If there's a sequel to The Last Starfighter, I'd rather have it named The Next Starfighter. There's WAY too many movies, comic books and video games with the word Legacy in the title.
Sid the Elf ...and I sure wish I could be the one to do it! But when the view count is so low for something I put this much work into as just a teaser, I’m not hopeful that the million fans would even be aware of the effort to make it, let alone put dollars down to support it. We will just have to wait and see if Mr. Whitta can use his Hollywood clout to get something real off the ground. =)
I think the music is really why I wanted to make it! The Last Satrfighter and The Last of the Mohicans probably have the two most iconic pieces of music in Hollywood movies that aren't a franchise or blockbuster. Btw... love your name. Johnny Five is Alive!!!
Well done, gave me the chills for sure! Starfighter was such an awesome movie I'm really surprised it hasn't been remade. An awesome scene for a sequel would be dusting off the old machine in a warehouse and booting it up...and then the music.
Could you develop this more? I have always been one to shoot down any mention of a remake of The Last Starfighter. Hollywood keeps ruining everything it remakes. But this has a new story. A new beginning with a anchor to the original. Not to mention a soundtrack that moves all who love it.

Now that hope for the sequel seems to be crushed, I'm tempted to finish my own feature screenplay sequel and maybe pursue it as a graphic novel or pitch as a short series. There's SO much potential, it's a shame that the Last Starfighter legacy may die. =(
That's very likely. But Gary Whitta is working on it with the original writer! I have a treatment for a sequel I'd love to put in front of them, but they are pros. I'm sure it is in good hands. It will all come down to the Director. I really hope they choose someone with the right sort of sensibility. Maybe the Duffer Brothers who directed Stranger Things? They've got the right vibe and I think they understand the connective tissue that makes 80's films fantastic!
This is a great start. Needs more even in the trailer. I always envisioned it would be single mom Maggie (Cathy Stewart) because Alex (Lance Guest) is on Rylos rebuilding the Star League. Like you, I would have built it around the child of Alex and Maggie, but I would not have revealed Alex was off planet. Instead, I wrote that he sends a game disc for a modern platform (PS4/5 or Xbox One) to his kid (probably a boy because they play more video games on average). The "starfighter magic" is in the kid too and down comes Centauri (Neil Patrick Harris) to get the kid to take him to Rylos. How come Centauri is young? You're on Rylos my boy, stop thinking like a human. From their it's the homecoming of Alex and Maggie, and Lewis who went to help his brother rebuild the Star League as well. Now it's his son's turn as Xur is up to his old hijinks again. This time, there is an armada of Rylosian Gun Stars and battle cruisers gainst a fleet of Zandozan mercenaries. What kind of secret weapon will win the day this time?

This is a really cool fan trailer. I always thought that a well-done second movie would be awesome. i loved this movie.. underrated story/concept and for the time pretty darn good effects.
I’ll always hold out hope for a continuation of the universe, but after watching the original film creators explain the situation of the movie rights, while at a reunion screening, it doesn’t seem likely. Basically, it’s out of their hands but they would return for another project if given the chance. Great concept teaser, by the way.
I doubt it'll happen, the OG cast were in their 20s in the movie, they'd be in their 50s now, they could even be dead for all we know (drugs, accident, suicide, health problems).

I think it was lightning in a bottle for sure, but it is also a film that will be forgotten (like Goonies or Flight of the Navigator) if it doesn't get a sequel. No remake though, I agree. Just continue the story for the next generation to enjoy. =)
