Anime: Cowboy Bebop
OST: Cowboy Bebop OST 1 (1998)
[audio]
Cowboy Bebop (カウボーイビバップ, Kaubōi Bibappu) is a Japanese animated television series. Directed by Shinichiro Watanabe and written by Keiko Nobumoto, Cowboy Bebop was produced by Sunrise. Consisting of 26 episodes, the series follows the adventures of a group of bounty hunters traveling on their spaceship, the Bebop, in the year 2071.
Cowboy Bebop was a commercial success both in Japan and international markets, notably in the United States. After this reception, Sony Pictures released a feature film, Knockin' on Heaven's Door to theaters worldwide and followed up with an international DVD release. Two manga adaptations were serialized in Kadokawa Shoten's Asuka Fantasy DX.
Cowboy Bebop has been strongly influenced by American music, especially the jazz movements of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s and the early rock era of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. Many of its action sequences, from space battles to hand-to-hand martial arts combat, are set and timed to music. Following the musical theme, episodes are called Sessions, and titles are often borrowed from album or song names (such as Sympathy for the Devil or My Funny Valentine), or make use of a genre name ("Mushroom Samba") indicating a given episode's musical theme.

I watched Cowboy Bebop with my dad. We had a touch and go relationship as he loved me dearly but couldn't see me often due to a messy divorce. I never really grew up with him so he often felt like a stranger, but one thing we shared was sifi. We loved Star Wars, Star Trek, Babylon 5 and all the rest, but we also both individually loved anime films like Ghost in the Shell and the Ghibli classics. When I was 17 I found Cowboy bebop and as we shared a love for jazz too it seemed perfect. Little did we know it would be an all-time favourite of ours. We watched the episodes together and spent hours talking about them. I made him a mixtape of the soundtrack to listen to. The last one we watched together was Jupiter Jazz part 2 as not long after he was made bedbound by cancer. In this soundtrack I find the relationship with my dad I began to have but couldn't see to completion. The last song in our shared love for this show was this. I'll always remember this episode and one day I'll finish the show in his name
Beautiful memories that you are gonna have until the last breath of your life !
Divorce laws are unfairly shitty for men. It warms my heart you had such a peaceful relationship with your father regardless. RIP to him.

"I hate stories like that. Men only think about the past right before their death. As if they were searching frantically for proof that they were alive."
nalu paw Faye really was the only person besides Julia who could read Spike's mind 😔😔
The only thing that we truly owe on this world, it is memories so when I looked back I know there's a trail behind me.
Im Sorry your perfect and we aren't
Spike's face in this video was how hard this quote punched me in the gut.
Logiclaly, right before you die, your hardly gonna think about your future. Unless he means men don't think about their past when they are alive which doesn't make sense cos Spike had one eye in the past. I thin most people over time have an eye in the past, when they get handed weight to carry with them in life.
Maybe it would work better if Jet really meant, "men only think about the things they didn't do in their past right before they die" ? Maybe. I don't know.
Kanno Yoko is a genius. I just wish more people knew of her works. A Japanese blues infusionist. Would blow the minds of the West.
Did.
A japanese everything infusionist it seems
Everything she does is amazing. Macross Plus, Escaflowne, Ghost in the Shell. Its all beautiful. Check out all of her works when you can, you won't be disappointed
@@dangowad5368 That's what the "infusionist" part means, she started with jazz and mixed it into other genres.
Not sure if you were around for when Cowboy Bebop first debuted in the US or not, but it was an absolute phenomenon. While everything about it was praised, the music especially had a tremendous impact. It was the first time an anime OST was released on CD through mainstream venues, and not just available through import and hobby shops - or at least the first to have widespread success. Kanno made a name for herself, and anyone who has watched Cowboy Bebop knows her name. She absolutely blew the minds of the West, and continues to for every new person who discovers her music.
"Julia was always talking about you: Your eyes are different colors. I remember her saying that. She said you had a strange feeling if you keep looking straight into his eyes."

Yes, and in the end credits of the final episode, as the camera pans up to view the stars in the sky, one of them clearly fades and disappears.
Poor grim
Cowboy Bebop was quite a strange experience, to me. I watched it for the first time two weeks ago, I finished it some days ago. Usually, when I find something I really like, I start talking about it with everyone I know, I can't wait to see another episode, I cry or laugh, get totally caught in everything the show is telling me. Cowboy Bebop wasn't like this: I watched it in total calm, with no urge or hurry, I didn't shed a single tear, I didn't talk about it with nearly anyone. Then, I finished it, it was okay, a great show for show, nothing more. Now, after some days, I felt a strange feeling: I wanted so badly to watch it all over again. No particular reason, I just feel I have to, just to spend some more time with Spike, Jet and Faye. I want to be with them again, I want to be a company to their lonely lives and I want them to be a company to me. I never felt this way about a show. This is so weird, but now I see why this is a great show: it conquered me, but silently, calmly. Just wow.
You're gonna carry that weight
You're goddamn right.
I just finished the show a few days ago and I literally feel the same way you did.
Dang, you perfectly described my feelings right now. You're right though. Watching the anime makes me think deep about my life in general and how I can relate to the characters in some way. The story itself is not, like, bombastically interesting. A bit boring, even, especially around the beginning. But somehow I ended up watching episode after episode. Not obsessively, like how I get with other anime, but I always came back to it sooner or later. And each time I came back to it, I always realise new things.
They affect you slowly, and without you realising it.
Your comment is amazing my friend :)

