Please define "crazy".
I was hiking in the desert a little ways outside Phoenix when I stopped for a break on a little hill and while sitting there I kept hearing what I thought were distant voices even though absolutely nothing or no one was around. I followed the sound and found a small ventilation pipe with a triangular cap at the top sticking up out of the ground basically in a little bush. It was painted brown. I dug down near the base of it and seem to hit some kind of roof and I could hear voices just barely coming from the pipe but there was no roads or anything leading to the hill or any signs that would make you think a building was in the hill. I tried going back about a year later but can't remember where it was exactly.

To think how ready the Soviets were to a nuke fight is terrifying.
The US was very ready as well, you should look at some of the massive nuclear silos built during the cold War
We were just as prepared, only difference is our bunkers are still occupied and maintained. So naturally they are still kept secret.
My area has a few small bunkers that where made for this but have now got turned into Tornado/Storm shelters.
Major takeaway -- I was 11 when "that shit was delivered" --- we and our elders lived under a HUGE shadow of nuclear apocalypse that you youngers perhaps don't get the vibe off. And here's a novel factual thing: POTUS Ronald Reagan and is secretary of Defence Cap Weinberger (Republicans, and opposed by Biden and his mates all the way...) AND Margaret Thatcher (Conservatives/Torys) launched a strategy to vastly overtake the USSR (the Soviet Socialist Republics) militarily - over a TRILLION dollars from 1981 or so on, and this essentially 'broke the USSR'. When I was in college I had a part time job with the university library. One day I was asked to go down in the basement and locate an extra cart. I had trouble finding one and during my search I opened a door to a stairwell that led even deeper underground. I was so curious about what was down there I went exploring. What I found was a nuclear fallout shelter but in addition to that a microfiche library. There was row after row of cabinets filled with microfiche (essentially these are documents that have been photographed and stored as negatives on a spool of film). The interesting thing was the cabinets were labeled with various technological categories. It was obvious that the library was an attempt to preserve all sorts of engineering documents - everything from steam turbines to airplanes. I would guess the library stopped being maintained sometime in the early 80s given the technology that was in the room. The amount of money and time that went into creating that library was mind boggling. But people really did believe that nuclear war was going to happen back then.

The vials in the yellow boxes are 'manual' chemical, biological, and radiation detection kits. The first gizmo looks like a battery operated radiac kit (Geiger counter). You blazed by most of the stuff too fast, but for the most part all the boxes would have contained charcoal filled suits, gas masks, gas mask components like charcoal filters, UV lenses for the masks inner shoes to fit over combat boots, over boots that are rubber are for decon. Cloth liners for gloves and boots might have also been in there. There were decontamination kits that may have been for gas attacks. This would have 2PAM chloride/atropine injectors. They come with 'wet wipes' that have an acid in it (Like a mild HCL) that removes layers of skin so that you can put your gas mask on after a gas attack. Not sure why linoleum knives are down them. Most of the materials look like military hardware, instead of civil defense... and that would mean that you MIGHT HAVE BEEN on a military site... and the guys escorting MIGHT HAVE BEEN former soldiers who pulled guard duty there. I'm guessing they're in their 20's so, they MAY HAVE pulled duty there in the last 5 years. Looks like a lot of lanterns have been pilfered, I bet they fetch a nice price on E-bay. Wow that was crazy. No way I'd go crawling into that pipe. Kind of a pity they had to rush through, I would've liked to know more about what was stored in all those boxes. It bothers me a bit to see such a stockpile of equipment unused and left to age. :-(
Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it 😁
There is no other way. Taking the stuff out (while it is still good) will make the bunker UN-USABLE [ there was a serious risk of nuclear war from when it was built in 1971 to 1991 ]. By the time the USSR shattered into Rusia & "others" (making WW3 unlikely), stuff was old enough that selling it out will not compensate the costs of logistics (taking it out, checking if it is safe to use, etc).
Plus an "empty" huge Bunker Complex is MORE potentially dangerous than one still filled with stuff [it is an invitation for organized crime to do stuff in there].
