I watched your video and i saw that your meccanoid had his right shoulder servo was slack and his feet bar too. My mecchanoid was build in 12 hours but it seems to be a little bit deaf sometime in voice commands (french). I would like to add servos for knees and clamps like M.A.X, but i think that the meccabrain is probably limited for add-ons...
One of the problems with these guys is that they shake their nuts and bolts loose after while, so you keep hearing the screws hit the floor and then have to figure out where to put them back in. All the jerky movement loosens them. As for add on servos, I suspect you are right about that, although I never tried anything like that myself. My time with these bots was limited to only about 2 weeks, so not a lot of time to experiment beyond the initial build.

If it's the build process that's important to you, both versions are built exactly the same way, so saving money in that case is totally worth it. This year's version can say a lot more things than last year's, but the original was also very impressive and could do most of the coolest things, like recording a LIM, using the app's features, and most of the same pre-programmed dancing and stuff. So it all boils down to whether or not you think a few extra features are worth the price difference. Depending on where you live and what currency we're talking about, you might have saved anywhere from $100 to $250 (or more), so I think you got a really good deal. I personally would probably not worry too much about losing the upgraded features. Most kids probably wouldn't even notice unless they had friends with the new one and wondered why theirs couldn't tell a story or something. Both versions are highly entertaining. Hope this helps!

Well, the 2.0 is quicker and easier to build as he has considerably less parts, but I believe that the original can do pretty much all of the same stuff that the new one can do because when they upgraded the app with new features they made everything backwards compatible. So personally I would probably go for the cheaper price unless you want the easier build.

I find the plastic to be very solid and of high quality, so I personally have no complaints about it. Then again, I never had Meccano sets before, so I didn't have expectations of metal.

No, not really. He tries, but his wheels just aren't meant for carpet.

I don't remember many details about it now other than it uses open source programming. I can't really be more specific than that.

Me too! It's durable enough, and yet lighter than metal would be. This bot is already heavy enough without having metal parts in him.
