- The first RUclips video I ever shot was the Puff Stitch Slouchy Crochet beanie hat. It's such a fun hat, that I had to come back with a much better shot, more informative tutorial for you! It's beginner friendly (you don't even need to know how to puff stitch!) and easy to work up with stunning results.

I made this yesterday! It’s the first thing I’ve ever made that doesn’t look homemade - I made a slight adaption, to pull everything together at the top, I threaded through all the gaps and pulled tight which I found easier. I’m starting on my second one right now 😊
ooh good to know, I was thinking of doing the same
That’s what I was thinking or decreasing end rows
@@nunya8843 but with decreasing, would you have enough thread leftover?
Same here. I decreased two together the whole top then stitched throughout and drew together
I watched almost 10 different Tutorials in spanish (my language), from 9 pm to 12 am and couldn't understand what was happening. It only took me 8 minutes watching your video to have a complete, fresh understanding of this technique. You're the best ever!!!! 😍 😍 Thank youuuuu
I LOVE how detailed this tutorial is, I'm so glad I stumbled upon your channel. Subscribed!
Wish we could add photos of our hats to inspire each other. One down, new yard and many more to go! Thanks for this terrific tutorial. 😍
I love this tutorial! I will be passing this around! Such great detail! My hat looks amazing. You got me feeling like a professional! Thank you girl!
You've got a very clear, gentle voice and relaxed way of presenting, which makes you easy to listen to and to learn from. Thank you.
I love this! I sat and watched the video and fell in love with the stitch!! I went out bought a hook and yarn and made my first ever crochet video! I think I did a really good job! Thank you for this video! Very easy to follow!
I made this with Red Heart Hopscotch yarn in color way “Jump Rope”. So adorable! This pattern is so easy to adjust the size according to your needs. I love that you work in a continuous spiral. It makes such an easy pattern and you really can’t tell after the first couple of rounds. It just blends right in. I will be making several more of these as gifts for sure.
I LOVE LOVE this beanie ✅ I’ll be making it soon using Yarn Bee Glowing from Hobby Lobby ! Thank you for sharing 😃
I loved this tutorial. my beanie turned out beautiful. I’m newer to crochet but this was easy to follow. So I just made my first winter hat. Love it! Thank you so much for the video :)
I just started crocheting last fall and your videos and patterns have been such a help. Thank you so much!
I love the hat, you made it seem so easy. I'm going to make it for my daughter. Thank you.

A great tutorial, I just finished a hat for my daughter. I’m very happy and thank you so much
Loved this video. You were really easy to understand and follow. This was my first attempt at a hat and I was super happy with how things turned out. Thanks for a great piece.
I super love all of your tutorials!!! Its very detailed and very beginner friendly!!! Cant wait to try this one.. ♥♥♥
I made this for my daughter. She loved it and it was really easy to do. I followed your other video and then saw this one last night. This does explain it in more detail so anyone should be able to make it. :)

Love this hat, I am in the process of making this right now and I also have made several of the every day cardigans from your videos as well..
I'm very new so it took me about 6 hours over the span of three days but it's amazing!! I only did 68 rows and 16 puff rows because of the amount of yarn I had to work with. Great practice run! Can't wait to make another! Thank you for the tutorial!
I enjoyed this hat tutorial it turned out really nice. Thank you so much. I only hated the gathering at top. But I made it through with your encouraging me. Thanks and happy crocheting.
Hi! I made this and I’m left handed and this was an amazing and beautiful hat! I love it sooooo much! Best tutorial❤
Super easy to follow, love the finished hat, so I made 3. Used Bernat Wavelength, a chunky yarn, I adjusted the quantity of rows to accommodate a larger hook. Turned out awesome!
You made it seem really easy, the sign of a good teacher!
Just finished my first slouchy beanie. Your video 2.0 was great! the final steps to pull the top together was tough but i managed it. i made this using Love this Yarn in variegated Candy Stick Stash. Beautiful! I printed and edited the written directions for my binder. Will make this again. Thank-you!
Thank you for a very clear tutorial, your work is so neat.
For you being a beginner you're doing an awesome job I actually wrote down your pattern thank you for inspire me to get back into crocheting you have a Merry Christmas
I just finished making this! I made mine in an icy pale blue color. I did only 15 rows of puff stitches so it is less slouchy, but I love it! 💕
I made this in pink for my niece this Christmas..She really loved it. Great quality hat..i HAVE MADE 2 FOR GIFTS AND THEY LOOK WONDERFUL . My niece wears it all the time. Thank you.
