Think about it. To put is straight not only Shias but whosever considers Ali to be the Wali of Allah “Ya Ali Madad”. ... Moreover, the Prophet always use to say “Ya Ali, Ya Ali” Hence a part of the tradition is to mention the name of moula Ali when in need.
Muhammad saw, to prove to them that he was a prophet, brought his daughter Fatimah s.a, ' Moula Ali a.s and his grandchildren Moula Hasan and Moula Husayn. He went to the Christians and said "this is my family" and covered himself and his family with a cloak.

Please listen carefully and at least twice at time 16 minutes and 35 seconds what prof Hewer says. It is perhaps the most signifacnt period of Imam Ali's life which prof just names it. Up to you to go further with what he mentions. Dr Ali Shariti (1933-1977) describes it in detail.
