Pretty sure this is 3 years out of date, but at 44:58 did JC Tao pay for Obligator's ability with a Steam Vents and an Eye tapping for black? If so, that's an illegal move as he doesn't have the colorless Mana for the Obligator cost. He would've had to use the Cavern instead but apparently did that for the red mana instead.
Technically, if JC used the Steam Vents for the R, then the Eye (Urborg-B) and Cavern (C) for the Activation, it would have still worked out the way it was intended.
This is an old comment, so forgive me if you no longer care, but Jiachen 6 lands (including the Eye of Ugin for black mana), sacrificed a Scion, then played a 2nd Eye of Ugin from hand, and sacrificed the tapped Eye of Ugin due to the legend rule. With has 7 mana that he made, Jiachen activated the untapped Eye of Ugin for it's ability. They also explain that immediately during the match.
+The Cynical ME Prior to this pro tour Modern had been very diverse after the ban of splinter twin. Here's to hoping people either find a way to beat the deck because I think it would be a shame to ban even more cards. Makes me wish Modern had a restricted list so that cards like Eye of Ugin can be dealt with without completely removing it from the format as a one of wouldn't be game breaking like 4 in a deck can be.
+AnsticePalo one of the advanteges of running new strategies is that people don't have adequate hate in their sideboard for it, yet. there's nothing that screams "OP" to me about these decks. they're strong, but not unfair. the meta will acclimate to this pretty quickly.
Thought-Knot Seer Costs 3 Mana plus 1 Colorless ( (3)C ). He has 1 Eldrazi Temple, and 1 Eye of Ugin on the field. Eye of Ugin states "Colorless Eldrazi spells you cast cost (2) less to cast. This effectively changes Thought-Knot Seer to cost (1)C. The Eldrazi Temple states "Tap: Add (2) to your mana pool. Spend this mana only to cast colorless Eldrazi Spells or activate abilities of colorless Eldrazi." This pays the 1 Colorless requirement, plus the 1 any color.
+Jonathan Chute I guess this makes sense but I didint think that eldrazi temple tapped for (c) wastes (colorless mana) thag it only payed 2 generic bit i guess it makes sense
Jason Woll I know this is all late but waste is just another term for colorless mana you don't really need a waste to cast smasher or thought knot seer you just need a colorless source of any kind

At 45:03 when JC Tao targets the Matter Reshapher with the Obligator's EtB effect, then pays B (off Urborg) and U or R (off Steam Vents), isn't the mana payment insufficient? The ability costs 1C - he tapped his Cavern of Souls, which produces colorless mana, to pay for the Obligator itself. LSV wasn't strictly dead there.
at 2:50 why didn't lsv just wait until JC attacked with the mimics and the reality smasher to play his dismember? That way he would have been able to kill all 3.
White guy in his 40 somethings really needs a shower. Look how greasy his hair is. Unhygienic players like him give a very bad name to an otherwise interesting card game.
UsernameUnidentifful Says the guy with gaming videos yes. I'm a software developer by trade, so naturally worlds will collide. Onto your piss poor effort at trolling though, the guy 'bringing' the game down is the legend LSV, but you already know that. Still 1/10 even with the reply
I love how it takes less than 90 seconds to show why Eye of Ugin got banned.
Man, I remember playing modern during the OGW era and it was not fun lol
@@yungskeleton-wotvffbe8939 Same, I was still sad over the loss of twin and seeing Modern get ran over like this was the sad icing on top
Hmm... eldrazi winning the pro tour is pretty much against the flavor of the lore.
this is to tru😅
+Kevin Croake well, the eldrazi are winning on zendikar, so why they shouldn't win the pro tour as well
Blue Moon winning would not have any lore.
+Vladislav Velkovski the eldrazi lost dude
Garruk The Slayer
that story was not published at the time :)
R.I.P Modern you was the best format.

They talk about that at the start of the next match. Head judge issued a warning for that since they couldn't go back and redo that.

I love these Eldrazil decks.
Pretty sure eye of ugin is going to get banned
Wait, I thought this Protour was supposed to be Modern? Hah, I kid, excited to see how decks change to fight the new bully on the block
Im really new in Magic, could somebody explain me step by step what Tao did in 32.20 ?

How could anyone enjoy this Modern format? More deck diversity, indeed.
+The Cynical ME It reminds me of when Arcbound Ravager was legal in standard, minus the skullclamp...

Post the videos in the correct order!!!!!!!!
the finals looks a lot like this
So this deck always mulls to a 2 mana land on the play? Seems like more of death sentence with less resources with dismember in the deck
how does lab play thought knot seer at 22:19 without a source of colorless or wastes?
sorry *lsv

Back when Modern was awesome
Coming to the Summer 2024
I think they learned their lesson. Also, the power creep has been pretty big. I don't think we're in for an Eldrazi Summer
why is the quality so bad, no 720p or 1080p?
+Raul Orellana It takes time to process the video dude. RUclips can only do so much.
Missing urborg interaction with your lands is quite common. The winner of gp Vancouver also missed urborg during his match against abzAn
30:16 When Tempest Caller becomes the most broken card in Modern...
9:54 why did he tap 2 lands for dismember? Maybe he tapped gemstone caverns to pay black but the counter stayed on?
Read the card
Damn i miss this deck lol
same
Why do they keep calling him JC?
Why do they keep calling Jiachen Jay Z?
sad that an important game comes down to a crap hand
Why is lsvs voice sooooo different haha
Bruh for real, he sounds so different in recent videos lmao
I prefer legacy or vintage, I consider them more interesting and much more fun. Although modern and standard are cool as well...
Yes Jason is right. The obligator needed colorless for the activation which he did not have. Pretty crazy they missed that. Pretty dirty
When Vargas had his matter reshaper die and gets the endless one, doesn't that come into play as a zero?
If he had eye of ugin, it'd enter as a 2/2. If not he may put it into his hand.
How the endless one die ??
I just played against Jason ina pptq barley lost
at 2:50 why didn't lsv just wait until JC attacked with the mimics and the reality smasher to play his dismember? That way he would have been able to kill all 3.
The mimicking trigger already happened, therefore the mimics would not also get -5/-5
And thes is how Magic became Yu gi oh .... oh God help us it doesnt :(
who ever thought having 2 sol lands and undercosted creatures would be a good idea? unbelievable… it’s like wotc was made of total amateurs
these new eldrazi cards are dumb imo
I'm sad eye of ugin is no longer legal....they should have just restricted that card :(
No😂 I'm an eldrazi player in modern and even I think it should've been banned.
TRAITOR!
It doesn't even matter. The deck is still amazing
boooooooring

Never heard of hairspray or hair gel...?
GameOverCasanova
I do but I know the difference between someone using hair products and someone with greasy hair.
That white guy there is the latter.
