War on Drugs is likely one of the absolute best indie rock bands to emerge from the American musical landscape in the past decade... They represent what is best about Rock, innovation, intelligence, political savvy, and strong musicianship... The courage to write from the heart and translate it all into beautiful music is abundant here... Europeans sometimes misjudge America with all of the Pop/media hype...its assumed that entertainers such as Taylor Swift are the leaders, when if fact, their following accounts for fractional segments of the total market. America is a vast and large country both geographically and domestically, it is one of the most diverse nations on earth. To assume that there is no place for a band as gifted as War on Drugs is a sad miscalculation... By any standard these guys shine, and its golden!!
right on! ditto! ditto! ditto! You said it all, love this band! And I'm not a Taylor Swift fan either. And I'm tired of ppl saying he's trying to sound like Dylan. He is what he is. As Jerry Seinfeld once said comically what do ppl mean when they say "it is what it is!" It is what it isn't?! Love this song and was great in concert at Radio City Music Hall!
They are a soft version of New Model Army.. love em...
America is not a country.
Are you the narrator?
I agree except for the giving you us americans more credit. Very very few people are in agreement with. I am a music snob tho, if you play Taylor Swift in front of me I'll judge you forever.
Every once in a while a very special band comes along. The war on drugs are one such band.
I understand why some people would dislike this band...I mean, America is more into a Taylor Swift kinda shit. I’m just glad I have taste.
Regina Ponce You're not the only one.
Regina Ponce SPIRIT :D, love this music althoug i'm not from America
+Regina Ponce Thanks for your synopsis on American music, where on earth do you obtain your information? Its incredibly wrong, you're too young to embarrass yourself so very badly... No we're not...TS sucks...Lest we never forget who founded Rock n' Roll...America the beautiful ...
+Regina Ponce I'm going to assume you like Taylor S. Personally, many of us Americans are into so many different genres that display our delicious taste in music, not all of us get lost in the mainstream industry but rather rear into our roots of rock and roll. I have more friends that have classy taste in music and barely any that will recognize a song on a pop radio station, just saying. :)
+Regina Ponce my sons would like to marry you :D
I just turned 70 and these guys rock! Keep on trucking!
Max Girouard They are probably the last real rock and roll band that will mean something apart from Radiohead
Frank Gerber Wow... Depressing and so untrue. The driving drum style that could easily be thought of almost like a dance beat keeps being recycled for ages now.... at least since Jesus Mary Chain and many others. It was an in style about 10 or less years ago. Max Girouard it is really cool to see you finding interest in new generations music, as I turned 35 I wonder when it is not my music anymore and glad that is does not have to happen.
Frank Gerber There will always be rock.
Max Girouard 53 here. These guys are really good. Bravo for using real horns and sax live. Lots of textures going on.
+Fred Garvin Exactely. I was thinking "what happens to that magic sound when they perform live?" Yep, still there :)

+alexeban Hint-hint- He's being sarcastic.
ozay killer set
The first time I heard 'Red Eyes' last year I fell in love with these guys
Just heard it yesterday and instantly hooked!
Lost in the Dream is about perseverance and love. They're channelling a higher force.
I was there in 2014, sun was going down. the nearby lake was like a mirror....
You lucky bastard!! 😂😎☺️
Lucky to have seen them live in California, but certainly not this beautiful setting ❤️ I want to see them again!!
Quit trying so hard.
I just turned 65 in June 2015, The "War on Drugs" reminds me of the past, the present, and possibly the future of Rock n' Roll...There are so many influences at play here its astonishing...to try and name them all would be daunting... Lets suffice to say we all recognize something akin to greatness in this group's sound and lyrical composites ...Let her rip...!!! Peace & Cheers...forever !!
Well said .
Well said my friend. ❤️
Dylan, Neil Young, Dire Straits, The Waterboys, Bruce Springsteen, Peter Gabriel.......... hope this helped, my father liked them all!
edit: with a touch of shoegaze
❤
I always was a fan of Bob Dylan so when I heard the War On Drugs, I immediately fell in love with this band not because he sounds like Dylan but because they have their own style of music. They are real singers not fake like the ones we hear now and gone the next day and make millions of $$$ with no talent what so ever. Awesome band!
