What is VPI (Velopharyngeal Insufficiency)?

This video describes what VPI is causing hypernasal speech and/or nasal regurgitation of food/liquids with swallow. Velopharynx functioning is described through animation, MRI scan, and nasal endoscopy. Examples of both normal velopharynx movement and VPI are shown.

Wow. After 29 years and tons of unsuccessful speech therapy I believe I have this. It’s just too bad it’s too late for anything to be done in my case. I can’t pronounce “z,s,sh” and now my son is even noticing I don’t sound normal compared to other moms. I can never tell my child to “shh” or “shush” all these years of suffering with this when it could’ve been fixed.😞😞

I got that my muscle is weak and dont close when l speak and air go to my nose l was diagnose with VPI they send me speech terapy but didnt work they put botox it wont work l need surgery.
