I'm sure you know of it, but it would be amazing to see you do a video of playing "Revolution Under Siege: Gold" by AGEoD. I learned a great deal about that period from the details of that game. Importantly, the game inspired my reading of various viewpoints' histories of the Civil War. Every book seems to have its own propaganda stance! Objective history??? HA!!!

So you lick the boot of US of A again? Blinken rejected the involvement of US government agencies in undermining the Nord Stream pipeline.
The US State Department has previously denied:
      1. US involvement in the attempted kidnapping and assassination of Nicolás Maduro.
      2. US involvement in the assassination attempts of Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez.
      3. US involvement in organizing a coup d'état in Ukraine.
      4. US involvement in interacting with ISIS structures in different countries.
      5. The presence of US military biolaboratories and human experiments in Ukraine.
      6. The use of chemical weapons by terrorists in Syria and the falsification of chemical attacks by the Assad government.
      7. US involvement in the preparation of Lukashenka's assassination.
      8. US responsibility for coups and wars in the Middle East and Africa.
      9. The fact of profiting from the supply of LNG to Europe after the undermining of the Nord Stream.
      10. The presence of plans for a change of power in Russia and its political destruction.

A (mostly) unrelated fact: the "Whites" and "Reds" were also the popular names of the two factions of Polish independence movement in the period leading to the January Uprising of 1863-1864, and during the Uprising itself. Of course, the Whites were the more conservative and cautious faction, while the Reds were the more radical ones, and they started the Uprising.

Do you have any book recommendations to know more about this uprising?

    • @Artur_M.
      @Artur_M. Год назад +4

@@1996koke I actually don't know any books in English about it. The English Wikipedia has a considerably long and detailed article about the January Uprising, which has the 'References', 'Further reading' and 'External links' sections near the bottom, but only a minority of publications and resources listed there are in English, and I don't see a proper monograph of the uprising among them.
However, I can recommend some general books about the history of Poland (each of them having some part about the January Uprising):
      - God's Playground by Norman Davies (maybe a bit outdated but a classic)
      - Poland: A History by Adam Zamoyski
      - Poland: The First Thousand Years by Patrice M. Dabrowski
      - A Concise History of Poland by Jerzy Lukowski and Hubert Zawadzki.
As you can tell just by glancing at the Wiki article, the January Uprising is important not only to the history of Poland but also Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. It also indirectly contributed to the creation of the International Workingmen's Association known as the First International in 1864 in London. The January Uprising is also surprisingly relevant today, for example, the Kalinouski Regiment of Belarusian volunteers currently fighting on the Ukrainian side is named after one of the uprising's commanders and uses the date 1863 on its emblem. All things considered, it's weird there is so little about this uprising in English.

    Hi, Stefan!
Where I live, in the year 1923 began yet another skirmish between Chimangos, wearing a WHITE scarf, against Maragatos, wearing a RED scarf. They fought over who would rule the southernmost province of Brazil, called Rio Grande do Sul. The first war between them was in 1893. Our folk's identity is far from Brazil still today. We are culturaly closer to the pampas, than from Amazônia. The red is still in our flag 🟢🔴🟡, splitting with blood the green and yellow of Brazil's. 🇧🇷

White tends to be the color to symbolize any non-Communist faction, regardless of ideology, when in a conflict with Communists, stemming from the color white’s history as a symbol of monarchism and non-Communist republicanism. I like to lump all of these under the term “Classicalist”, basically meaning “white” (as in anti-“red”).

He said "everyone was yelling freedom which they interpreted as meaning everything was free and you could take whatever you want. " I'm assuming he meant his family were merchants and all their stuff was stolen. I'm 66. I've never known anyone who actually fought in a war to talk about their experiences. They seem to lock them all away in some dark recesses if their minds. Completely understandable unless you're some kind of psycho who likes to relive it.

This is one of your best videos. You explained this multi-layered, complex situation very well. Personally (correct me if I'm wrong), Yudenich came closest to handing the Reds their biggest defeat by almost taking St. Petersberg/Leningrad, which also gave Trotsky his great moment of glory. Makhno wasn't a white, of course. Didn't the Anarchists call themselves "Blacks"? I have a good story about how my father accidentally met one of these White officers back in the 1950s in Connecticut, but it's too long to relate here. Maybe the Whites would have done better if they all attacked simultaneously to the ding dong at10:28 ? Take it easy.