Band of Horses - The National = War on Drugs
War on Drugs - The National = Band of Horses
Band of Horses + War on Drugs = Heaven on Earth
Any Band - The National = A Better Band
Any Band - The Decemberists = A Better Band
The National + The Decemberists = Hell on Earth
+david letterman Dire Straits + Blood on the Tracks = War on Drugs
+J andrewC LAughing my motherfucckin ass off.... Ya.... the lead singer has heard some Dee-lun (RUN FOR THE CHOPPA!!) for sure. Nice take.
+J andrewC this band was created out of a love of Dylan
+Ryan Lane ...oh of course. I was just picking up the fun mash ups.
+J andrewC --- I need to go back and test your formula. Thanks!
The synth at 28:40 sounds like a mixture of My Hometown and Dancing in the Dark
Its like The War on Drugs just get everything from Dire Straits to Dylan and Sprinsteen, mix it up and form something even more beautiful with it
There are hints of The Doors,Talking Heads Lloyd Cole brilliant fusion
Martin S i also think you can hear some influences of tom petty and also the waterboys;) great band!
midnightflyer71 yah totally! lets just say TWOD take everything good in the newer music history and make it their own haha :D
My feelings exactly.
Don't like this band then you should get a good nights sleep then get in your car and take a scenic drive. If you still don't love the band, the sound and what your mind will see and what your heart will feel then start over. How you ask, erase the clutter in your mind. Erase the hatred and needless fear, turn off the porn, and fake reality TV shows, find something that you want, that you really want. Not something that someone told you you need, but something you desire. Remember your dreams or dream, wait do not think about the person who told you it was bullshit or that you are just a dreamer, focus on your dream, focus on where you want to be and who you want to be and how you want to be remembered. Try the song again. Day two go out and do it. Take the first step, let the left leg follow and reciprocate until you succeed. When you fall down or come to a tough spot remember that evil actions are the tools of cowards. If you are strong and can fight than fight for the weak or for the needy. Through this you will find that your true strength is not found in the circumference of your guns but in the enormity of your heart. This is not only for those of you who do not like this band. Sorry for the rant but in times like these we gotta reach out to one another and speak. We need to stop alienating each other. We have to stop the gang mentality that we are growing into or holding onto. I dare you to embrace a white friend if you do not consider yourself apart of the white community and I dare whites to do the same with blacks and Hispanics, Asians, Latinos or whatever the heck you are. After 911 we all rallied together and we all said "We may be different but don't mess with us." We do not have to agree on everything and quite frankly it is impossible but we are giving to many passes for bad behavior over here. Pain and suffering does not start with a violent act and of coarse it does not stop it either, However, we all know where it does start, an arrogant act, selfish, rude, thieving, and bullying. All of these things plus more ignite a pain inside of individuals. All passages through the seven deadly sins, look them up. Listen we will never all be friends, we will never like each and everyone of us but I guarantee that if we try to do one thing in our lives we will positively influence and immediately change the world. If you are a parent then be one. If you have a child teach them to be a good person. If you are a parent then take that responsibility seriously. I dare to say it is better to be a bad parent than a no parent. And I don't mean an absolute no parent. If you walk the day a kid is born he would have been better off with another parent. He or she will find another parent. That is not it. What I mean is don't just lay there and do nothing. If you ARE there parent than do the job of parenting. They can be your friend later if you need one that badly. Remember friends come and go family is forever. So think twice about treating your child like a friend, buddy or pal. They need a leader. Children need a voice that know's how to say NO. And, if they do ask why take a breather and give them a good reason because when you think about it you actually do have a good reason. If you feel guilty it is because you know that you were doing the same sh t just a few years back yourself. Grow up. Be a parent and change the world. Want to argue about some of the terrible things in the world today or you could win the argument b4 it even starts with good parenting. I am very sorry I ranted for so long thank you and good night. by the way great band.
Troy Ferguson i had so much positive things to say about this but god dammit you left me speechless
Lol. Nice follow up.
