Can't believe my hometown of Pittsburgh, PA isn't even in the top 50 largest cities anymore. Use to have over 600,000 people living there in the 1950's and 1960's. I left in 1981 after graduating college, so I guess I shouldn't complain about it's population loss. 😣
@Joseph Beckmann true that. I couldn't even finish watching the video. So misleading, especially for an amateur when they view the photos. MSA or CSA is the correct measurement for this type of video.
While I would agree with others that MSA population is a fairer comparison, this is city proper and Pittsburgh now ranks #66 having lost even more population since the 2010 census. Pittsburgh MSA is ranked #27 but the bad news is that it has also lost population since the 2010 census ... and that is somewhat unusual since in older cities, the core may lose population but the MSA generally doesn't.
12patstombrady City proper can be the correct measurement. It all depends on whether they say metro area or not, which in this case they didn’t, so it does leave the possibility open that they meant the city proper, which they did.
Same with St Louis and Cincinnati, 2 places I lived in. Both places have a city population of around 300k, which isn’t even top 60 now, but metro population is #20 for StL and #30 for Cincy.
@@skypesos yeah Minneapolis has a city limits population of like 440,000-ish as of 2021, but has a metro of 3.6 million which is the 16th highest in the us
Same with Miami. As of 2020 the city limit only had 460k ppl but the metro area dosnt make it seem like that. By city limit it’s ranked 43 but by metro it’s ranked 7.
If Austin makes it in the Top 10 which isn't unusual since it's growing fast, that would mean 4 cities in the top 10 are located in Texas. Houston, San Antonio, Dallas & soon to be Austin.YES!!😀👍
@@myl333s I don't think that'll happen because just like Dallas, Austin is surrounded by growing suburbs and almost has no more room to expand. Currently the Austin metro is suburb-heavy meaning more people live in the neighboring towns than in the core city; whereas San Antonio has more people in the anchor city than in the suburbs hence its higher ranking in this list than Dallas and its larger metro area.
I hope not. Texas has car centric sprawling "cities" whilst California has San Francisco and the other major cities are more built up and resemble what a city should be like.
Big population isn’t always something awesome. I used to think big population = good when in was young but it’s not always true. Often bad Infrastructure and overcrowding occur
Impressive video! Those were great fonts used for the titles, credits, and the listings of the cities and their populations. Love that background music too! What is the name of the music score and who played it? :-)
I know the suburbs around the cities don't count just the city itself here in Dallas if all the cities connected to the whole Dallas-Fort Worth area counted it would be a lot bigger than Houston and its suburbs San Antonio to
The city limits of a city no longer define a city nor its population. One must consider today the entire metro area. A great example is Minneapolis-Saint Paul with a metro population over 3 million which would land them in the top 20 metro areas. It's 2021, folks!
Biggest cities in Brazil; São Paulo ( 12.200.000) -Rio de Jsneiro (6.300.000 ) - Brasilia (capital 3.000.000) -Salvador ( 2.500.000)- Belo Horizonte ( 2.300.000 ) - and more other cities between 1.000.000 /2. 000.000
The population numbers are pretty out of date (by around 10 years), which swaps a few of the cities on the list, and metro populations are more legitimate nowadays, but otherwise, great video.
Charlotte skyline needs updating........around 5 more skyscrapers in that view now and more going up. Population is probably well over 900,000 as of 2020. Metropolitan population is between 2.5 and 3 million now.
It does and doesn't. Some cities are just comparing completely different measurements. Now this city is in Canada, but still a good comparison. Example Toronto is 2.7 million people. Houston is 2.3 million. They look close right? Well Toronto land area 244 sq miles, Houston is 599sq miles. So what is Toronto population with its suburbs? Its 5.5 million people in 692 sq miles. What is Houston and its suburbs? Well its 4.9 million people or you can stretch it as far as 6.9 million as metro population...except the difference is Houston is just accounting a much further distance into account. Not similar measurements at all.
Editor; It’s WICHITA. Never would of guessed I’m in the top 50. Add to that 9 surrounding cities that intersect Wichita city limits ballooning population to 648,000.
Good grief... why do people always pick that horrible angle of Houston’s skyline to use? I call that “the Western wall”. It’s the West side of downtown where the buildings come to a dead stop at Buffalo Bayou Park, and it’s the most boring angle of downtown Houston there is. The best angle is from the Southeast, or from the stadium at UH. Next best angle is from the North-Northwest, or from I-45 North approaching the I-10 intersection. Really, *ANY* angle is better than the one used here.
They’re probably mad and kind of jealous cause their city and states shit. So they pick a bad photo to downplay the actual size of it, they mad cause Texas isthe number one state younger generations moving too right now. Texas is 2nd if not 1st most powerful state in USA
I know this video is 6 old. As of 2022, DENVER's population is 715,522 and is now higher than other cities on this video. And its very large suburb AURORA's population is 386,261.

Jacksonville takes up the entire county of Duval and there is a lot of undeveloped area's in the Westside of that county. If that city spreads all the way to the farthest west of that county, Jacksonville would easily be in the top 5 on this list in the future (not anytime soon) but that Metropolitan area is almost non-existent.
