  • Hi and welcome back to the channel - Today we are in Space Engineers and we are going to build an automatic solar panel tracker which will track the sun and give your solar panels the optimal amount of power whilst the sun is out
Not only does it look great, it also works really well by keeping your solar panels facing the sun to provide optimal power to your base.
You can start off small with a single panel and add more panels later as your base expands.
So we are going to start by creating a small base for the solar panels to go on, I do recommend having a battery so we have a little bit of power.
We are going to build up to create a small tower and on here we are going to place a rotor with a hinge on top. We are going to go two blocks up so we have something that looks like that, I always say two blocks because it just works nicer
We are going to come out a bit. Obviously when you're just starting out you're not going to have enough resources to do this but you can start small and build on it.
We are going to get some solar panels, spin them around, there. One there and one there.
okay so we have something that resembles a little solar grid.
Next what we're going to do is place a camera at the center point of this, just like that.
We are going to go down, place this custom turret controller at the base of the power.
Open it, go down and assign an azimuth rotor, this in this case is the rotor. The elevation rotor is going to be the hinge. Set the camera to camera. Scroll down and set to "Always aim at sun"
Go onto the hinge and rotor and enable "Share inertia tensor"
We can see that the solar array is now tracking the sun
So there we have it, an automatic sun tracking solar array! If you've found this video useful please let me know in the comments section below and don't forget to like and subscribe. As always, I'll see you in the next one!