Troy Ferguson Couldn't read it all. Got lost in translation. Start was good.
Troy Ferguson Couldn't read it all. Got lost in translation. Start was good.
Troy Ferguson This is the best comment that I have ever read on RUclips. Keep ranting! :)))))
Lost in the Dream was the best album of the whole decade.
awesome. listening to them play is like this weird realization that guitar rock is a fading art form. glad they're keeping it alive
SonOFloppyBoot Wørd!

This is my first time hearing about this band and I'm impressed! Just ordered their newest album from Amazon, and I want to get their others as well. Mesmerizing!
Hmmm. You at this clip and then went and ordered their album? And had to post about it? 🤨
Just a great band ...
No analysis ...

+Ladies and Gentleman . Rock is Not Dead and My faith in Music has been restored .Thank You TWOD !
So good! Thanks for the sharing;) So far, "In between the waves" is my favorite 2014 song.
This band needs to be listened to and enjoyed for just the sound of life that you want to live everyday. It doesn't bang you in the head but it opens up your mind - to thinking about the stories being told. His voice is amazing and soothing at the same time! Love it lots!
wow the soundengineer did a great job! clean record
Under the pressure, gave me chills, what a version, that sax with drums, building the tempo, friggin great.
Love how the drummer is waiting to just give'er with the tempo building
This song takes Me to bliss every time and I have forced Myself to listen to the last 3 minutes of the studio version cause that is the TEST of ones will for bliss. The ending is the sweet come down of mello and the parts before it are Fucking amazing!
I have been listening to this barely known Rock Star band for many years. Saw them on Austin City Limits. They are one of the besy and yes he sounds like Bob Dylan by coincidence. I consider myself a Rock Connoisseur after 50 yrs of intense music.
They rate with Pink Floyd, Led Zepplin, Dire Straits, Foriegnet and all the big boys! I'm 66 and going to see this band in Sept in NC. ALSO
WSP, SCI, LUKAS NELSON and anybody who plays outside withon 100 miles
listening to that very tune right now love the sax which doesn't come out so much in other recordings. love it great cycling beat.
Best band (in the view of this old biker) since Pink Floyd, & I've been rocking to them since 69. Come to Cork, Ireland soon guys..
My grandad told me that he was from Cork and he used travel all the way to Dublin to date my Nan, and I probably nodded approvingly being humble and just wanting to continue to listen to a natural storyteller, that;s how I feel with these guys playing a concert, the sound reverberating in my apartment, being on a journey with friends....
Finally a band that is really worth it and not so much commercial mediocrity that it's already disgusting!!!
1:30 Thinking about my job at Sterling, Cooper, Draper & Pryce
these guys fucking KILL
Ocean in Between the Waves is such a monster of a song, and this version is so sumptuous
fuckin best band on 2014
And 2017
For one, their music sends you in a mood way higher and detached than of this world's. A masterpiece, indeed. Greetings from an avid fan from the Philippines.
Best band to appear in 30 years
That's Radiohead.
But The War on Drugs are dope as well.
Just discovered this great band, and will forward this link around....
+Tim Hansen Me too, heard them at Cafe Racer in Seattle (on Pandora). Best shit I've heard in a while. Going to download them from Amazon now!
Wow. As good as every single song in this set was, Red Eyes is one of the best 'stand and deliver' live songs I've ever seen. Simply breathtaking. Saw them in Vancouver and it was life changing. I've been listening to LITD for two years straight.
Where have I been?! This band has been playing for 10 years and a friend
just now told me to check them out. I am absolutely stunned. The Best Kept Secret Festival 2014 performance is like a cross between Dire Straits, Bob Dylan & U2 ....
except these guys ARE ORIGINAL. Can't wait to see them jam live on the East Coast
when they return from overseas.
Me encantan. Buenísima banda
Para dejar un poco de lado estos momentos difíciles de la temática sanitaria. Qué mejor?
Bravo, c'est un vrai bonheur cette vidéo.
❤words can't describe the total happy hypnotic state of me watching and listening ❤🙏🎶💖💖💖💖💖
wouldt love to see them once live, this is so fucking great music.
