My family landed in Baltimore in 1869, on the SS Baltimore. I'm still trying to pull the pieces of that era together. And, yes, I've been to the church. My great grand parents lived on Muir street.
Was actually baptized at St. Wenceslaus while my grand parents lived around the corner we would go to church as I grew everytime the bells rang for a funeral we went. Both my grandparents had their funeral masses there and are buried in Baltimore. There are more that hid the fact that they were Jewish and became Catholic then most realize.
St. Wenceslaus is near and dear to my heart! I found my faith there in 2014 while studying at Johns Hopkins for a graduate degree. 5 years later I walked out its doors a bride. IMO it's the most beautiful church in the world ... and I've been to many, including in Rome! God has never felt as close as He does inside this church.
I thought this church was closed. I remember attending this church and wish I could remember the wonderful father that I listened to in the late 70s and early 80s
This was the neighborhood church of my wife's family after coming to this country from the previous Czechoslovakia in the 1880s. Her grandmother attended this church up to the late 1970s when she moved out of the city. Her mother and uncle both attended elementary school there. My father-in-law volunteered as a loan officer at one of the many building and loans. Just for edification kolaches is pronounced "Go lotch kee" in Czech. I was the first person in 110 years to break their bloodline (Czechs married Czechs) and something I had to learn. LOL Houska (Hōska) was a part of every Christmas.
This was wonderful to see. I went to elementary school there until my family moved to Hamilton, and made my first holy communion at this church.
Thanks for another informative video!
My great grandparents lived on Chester street right near the church. They immigrated here and were tailors.
My Aunt and Uncle lived on Chester Street.

We love hearing about these rich family histories!

Thank you for the great video. I made my Confirmation then graduated at St. Wenceslaus. I never knew the school was built before the church.
Attended the school from the 4th through 8th grade! My maternal grandmother's parents were from Bohemia.
