I've travelled solo most of the time. When i went with my friend i had to do things i didn't want to do for example late night drinking and clubbing or going to the beach to sunbathe for hours. My friend wasn't really interested in culture. When we went to porto together he didn't visit any of the churches or visit any port wine cellars or eat at nice restaurants. He doesn't even like wine. The only positive thing about it for me was that the accommodation was cheaper because we shared the cost but i wouldn't do it again. Twice was enough.

Thank you so much for your past experience in travel. Yes, that's a common experience for many travelers, I'm afraid. Travel is subjective for sure. When you figure in the cost, time and energy spent for travel, it only makes sense to do it how it's best for you so you get the most out of it. So glad you started to travel solo!

@@CORRTravelwell most of my friends are married or have girlfriends they wouldn't be allowed to travel with me anyway so if i dont go solo i wont be able to go at all. I'm not totally alone i know some people i can hang out with sometimes. That's an advantage of going to the same destination. I do get lonely sometimes but that feeling goes eventually. I'm more open when i travel i will talk to other people. I don't just stay in porto. I will go on day trips outside and I've also been to Lisbon for four days on my own in 2017. I will also go to Italy sometime in the future.

I commend you on your choice to start getting out there and traveling. Good for you! I actually do solo travel coaching if you'd like to schedule a call with me: www.corrtravel.com/coaching-services/
I don't work with agents, but I can help point you in the right direction to find the best type of travel for you and even help create your Europe itinerary. I hope to hear from you. 😃

Wish there were better ways to find like minded people to plan some trips with. I go solo when there is no choice, but prefer one or two people with me. Just hard to find. I enjoy my solo trips, but I have nobody to eat with and I like to be waited on. It's uncomfortable to sit at a table alone.
Never met anyone on trips. I am introverted mostly and nobody ever said much at all. If on a tour same thing.. they talk briefly but nobody to make friends with for later

Thank you for sharing your insights and feelings on traveling alone. Yes, there are those challenges in meeting people while traveling. I find small group tours within my destination work well for me in meeting others and breaking up my solo time, should I wish to.
In planning trips with others, however, there is a great way to find like-minded people for a travel situation. It's called voluntourism. And it's fantastic. Pick a cause you love, or something you want to learn how to do, and research the best volunteer groups and sites that offer what you're looking for and you will certainly find those that are like-minded. You may need to dedicate more time for this type of travel, but the results can be very rewarding travel. You never know where it may take you in life geographically, spiritually, or professionally. 😀 I've done it before (coral reef conservation dive work in Belize) and loved it. Can't wait to voluntour more. Try it.