Is dat zo Hein?
I don’t think I saw a single teenager in the audience. This is a band for people who appreciate real musicianship played by talented artists who don’t care to follow the shit record companies dish up these days
Fantastic Band!!! How exciting to hear!!! Phenomenal Sax!!! Wooooow
this is so great.
Honestly, i love too much their sound, It is a great band and I liked from the first time i heard them, they have amazing songs. ^^
thumb this up if you would like a version uploaded without sound and video issues.... the performance is superb though....
Wow, I'm all over this music....
I'm 72! They r the best!!!!!🎉
This is 2024 and they still rule😊
Son geniales
i am crying like little baby, its so emotional music... thx The War on Drugs
i/m 50+yrs this takes me back to my early years. So good that you younguns are getting into your dads music!!
Just seen them live in Newcastle. Great sound!
Tom McKAY I have tickets for Philly in a few weeks....should be good.
But isn't this todays music?
Michael Burke yes .of course it is!!!
Well than with all due respect this isn't our dads music. It may be influenced by some older music but it is new music by a young dude. These new guys deserve some props for what they are creating. I hope young cats that want to rock out don't get intimidated by this stigma and get out there and make some new good music.
I love this band! They are really great musicians!
I am just mind blown at this musical gift, and that I never heard of these guys until recently.
Never too late. Glad you found them
I love how we wanna frame of reference music by date and category - they're just great songs, great songs are timeless and for everyone.
The war on drugs: de beste muziek ontdekking van 2014.

Saw them at Boston Calling yesterday. Simply amazing talent.

Putting together a list of great YOUNG/NEW rock bands; roughly around for 1 - 6 years / 1 - 4 albums or so; these are just general guidelines, but meant to exclude bands like Arcade Fire and Kings of Leon who are terrific but a little too old for the list. Please let me know who you think should be added, thanks. I will argue with you if they aren't rock bands, great, or young/new. Don't tell me you just discovered an awesome new band called The Pixies. You're way too late. This is the list so far... (order is random)
+david letterman Future Island, Foals, and Foster the People... TWOD is my favorite band but ive seen the other three I just mentioned and all are excellent live acts and are not just studio artists. Foals can be a little rough live but they have progressed into a very good live act. Great list though, I cant think of one artist that I dont agree with and I have seen all of them live except The head and the heart but I plan on seeing them when they come to town!
+Andrew Gault --- Thanks for the names. I really like Future Islands and Foster the People, and I thought about putting them on the list, but they are pretty much 100% not rock music. They rely heavily on synthesizer and dance beats. I would still love to see them live and I do listen to them on Spofity. I will check out Foals. Thanks for the input, let me know if any other names come up.
+david letterman check out Rusty Maples. they remind me of a feeling when listening to Modest Mouse's older stuff. You have a great list. KEXP plays them all!
+david letterman Updated list includes The Districts.
+Newton White --- Great, thanks, will listen to Rusty Maples... best...
@Troy Ferguson. Well stated for sure and sweeeeet! I agree with you! I will add that No matter what people think about this band, they are factually, in the music and artistry world totally Fucking a breath of fresh air and anyone who says they "Are nothing special" should at least give props that the band kicks Ass to feeling and emotion at high levels. Free speech for all and I will challenge anyone who states that THE WAR ON DRUGS is "Nothing Special!" :-D
Esta banda tiene algo realmente genial!
Es verdad
En especial la tocada en este festival es increible...
Esta banda es buenísimo me encanta I love!!
Such a cool band. Great sound & so distinctive yet there are certain traces of Dylan, PF, the Boss, Bowie & even a hint of the Cure. I guess you can't go wrong borrowing a little from those legends huh ?
Great band. Haven't said this in a while but it makes me wanna be American.
I am dutch but you are right !
thanks, saw them live in London recently. Great gig! really enjoyed their songs from slave ambient too.
Yep, being American is great.
I saw them in Austin last month. As we waited for the opening band(Califone) Anthony Lemarca walked right pass me and no one noticed and then about 5 minutes later Charlie Hall walked right by me as well.
