The Power of White Fear feat. Chris Hayes | Robert Reich

  • Chris Hayes explains the power of white fear and the great divide between the “Colony” and the “Nation.” From our country's founding to Selma, Ferguson, and more than 140 cities today, we have seen our two Americas laid bare. In one America, white people enjoy the freedom and privilege to go about their lives however they see fit. In the other, Black and brown people are terrorized and oppressed by the state, their freedom crushed by discriminatory and harsh policing.

I used to be white middle class and I lived in the nation and I could never understand what the people in the colony were complaining about. Then around 2008 bad things happened and I myself fell out of the middle class and became a member of the colony. Since then I've had a serious education as to what its like to live in the colony. Now I understand what the people who live in the colony go through and now I understand what they are complaining about.

My family and I were thrown in to the "colony" because I wanted to befriend black people and have them come visit me in the white neighborhood. The white police threatened my family and spread horrible lies about us they ruined my mother's ability to work. We ended up living in public housing because of their targeted effort. I also saw how the police are constantly there harassing the black community. The police never came in the white community unless called. In the white neighborhood you have a neighborhood watch, in the colony neighborhood you have a police watch. You see them you go in your house as quick as you can before they stop and illegally search and question you. You can't go drive around the place without paying more attention to where a cop could be compared to the speed limit signs. The people in the colony really do feel hunted because they are. I'm so grateful for my life and my experiences. I love the black community. They deserve every respect and dignity afforded to the white male Christian down the street. The man needs to get their knee off the black and minority community's neck.

When I took an international summer school course on epidemiology at Tufts U. in 1993, the stats prof had to explain to the international class (mostly Europeans) that the US is a 3rd world country within a 1st world country (in the terminology of the time). He did so that students could understand the dataset that we were using. It contained characteristics of birth rates by race.

If Blacks were allowed the same protection under the law as Asians and others are allowed there would be no Black ghettos, because all those Black towns that were burned down during reconstruction took away all of the generational wealth that Blacks were building. Reparations are in order for that alone, because those towns were burned down with the help of local governments. Tulsa, Rosewood and hundreds more is what caused the Black flight away from the south only to push Blacks into more poverty.

If Chris Hayes loves black people so much, he is free to move to any black neighborhood he wishes. Of course, virtue signaling liberals like him and you probably, will never do that. There is good reason that many fear the violent criminal underclass. Easy to talk from your safe neighborhood behind your computer screen. I am glad there are cops out there to protect me and I am glad I live in a county where the local DA does not tolerate violent criminals.

It is a fact that the violent crime wave of the 60s and 70s was from teraethellead added to gasoline. This caused brain development and cognitive problems in inner city children who grew up in smog. Smog, which was common in the 50s and 60s before emissions controls. Especially with the explosion of automobile ownership and the plowing of the Interstate Highway System through the poorer parts of US cities.
Essentially, a large portion of the Boomers were intellectually and emotionally stunted from chemical pollution that lasted until the mid-1970s when leaded gasoline was phased out. Though this was known, violent crime was blamed on anything but the oil companies. Politicians blamed a lack of morality and religion or family values or a person's race. This was done while Congress passed legislation to protect oil companies from lawsuits.
Violent crime has decreased per capita every year since its high in the 1970s. As the Boomers aged and were killed in drug addiction and violent attrition, America has actually become a much safer society.
But with the advent of eight hours of local news every day, 24/7 news channels, and viral videos all fed by cameras everywhere, we tend not to think so.

…and even though a nearly four-fold increase in crime decades ago was dramatic, it was still from only 2 per 1,000 people to only 8 per 1,000 people, and largely occurring within small segments of the population and within small geographic areas. Stranger-on-stranger crime was a very small part of this. It was a cause for concern and for more effective protection of people on high crime areas, and more attention to the root causes of crime. It did not call for erosions of civil liberties, or for taking a command-and-control approach to huge swaths of the US population.

