Kofi, it is not only the rich…the rich have popularized it. Ordinary people play it. It seems an elite game because we cannot afford it in Ghana and we do not have national play grounds.
Unlike soccer which can be played in any space, golf needs good infrastructure. Even the club is expensive. It is not for business. It is about social class because when it introduced in Ghana the whites made it exclusive to themselves.
Even tennis, in Ghana it used to be elite game because it is expensive and the infrastructure needs to be there. It was exclusive. When you get outside Ghana and in certain communities the infrastructure is there and ordinary people play it.
Golf is not for the rich. If the state can build the pitch, people will play it ordinarily. I am not rich but my friends invite me but I have not interest in it.
Just like swimming, you need certain infrastructure. So is basket ball. Soccer is common because even without the right infrastructure you can enjoy it.
Rich people can have their business connection in any expensive resort. In any game, after playing you connect with the opponent