I wanted to high-five them but didn't. Favorite band, great concert and venue.
2014 deserves a much better video quality
I think someone filmed a livestream from/with his laptop...
Just discover that band, they are awesome.particularly the first song😁😁
Great sound and to die for musicianship.
Er..hipster dude at 6:03.You do not walk away from An Ocean In Between the Waves....Esp Adam's solo.
That is all.
I think he came back at 7:37! Is that him??
Drummer isn't playing most of what your'e hearing, 1:19 . Im assuming most of what your'e listening to is the band holding the notes from a pre recorded session, disappointing. Thats why we have QOTSA , U2 on another level.
I love this sound so energetic, so lucid and full of vitality, it is one of my favorite songs! never stop playing 🤟🏻🌃💫✨🎶💞🥂
They're such a special band :) Every instrument sounds splendid and Adam seems like such a genuine guy. Thank you for existing! I'll be so happy when they finally announce that they are bringing out another album.
+LifeShorts "every instrument sounds splendid" yeah, this is seriously a great live mix
Was reading the back and forth in the comments and was like 10 years ago! Best Kept Secret indeed. I was watching Black Francis with my new gf and my old gf on the other arm. What a night and what a show! Love The War on Drugs and hoping to catch a show by them soon....10 years...whew! Where does all the time go?!
Some amazing music coming out of Philly these days.
Глас БОБ ДИЛАН две хиљадитих, рок.. СУПЕРИШКА.
My favorite drummer, dude is awesome.
He's definitely putting in the work but man, poor guy! Adam only knows how to program one drum beat ;-)
Brazil in love
@@karstenhammerhansen If the beat is good enough, you don't need more than one.
One of a very few shows (and I've been to hundreds over the years) that literally brought me to tears of joy. Just transcendent live. When music does that, you know you're alive.
Love the peoples vibe during Red eye.
Eyes to the wind! those keyboards amazingly enclose the theme in a solid rock
33.35. RED EYES, i Push and Pull with all my might, riding my bicycle down the open roads to Freedom and Fun. You guys are great.
Red Eyes @ 33:50
Simply a great band. Wonderful set.
Their live performance sucks! Burning live version is horrible, and also Your love is calling my name. Granduciel's voice and guitar are very weak. They can't sound on stage as they do on studio. A great disappointment!
woooooooohoooooooooo love this shit
Many thanks for uploading this great concert!
That horn... 'nuff said.
translation from nineties to 2010+
When I'm listening to the music of 'Under Pressure', I'm hearing Roxy Music.
this is so great, love this music.great band.
That man 😍 everything the whole him is just wow!
This band is pure genius and nothing less.
sing like Dylan, wanna write like Springsteen, pretend to sound like U2. But yeah, they´re good
They hate us cause they Anus
True. True. And, much better guitarist than the Edge. Still enjoy them.
adrian estévez palacios LMAO. All i can hear is Bono now. I HATE YOU
juurviljasupp not a chance. Edge is the best guitarist ever in terms of pure ability to use the entire instrument (pedals, delays etc.) and turn it in to a completely new instrument
Lol. I definitely hear the Bob Dylan comparison.
Outstanding.
Lost in the dream best album of the year.
P
I hear something fresh --better than Dylan more up-colorful than Green on Red. Fine American group 'n sounds. :)
I hope they come to LA sooooooooooooon !
Give me The National over this any day!
3:45 People not at the concert be like - WOAH! We gotta get over here ASAP and listen to this god like music! :-)
THE SOUND IS TOO LOW WITH THE CONNECTION CONTROL IN RUclips, PLS. MAKE THE VOLÙME PERFECT FOR THE LISTENERS VIEWERS, THANK YOU !!!
rewelacja taki Dylan, Mark Knopfler..
Burning sounds like Young Turks by Rod Stewart. Anyone else hear that?
Amazing. Does anyone know what effect he has on hist guitar during Under The Pressure?
No drugs required, Althoughg a decent toot , and a 3ft joint, wouldn't go amiss :)
what a boring crowd they could at least attempt to enjoy this bands best hit
I've been lost in a dream since I first found out about these guys