The massive burning elephant in the room, is why was there a 2x violent crime jump between 1960 and 1970, and a 4x violent crime jump between 1960 and 1990.
If we can figure out what social circumstances are the root causes of that sort of social cancer,we can start to unpack all of the downstream cascades those things create.

I read an article today that stated that America has fallen into Tribal factions going against each other. And I would ask people to got to Breitbart and read the comments by the Right Wingers. And Trump is a symptom of what America has been going through since the Civil War. Obama tried, but failed due to the GOP controlling the House and Senate for 6 years of his Presidency. And now we have Trump who is just fanning the flames and not helping anyone. How can he say that the Right Wingers who stormed the Michigan State Legislature armed to the teeth and wearing mask good people, yet calls Antifa a terrorist organisation when it is not even an organisation? The right complains about the so called violent left, but the left has become violent due to the oppression of the Right Wing. Americans are heading for another Civil War, and it will be ugly.

    We need many things
    First
A log like sexual offenders or DUI, to black list police that can't handle the position to not be put in power of a gun. Not to decrease the position if good police , but some people just can't handle the power. Bad doctors get their ability to practice medicine removed. Police that have bad issues should not get fired and then go to next town and offend again. It's a big responsibility and we honor that just need a law to register the ones that should not be doing this. No offence good police.
    Second truth in advertising.
All social media should mark 'fake' stories on infuence and advertising. This includes advertising on TV , Facebook, tweets, news. If wrong red marked and fined, repeated offenders could be banished.

Mr. Hayes has stated that there 2 types of "justice" in this land. He is mistaken. There are 3 levels of justice. One for white people, one for black people and one for rich people. The two divisions are immoral and should be ended. Real Christians should be raising holy hell about that, which, of course, they don't. They are the reason so many people are leaving the Christian church.
But I digressed. Mr. Hayes left out the 3rd and worst corruption of "justice". That is the non-justice that is given to the rich. They do as they like with no fear of their crimes having any personal consequences at all. 😢

American troops in Viet Nam came home wounded of soul and spirit- PTSD wouldn't be recognized till after Gulf Storm in '92. Tens of thousands of minority soldiers released into the public domain with violent nightmares and friends dying from Agent Orange poisoning. It would be hard to imagine a better way to create a generation of disaffected antisocial types.FWIW, the Pentagon, through it's recruiters were selecting for lower IQ than had been their norm, as well as hitting the criminal courts to see what they could sweep off the floor. You need to redo this, and expand your horizons a bit.

@@timsgta Because a lot of it was "about race". I was among those swept up from courthouse floors- we were offered a "deal" take the enlistment or go to prison, with little talk of how dangerous that could be. I was one of the few "non minorities". And that is where , what and why my comment stands- it represents the truth of what I saw and lived through.
Your comments are true for you- there are still many in the uniform who think and act differently, from recruits to generals. Fortunately, most smart enough to attain any rank realize the USMC, USA, USN, US AF are not very receptive of it and moderate their behavior. But some do not. And some commanders are much less "strict" on violators that others.
BTW, I didn't start out attacking you and cursing; from this point forward, hold a civil tongue or you may assume my contempt and disregard for your future posts.

I have recently moved into a very mixed neighborhood. The move was from a rural white area to an area that is mostly Asian, Black, and Latino. On third of the population is white. I see a disproportionate use of drugs, littering, and crime coming from a small number of black people in the community. Every other group seems to mostly have their lives together. Why is this small group causing so much trouble for the rest of the neighborhood? Why can't they get their crap together like the rest of the black members of the community who seem to get life?

I believe in a citizens right to protest and what happened to George Floyd was a tragedy for sure but what about the looting and burning of stores and innocent peoples homes? I have sympathy for the family of George Floyd but the rioting looters can go to hell. There is no excuse for these people who use George Floyd's death as a reason to fill their homes with stolen merchandise.
