  • Lexi was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (blood cancer) when she was just 2.5 years old. She underwent 2.5 years of intensive chemotherapy and finished treatment at 4 years old in October 2020. The very next month in November, Lexi got to have her bell ringing ceremony. Ringing the bell signals the end of treatment and NO MORE CHEMO!! We were all so happy. Lexi has been off treatment and in remission for 4 years now. Next year at 5 years post treatment we can say she is cancer free! We recorded a lot during her treatment and took lots of pictures so she can go back and remember what it was like for her since she was so young when it first happened. We have the bad and the good, but mostly let her see the good times. When she's older and she can handle it and she asks, we can show her the parts that were hard times. She often asks us about her chemo or brings things up like side effects and after effects she has had related to the chemo. We try to be as open and honest as possible with her. We are so thankful we have had 4 years in remission! She goes for her next oncology check up at the end of September. We will be scheduling her neuropsych eval as well as an appointment with their ophthalmologist on the advice of her eye doctor. Even when treatment ends, it's never over. She will be seen yearly by the late effects team until she turns 18. People always say to us they don't know how we did it, how we survived that. I say, some people never meet their hero, but I already met mine- Lexi. You just put one foot in front of the other and keep going. September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. It's a gold ribbon because, "children are more precious than gold". I listed several foundations that you can donate to. I will include their links below:
