  • Dave from My Own Devices screwed up and accidentally ordered the kit version of a Dynaco ST-70 tube amp. He wasn’t up for building it himself, so he sent it to me to do the job. It's all built, but there's one problem and when Dave finds out, he's gonna be pissed. So now I've gotta leave the country!

    A cat-induced accidental order, a trip to Russia under the guise of locating a replacement rectifier tube. This has all the ear-marks of a dime-store mystery novel. 😆

    Started using JJ vac valves made in Poland? In my Leak Stereo 20. Very happy with those.

      Thanks, Neil. I appreciate the concern. Things are well, but due to some changes in my life I’ve relocated to Turkey for a while. I plan to explain more at some later date, and to also continue with the videos. But it may be a while before I return to the states and can do so. Take care.

      Mercury vapor rectifiers are just as efficient if potentially more toxic.

    An American "visiting" Russia at this time (mid-Feb, 2022 for future readers) is probably not the best idea, Flux. We'd hate to see you tried as a spy and carted off to some gulag. I don't think they'd buy your "I'm just looking for tubes" story.

  • @robertm8518
    @robertm8518 2 года назад +3

    The original birthplace of Tung-Sol tubes was Newark NJ. Now it’s Russia…. Most all new tubes available today are from one parent US company called new sensor located in LI City NY.

    I have a solid state rectifier in mine. Does that diminish the sound quality of the amp?

    • @FluxCondenser
      @FluxCondenser  2 года назад +5

      No, if anything it’ll ensure that the amp is getting a good supply of DC. Something that challenges tube rectifiers.

    • @tonymckay6556

    Another option would be to get one of those flux capacitors from Antique Electronic Supply or another supplier & borrow Dr. Brown’s Delorean to go back to the late 1940s & hit “radio row” in Manhattan. You could leave the passport at home & never go through customs!