    • @frenzalrhomb6919

Yeah, you're right. The Anarchist Forces under Nestor Makhno did indeed call themselves the "Black's", and were for a while, quite the force to be reckoned with.
P.S - This channel and moreover, videos like this on the channel are just the right place to share your own family experience with the very people who were involved in the events such as those described in the video above. If you ever have the time, or the inclination to come back, I for one would be thrilled to hear what it who it was your Father meet all those years ago, and his impression of the officer in question. I know that unfortunately,. neither of them is still with us, and able to give their account of meeting each other, but you good Sir, you're still here, and you may just be the only living link with that event. So if you ever get the inspiration, I for one would love to hear about an ex-Tzarist officer in Cincinnati in the 1950s, and your own Father. I'm sure that it'll be well worth reading!!
      Anyway cheers, from Australia 🍺

    You missed some basic matters:
    1. Denikin heading toward Moscow was not defeated by the Reds, his army was hit in the back by the "Black" Revolutionary Insurgent Army of Ukraine anarchists (under Nestor Makhno), which smashed Denikin's supply lines. That forced him to retreat.
    2. The Reds losses at first were caused in part by it being a totally volunteer army. When Trotsky made the Reds take conscription, then they were able to get their act together and beat the Whites.
    3. Also the Reds/Bolsheviks were in very separatist groups with different goals at first, it was only as they were smashed by Whites and reformed they became disciplined under Lenin/Trotsky.
    4. The West Russian Volunteer Army in Lithuania and Latvia was started by the German Freicorp being forced to stop, so the Germans changed the Freicorp name to the West Russian Volunteer Army and added some Russian POWs to the mix to make it "russian". WRVA was mainly a disguised force for German political power interests in the region. Really the WRVA should just be treated as the British, French, USA or Japan - as outside power.
    5. You mentioned the peasant uprisings - these were usually called Green forces (with no main leader.) BTW, there was also a Blue army (under Alexandr Antonov.)
As far as I know Blue, Green, Black, White and Red were all the colors of the technicolor Russian Civil War.

In 1918 after the Russian revolution things escalated and civil war ensued resulting in 40 000 deaths during few months, luckily the Whites won because the Reds would have joined Soviet Russia causing 10 to 20 times more deaths.

I'm sorry but this video is not your success due to a lot of mistakes. Even less than half of this video was enough to start crying by blood. For example:
    1. Lt.Gen. Anton Denikin wasn't a commander-in chief of the White movement, he was just a C.-i.-c. of the Armed forces in the South of Russia (Rus. Вооруженные силы на Юге России), which mostly consist of the Volunteers' Army and troops of three cossacks' autunomous regions - Cossacks' Voiskos of Don, Kuban and Terek and also units formed after the Volunteers' army.
    2. The counter-offensive of Reds against Denikians started not in 1920 but in fall of 1919.
    3. Admiral Alexander Kolchak wasn't a leader of Siberian army because theese forces was created before Kolchak became even a minister of war of the Provisional All-Russian Government. Since Adm. A. Kolchak became a supreme commander-in-chief of all White forces in Nov'1919 (and Denikin became his subordinate and representative in the South of Russia as well as Lt.Gen. Miller in the North and General of infantry N. Judenich in the North-West) ex-Siberian army became just one part of Eastern front's troops.
It's a pity and the very 1st then I'm so dissapointed in your job.

You forgot to mention about soldiers who went to form an army of new-born Ukrainian republic. They fought for independence against both white and red russians. Btw, Kuban cossacs were ancestors of ukrainians