So I made one already and now I am making one for my 3 year old sister. I am going to be honest here. I love your tutorials. They are super easy to follow. Thank you!
Love it, super easy, no brainier fun crochet. Love your patterns and can't wait to try one of your sweaters. Thanks for sharing your time and talent 😉💗
Just finished my hat. Turned out so...cute 😍 Thank you for sharing
Just finished my hat and I love it!
I just completed this hat and I absolutely love it. I have a small head so I had to adjust the number of rows for the band and the body of the hat. I realized when I have completed the band and about 10 rows of the body, that the hat was going to be too big. It was super easy to unravel and start but because of the ease of this hat I was able to catch right up and finish the hat in a few hours.
Very nice! This is my first slouchy beanie hat. Great video tutorial! Thank You
Thanks for a very beginner-friendly video! I made this using not quite a full skein of Lion's Homespun (Lagoon), which is much chunkier than the yarn in your video. I just dropped one "yarn-over" from each puff stitch to compensate, and only had 7 rows in the band and 14 rows in the body of the hat to compensate, and it came out great!
I can finally comment: this is my second time coming to this video and I’m super happy with the results from the 2 slouch beanies I made for a co-worker/friend because of this pattern (and you!), so thank you for this wonderful tutorial! Keep up the good work! 💜
This is awesome, just finished mine in a Red heart soft, forest green, for fall in south TX. It's super easy to make, i adjusted as well and made 76 stitches round but might need to decrease a few more as its a bit big. Thanks for the tutorial.
This is the video that made me a new sub. You let us know that even an experienced crocheter makes mistakes. That tells us that you're human and care about your subs. I've not been crocheting for years like a lot of RUclipsrs/subs have. But, I'm not a complete beginner. This video was so descriptive that you made it SO easy to do. Some of the videos are from avid RUclipsrs that forget that not everyone knows all the stitches out there and rush through their videos. Some even have just music with someone crocheting. Those blow me away, lol. Ya gotta talk!! You, on the other hand, fully explain every stitch you do, making it so easy to do with no accidents! I love your videos and can't wait to binge watch them!! Thank you!! 🌼💜🌷
THANK YOU ....
I finished making mine...and it turned out kind of good.....since it's my second time trying.... I love it ...😊🖤
Such a lovely design and easy to follow you.I made 3 of these beanies and they look great. Thanks a lot
I loved making this hat it was so much fun. Your video was awesome and so easy to follow. Thank you!!
Love the slouchy beanie and it was so much fun to make. You video and instructions were very easy to follow. I will make several of these. Thanks!!
After making so many different hats, this is my favorite. Thank you very much for your video and the way you actually teach, it’s easy to follow you and understand.
This was much easier to follow than the first video you made. Thank you for making a new one.
I made one in red heart super saver ombré green apple and it turned out GREAT you are a great teacher and I have learned a great deal from you!! Also yes a zoom in would be nice but I can see what you’re doing fine! I’m gonna so make more of these hats!
I love puff stitch hats, so cute. Thank you xxxx
Great tutorial!! Easiest one I’ve found!! Looking forward to making this! TFS!
I'm a crochet newbie: this is the first hat I've made and fourth crochet item ( 3 amigurumi) since I started two months ago. I'm almost finished my hat using Red Heart in black. I used a 4.5mm hook for the trim. I think Sewrella misspoke when she said 96 rows. So, I crocheted until the band fit my head and added two more rows. (I normally wear big hair and wanted room). I used a 5.0mm hook on the puffs.
Newbie Notes: 1)This yarn made my fingers a bit sore after a few hours so take breaks or use a softer acrylic/blend, 2) Be careful not to grow the width of the hat by adding an extra puff on a single stitch. I counted 5 more on row #18 than on row #1. 3) Be careful not to pull strands from an old puff into a new puff. You'll know when you see diagonal lines in the space bn two puffs. 4) Add more rows if you want more slouch. I'm aiming for 22-25. 5) Use an ergonomic hook, 6) Get up and stretch every 45 mins or so.
7) Time. I've spent well over six hours on this hat. Maybe close to 10 at this point. My hook snagged and wouldn't pull through all the strands at once more often than I care to admit. This slowed me down. As a result, I had to really take my time. And, quickly tug the yarn through the loops.
Tweak: I may close my hat according to Lilu's Handmade Corner's technique on her Raspberry Stitch Hat.
The band ends up being 96 rows when you back-stitch every row. I alternated back-stitching and I ended up with 72.
