I'm so sorry for Barba, i truly am.
I really never hated his character, I actually really loved his character but with Elliot back we all know that the Barson will not be canon for two reason: one, Elliot is back and it's finally single and two, fans have been waiting sooo much time for having these two canon.
I'm truly sorry for the character because now it's the Olivia of the relationship: think about it, he's truly in love with her but because her heart it's already taken he'll be never be with her.
He'll be never as important as Elliot was in the past.