Thing is, my friend, that you have completely left out the role of the Prussians--history's original and greatest Bad Guys--in the incredibly savage Russian Civil Wars. Here's my axe to grind: if the Prussians had not launched Lenin into St Petersburg on that sealed military train from his exile in Switzerland in that crucial moment in 1917, the Russian Revolution would have remained in the hands of the Mensheviks, the Social Democrats, who would have established the democratic traditions and institutions that the same fookin' Prussians had first crushed in 1848. Stalin would have remained just another two-bit, ruthless gangster. He might have murdered a few dozen innocents before being killed by other gangsters...but, crucially aided by the reactionary Prussians, Stalin became the most murderous lunatic in all of human history. (And, okay, Mao might actually have murdered more humans than Stalin, but it was the politics of Stalin's Soviet Union that has far, far more impacted the modern world than Mao's medieval murder of his own peasantry.)
All of that hugely important history aside, the other key thing that you somehow failed to mention here in your far too brief video on the shockingly brutal Russian Civil War is the role in it that was played by the Western Allies and their insatiable corporations and paymasters who instinctively protected and promoted the "White Russian" cause. Let's not forget that this was still the Age of the Robber Barons--the ultimate enemies, then as now, of democracy and fairness.
In America and the UK at the very same moment, the oppressed working class were mounting their most serious challenges to the eternal ruling class. The establishment of unions and the right to vote for women and the disenfranchised working poor. When young kids still had to go to work at age fcking 7. For the victorious Western Allies of WWI, crushing the Russian Revolution was actually much, much more crucial than defeating the already dying Hapsburg and Hohenzollern Empires. (Just as it remains today in the rotten, far-right oligarchies who still control the US and the UK.)
Why are contemporary, and especially, RUclips historians so afraid of connecting these very obvious dots? Hierarchies of power should be fair game in a free and democratic world...and yet, they very much are not. Why is that, pray tell? And I get it--you're just another frightened and completely intimidated RUclipsr who can't speak his mind, etc, etc, but what does that say about our "democracies" and our "freedom of information" in the 21st century? Ain't nothing really changed in a thousand years. Those with the gold still make the rules, and journalists and historians still have to be very, very careful about what powerful entities they might piss off. Our "modern world" is essentially no different from that of the Good Soldier Švejk a century ago. The only thing that surprises me is what cowards we are today. A hundred years ago, people spoke out much more forcefully about this sh*t and faced much greater consequences, while today we're timid fookin' rabbits who are far more worried about our revenue streams than being sent to a gulag. Fookin' cowards whose presentations of "history" are a disservice to history because they are only concerned with being "demonetized."

speech by Mikhail Frunze (Bolshevik, Moldovan by nationality, brilliant self-taught military man):
"If you open any White Guard newspaper, you will see that Kolchak, who says that he defends the unity of Russia, that he goes for its national revival, this Kolchak has help from all the imperialists of the world. In such a newspaper you will read triumphant notes that the British are advancing very successfully in the North of Russia, that they have taken Arkhangelsk and that not today or tomorrow they will move closer to the center of Russia.
Here you will also read that Estonia and Finland are beating the Bolsheviks, that Petrograd will be taken tomorrow, and that their troops are working very successfully. In the west, the Bolsheviks are also successfully beaten and Polish troops are advancing. In the same way, Romanian troops are advancing successfully in the south; the English and French fleets are acting very successfully, bombarding the Black Sea cities and also beating the Bolsheviks. Then you read that Baku is in the hands of the British, and the Bolshevik ships are also being destroyed by the British fleet. In the east, Japanese troops are also beating the Bolsheviks and also acting successfully.
Russian Russians, comrades, compare all these statements that you have read, and think about where the Russian people are here - everywhere on these numerous fronts are the British, French, Japanese, Poles, Estonians, etc., and where are the Russian workers and peasants? They are here, inside the country, they are the Bolsheviks who are being beaten by all these Japanese, British, Poles and others.
And I think, comrades, that every fool should understand that there, in the camp of our enemies, there can be no national revival of Russia, that there can be no question of fighting for the well-being of the Russian people from that side. Because it's not because of the beautiful eyes that all these French and British help Denikin and Kolchak - naturally, they pursue their interests. This fact should be clear enough that Russia is not there, that we have Russia..."

Allies of the Russian Empire and the Tzar in the Great War were friends of White Armies that fought for the Tzar.
They were the enemies of the Red Army and the Bolsheviks because they made separate peace agreement with the Central Powers and excluded what's left of the Empire out of the war, the Peace of Brest-Litovsk.
They also gave freedom of independence to the secessionist countries: Baltic states, Finland, Poland and Ukraine.
That same deal was copy-pasted with the Royal Yugoslavia when Tito got the power in 1945.
Royal Serbia and later Kingdom of SCS, at first allowed the Bolshevik Communist Party, but later banned them and prosecuted them.
After assassination attempts, thier leaders were even shoot for resisting arrest.
Communist Party argued for the freedom of independence for all the separatist that wish to do so,
that's why they were popular among them.
Their ethnic political program was one of the causes for the Civil War in R Yugoslavia during the occupation of Axis in WW2.
