used to be such a fun place and over the years it’s just gotten bad. It lost what made it good. I hate how it’s not even just instagram though
@@bleachedout805 But for that there needs to be actual cyber security and more specific laws around that… Otherwise it would be incredibly easy to stalk in every aspect of someone’s life even without knowing much about hacking.
@bleachedout805 I wouldn't say the lack of anonymity would make anything better; in fact, it'd make things worse. Especially with AI possibly replicating anything human. No one online needs to know every single facet of one's life, not even their face and name.
As a UX designer, it's really hard. Most of us have had to become product designers, meaning that our work has more of a business lens than a user one. We have to justify our work against how it will bring in pageviews or revenue. Higherups in the business care more about value metrics than they do about the end user
Thanks for talking about this largely ignored issue! It’s been bothering me for years now… That’s why people like JJJacksfilms or MiiMii (german youtuber who intensively reaserched and found out and continues to find out serious stuff about slop youtubers after one and his crew stole his SD card) are so important. We need more RUclipsrs and people in general like them… Plus as an idea; RUclips (and Co) should hire people to look at channels/pages which they spend more than a certain sum of money per month on to check for scammers and possible child endagerment (etc), because how tf is *that* so widespead as well
My online experience started with and was shaped by smaller communities on forums so even if I have been on different socials for over a decade now I have never really experienced that "community" aspect. To me, the artist communities I feel the strongest bond with are small and scattered across Discord servers and local communities. And on occasion streams as well. Social media always feels very detached but it can be a great way to find smaller communities or more people to join your community etc. Maybe for this reason I don't lament the state of social media too much because it's a lot like just another tool for me. The most important things to me aren't moved by changes in social media. I've been working on building an email newsletter for this purpose because I have been told by my followers that they would greatly appreciate it.
Hmm that's a good one. I think I experienced fellowship when forums used to be a thing, google hangouts and also deviantart. Overtime that changed to Discord, but even Discord now I haven't found a community that I feel I belong "too". Now I mainly search for local communities. And othertimes stay in touch via Instagram. Honestly I still don't get TikTok. As much as you mentioned a sense of community there. Maybe I am just slowly becoming a boomer. But yeah. As for AI it is enticing me to start getting back to traditional painting. As that perhaps will be the only way to preserve artistic identity in an age where AI can just poop something out in seconds.
Yeah It definitely seems more fit for the younger artists but there’s plenty to enjoy there for everyone imo. Ai encouraged me to do more traditional work too. And you are so right about the forums! Those were good times…
Hello Josh I’m glad you stated something about Pinterest, I commented on one of your community posts about it and I love the background drawing tbh I could watch you draw for hours end (I have already done that before)
Nope. Nope nope nope. I know you're a working artist and you have to go where the crowd is, but there is a good reason for avoiding Chinese apps. People don't seem to understand (or care) about how business in China works, but its not just about data collection or malware, its about propping up an evil regime that is not subject to US law. Now, obviously the US-based platforms are terrible too and our government isn't great right now either, but at least there is a chance that the regulations we have in place can protect our artists better than China's ever will. That being said, I respect you and I understand why you're posting this.
@@Movel0 A lot of people and organizations seem to be moving to Bluesky, but I don't use it so I can't say whether or not it's good for artists. @mmh9929 No, their right. It's the LOVE of money specifically. Not money itself, not simply wanting to make a profit from what you make, but prioritizing profit at the expense of others.

As an artist myself there's no use trying to fight AI, we just have to accept the changing technological world we are in and keep up with the time. Great artists like Leonardo DaVinci and Vincent Von would be just as pissed to see what technology did to traditional art where digital artists ourselves, are creating art digitally on a eletronic screen with an artificial pen, digital paint, digital brushes, undo tool, duplicating. Selecting and deselecting, the list goes on. Those great traditional artists back then didnt have that luxury and would definitely discredit what digital artists are doing now as NOT ART, because they wouldn't accept the change in technology. It is the same thing now with AI. It's a change in technology and we just have to accept it, move on and try to make use of the new way of art in a technologically changing world. Huge shout out to Ergojosh BTW. Great artist!

I see your point, it really is dependent on the situation and people sometimes. I was somewhat joking about the cancelled bit 😅 I think for me It had a lot of mistakes I would normally not accept in my own work and was glad they caught it!
@@theanimelibarian7881is that a way to praise ai? The best thing as an artist is to learn, to improve, to expand your knowledge. It's great for the brain too. Social media has always sucked. The internet needs to lose anonymity if it wants to create meaningful content.
@@bleachedout805 But for that there needs to be actual cyber security and more specific laws around that… Otherwise it would be incredibly easy to stalk in every aspect of someone’s life even without knowing much about hacking.
Social Media always ends up spiraling into 'commercial' media, forceful advertising, data mining and falsified content. it's inevitable.
Nonono it’s not! I was saying Pinterest banned ME. They gave me my account back the second time though.

Chinese 'copyright laws' are totally different too... especially when it comes to Laws around IP.
Thanks for sharing your perspective! Its definitely a risk anyone using these apps should keep in mind.

Money can be used for many good things such as buying art from living artists. Love of money or money itself is not the issue.
