I don't believe the artist thought of it that way, but it really shows the freed slave as below Lincoln. And it also seems like he only gets his freedom as an act of mercy. But freedom is a right that's not to be given unless it was taken before. Lincoln is shown in this statue in a position of power he should not have had and that is needlessly glorified.