Dusk Dawg yes let’s bring in politics in to this
@@adolfodef
Whether the bunker still has old military equipment in it or not will not bother anyone wanting to hold meetings for illegal business there.
Sure, selling it out will not compensate. Let us think about it this way: Let the weapons and ammunition be taken by the government, and anything deemed not dangerous is to be up for sale. You come, you choose, you take, and you pay on your way out.
Would that not be good? :-)
P.S.: Come to think about it, what does the Russian law (assuming this here was filmed in Russia) say about gun-ownership by Russian citizens and foreigners living in Russia? Would it be legal to sell vintage military weapons and ammo to a citizen, like it can be in the US of A and Switzerland?
@Dusk Dawg
Dude, the military forces and other public services have to stockpile equipment and other stuff (especially, in the case of armed forces, ammo, spare parts, and all things needed to operate, be it just for training). That is called being farsighted.
That is in English called 'Ptyrinka", as he said in the video, it is a bunker originally planned in the 1940s but only completed in the 70s and has been abandoned since. My grandfather worked a city over on another project, they were very proud of Ptryinka but they never use and maybe never will
If this ever were used in the case of war, I seriously might consider just going out in the sunlight and meeting my creator, rather than subjugating myself to decades monotony in a dark bunker knowing that all we once knew is gone.
But consider the upside:
Dr. Strangelove: Well, that would not be necessary, Mr. President. It could easily be accomplished with a computer. And a computer could be set and programmed to accept factors from youth, health, sexual fertility, intelligence, and a cross-section of necessary skills. Of course, it would be absolutely vital that our top government and military men be included to foster and impart the required principles of leadership and tradition. Naturally, they would breed prodigiously, eh? There would be much time, and little to do. Ha, ha. But ah, with the proper breeding techniques and a ratio of say, ten females to each male, I would guess that they could then work their way back to the present Gross National Productwithin say, twenty years.
Muffley: But look here doctor, wouldn't this nucleus of survivors be so grief-stricken and anguished that they'd, well, envy the dead and not want to go on living?
Dr. Strangelove: No, sir...excuse me...When they go down into the mine, everyone would still be alive. There would be no shocking memories, and the prevailing emotion will be one of nostalgia for those left behind, combined with a spirit of bold curiosity for the adventure ahead! [involuntarily gives the Nazi salute and forces it down with his other hand]Ahhh!
Turgidson: Doctor, you mentioned the ratio of ten women to each man. Now, wouldn't that necessitate the abandonment of the so-called monogamous sexual relationship, I mean, as far as men were concerned?
Dr. Strangelove: Regrettably, yes. But it is, you know, a sacrifice required for the future of the human race. I hasten to add that since each man will be required to do prodigious...service along these lines, the women will have to be selected for their sexual characteristics which will have to be of a highly stimulating nature.Russian Ambassador: I must confess, you have an astonishingly good idea there, Doctor.
Init place looks boring af
That’s a dark way to look at it bro
You would at most stay in there for a month or two depending on how fcked up the world is. Most high energy fallout particles would decay relatively quickly. Tho what's left would still be a high cancer risk, it wouldn't outright kill ya in days anymore.
You wouldn't stay down for decades, there wouldn't be enough water.
It’s mind blowing that these places are all just out there slowly aging away
There's some weird shit out there all right. When I was working overseas for the U.S. military we had a lot of comms "stuff" we had to work on in a lot of underground basement/bunker facilities.
Most of them were originally built by Nazis during WWII and a *lot* of the telecoms cables we used were originally laid by Nazis. A lot of the wall boxes and doors in these bunkers still had swastikas on them. No one ever bothered to cover them up because almost no one went down into them except to troubleshot a rare telecoms issue.
The U.S. military has long since abandoned most of their facilities in Germany but those bunkers are still there.
And if you can't tell by now, the more east you go into former the Soviet Union, the stranger things get. Man, we Americans really had the Russians on paranoia overdrive.
Wow great insight for a history nerd like me