Every head is different. She said 96 rows fits her head. The number of rows will change according to head size and how you plan to wear the hat. Also you have to take into consideration the brand of yarn you are using, the texture of the yarn and the thickness of the yarn stands. With all these factors considered, how your project is constructed will vary. Oh one last thing, how you crochet should also be taken into account and this can change according to how you hold your hook and your comfort level with the project.
No. 7, same here.
I came here to see what I did wrong-thank you! My hat got wider and wider :(
Thanks for the tips! This isn’t t as easy as it looks.
Thank you so much! I have been looking to make this hat, and watch your updated video...made it with no problems!!! Thanks!
I just made one for my five year old and i enjoyed it to crochet soooo much cause you made it super easy to follow. Thank you so much
I'm making my second one. I made the first for my niece and she wanted one for a friend. Lovely, Sewrella, this video is, indeed, better than the first!

I simply love this hat, thank you for sharing. 🌻💛🌺
Super awesome! Thanks for the tutorial! This is my favorite kind of hat I’ve ever made 😍
Omg, this beanie is absolutely perfect! Thank you so much!
Thank you, I love this hat pattern, and have made many!
Think I tried this last winter and pulled it out thinking I wouldn’t like it, but made one and love it! Made it a little smaller for my head and it worked! Thanks for the video doll, this video is better!
Thank you so much for this, I found your vid today and I have a new blue/green beanie now (took me aprox. 4hours). Good vibes from Peru. 😘
Thank you for redoing this video. I hope my seam comes out straight with this video😊 I will make it (again) soon!
I love this tutorial it is one of my go to's thanks sewrella
Great tutorial, I just finished this hat and it beautiful!
I love Vanna's yarn. I use it. It is soft. I have huge amounts of wool as well but hats are tricky itchy!!!
Your pattern was so easy to follow. The only thing I changed was the number of rows for the band, I only did 75 rows because of the size I wanted. The hat came out perfectly! Thank you
Loved making this slouchy. Thanks so much for the vid!😃💜
I'm going to make this because it doesn't start at the top and work down, and the stitches look really pretty. Thanks!
Just made this hat today. Loved making it
Love this hat. Your video was clear, I will be making more.
Thanks for sharing this pattern..it's very easy to follow and very beautiful outcome..I just made a few adjustment to better suit me..hope to see more of your patterns..
you're so good at tutorials. thank you!
I know this is a couple years old, but I'm new to crocheting and I'm finding so many fun and easy patterns! I love the bobble/puff stitch. I made a hat just yesterday using this stitch. I really wish I had seen this sooner. Every row was either increasing or decreasing and constant counting in every stitch. It was getting so exhausting! This pattern cannot get any easier. I'm crocheting different gifts for each family member this year because I just don't have the money to buy gifts. I will be making this hat in a ton of colors to give to all the females!! I might just make them 2 different colored hats a piece, lol. Thank you so much!! You just made my holiday so much easier, lol. 🤶🎅❄️⛄🎄
This was awesome. I simply love crocheting.
Love the hats! I used ur video that u first made of this hat , you did a great job, it was the prettiest and most professional hat I ever made, I get tons of compliments on it always, thanks for sharing 😄
This was the first crochet I ever made from your original video. I've made three now. I still find it works up quite large for me so I end up making the band shorter. But it's a really cool beginner hat.
I made this hat for several times. Thanks a lot.. i really enjoy and i love the pattern😀
I Love it, I done about 10 of this hats! Thank you
Thanks you. Love this hat,and the way you closed the top. Thank you
So cute!! I love it! Making a few of these for myself.
Brilliant tutorial struggled with the band at first but got it and love it. !!!!!!
I just finished one for my daughter. I’m trying to make a bunch of toques for Xmas gifts. I’ve been struggling to find an easy quick pattern but everything that is quick and easy are unremarkable to look at. Boring. I love the simplicity to prettiness ratio with your pattern. Thank you so much, you’ve saved Christmas lol. Now to check out your sites to see if you have a male pattern equivalent 🥰
The brim is also a beautiful stitch so professional
I've made alot of these ever since I came across this video!!❤️
Can't wait to try this. Christmas presents for sure!!!!
I have made several all are perfect. Your video is excellent.thank you!
This is the easiest hat pattern that I have seen I really like it.
Thank you ,, it's pretty hat, i just finished mine but i used 4.5 mm instead of 5, and i made 80 rows not 96, because 96 rows is too big, 80 is a slight big but not bad, and i put more single stitch to follow the pattern , thank you again, i love my new hat
Thank you so much it’s beautiful and I am doing one in blue variegated
I really love this. Can you make a messy bun hat with puff stitch? 🙂 I love your teaching style.
