Canadian volunteer firefighter pays own way to fight Australian bushfires

- A Canadian volunteer firefighter spoke Sunday about his decision to pay his own way to get to Australia to help in the effort of fighting the devastating bushfires and how he ended up working alongside the Adaminaby Bushfire Brigade.
Despite not telling any of his three daughters, Dan Derouin flew to Australia on New Year's Day, all on his own dime.
Derouin has 30 years of firefighting experience and first offered his help to the New South Wales Rural Fire Service Headquarters, but had no luck finding a brigade. He then headed south and joined a crew in Adaminaby in the Snowy Mountains.
He plans to return to Canada on Jan. 14.

"Nothing stronger than the heart of a volunteer" volunteering to be a firefighter I know has been the best thing I've done with my life. Our pay is the gratitude from the people we're fortunate enough to help, makes it all worth it. No paycheck could match the value of that....
The multimillion$ profiteering airlines should put these guys in first class round trip free of charge. Time to rearrange priorities for people like this...

Benjamin Hamilton Yes, things are certainly looking that way after all the weeks of controversy... but our PM is giving Firies $300 per day for 20 days per year to help cover costs so this should also be extended to international helpers - likewise the airlines to get onboard and rebate their ticket costs.

The amazon rainforest being under attack on deforestation and wild fire till nothing is left, Puerto Rico earth quake, war war 3 might break out, thousands of troops left home, Canada 🇨🇦 plane shot down in Iran 🇮🇷, Haiti lack of water out break in their country trying to find clean water, pythons and iguana taking over Florida native wildlife and eating them away. Especially in the Everglades. The USA is under a lot of presser with everything going on helping out other countries in need of assistance. Our taxpayers at the same time better be well spend and not be spent on billions of dollars on building bathroom check out in RUclips or internet to know what I mean. Who knows what’s next