1000 years later a group of aliens is crowded around a screen crying as the screen fades out and "Bang". They go searching for our planet and find it empty now. Why aren't we funding this?
Such a depressingly beautiful and devastating anime, with a soundtrack to match. This show is so addictive but leaves me feeling so melancholy and nihilistic. Fucking feels man.
+WhitePony1990 the sign of a good show. Trigun and Durarara are similar in that regard in my book.
Trigun is fire
+WhitePony1990 Amen to that. You stated how most people feel about this series including me.
It's shows like Cowboy Bebop, Bleach, Trigun, and so on that make me respect Japanese storytelling and method. Through it all it's always a journey. Even the "bad" guys have a human side that makes you understand that these worlds are more of a grey than black and right. The reason for me to love the show is the same reason that leaves you empty, Spike. He was such a great character concept and they flushed him out in a way that made you feel like you knew him. The end isn't about his death, but his journey. That's why we can so readily watch it all again knowing just how the end will leave us feeling.
what is the anime, and where can I get a hold of it?
Just watched “Jupiter Jazz” for the first time today. I kind of interpreted this piece as Gren’s spirit playing his last solo, only to be carried away to the afterlife when the tribal music takes over. The two converge almost like his spirit trying to have one more solo but is eventually drowned out by the drums and choir
It's amazing how this song reunite us in this path of watching the anime
Look at my eyes, Faye. One of them is a fake because I lost it in an accident. Since then, I've been seeing the past in one eye and the present in the other. So I thought I could only see patches of reality, and never the whole picture.
I had believed that what I saw was not all of reality.
I thought I was watching a dream that I would never awaken from.
Before I knew it, the dream was all over.
I'm not going there to die.
I'm going there to see if I really am alive.
Cowboy Bepop is undoubtedly the greatest work of adult animated storytelling, ever.
@@apiloto3219
Absolutely, i have yet to see anyting else that's animated be even remotely close to Bebop
Confirm it watched any s..since 1995 I watched all Japanese and western animation from Gundam to French one..
@@tahamohammedi5898 Bojack Horseman imo is the only other animated adult show to rival Cowboy Bebop.
You mfs are so dramatic lmao The show is great. But the story itself isn't anything mind blowing-ly good. It's the animation, va, and music that carry the show.
The ending was so sad... When he realized that he had everything he needed in the Bebop. He dscided to confront his pass in hopes of not dieing. He didn't want to die because it meant leaving the bonds he created. In my opinion he did get bonds because when Ed gives him the Pinwheel he tapes it to the Bebop. When Jet gives him his last meal he says it's shit as usual but he didnt mind because it shows that jet always cares for him and tried his best to have food for everyone including spike. Not only that he tells him about julia proving he had a stronger bond with Jet. Then there's Faye when she realized that her past life is not there anymore. She emds up realozing that her new home was with the crew her new family in which she confronts spike and tells him why did you make me realize all of this shit why did you make me see that i shouldn't let the pass fuck with my present and future. Thus hinting that she ended up making a bond with him and it's her acting in denial because she kmew it was literal suicide. And spike ends up telling her to look into his eyes and how he will have part of the past unless he faces it like the other members did. And bang it makes me cry like a little girl because when you take your time to understand an episode you grow stronger to the characters and the more you can relate too in life
@Eric Hartman Thank you👍🏻
Yeah I didn't truly understand Bebop until I watched it as an adult as a kid I thought it was just some cool space show with guns. We really should let things go, accept them and move on, find closure, living in the present is the only reality we have, don't stay in a dream. Beautiful comment and beautiful show.
When I was in homeschool (2011-2013), I used to listen to this on repeat in the background when working on long projects. Those years when I was 15, 16, and 17 at home, I got to know myself better than I ever have, even more than now. I cherish those memories. Just school, anime, and my imagination. Discovering who you are is the most exciting and meaningful part of your life, if you get to ever experience it. I'm closing my eyes. In the darkness, a million memories come rushing in...
I'm in the dark days of my life now. These innocent feelings...The way even I was able to feel in those days.

When I was 15 or so I was watching the scene in Cowboy Bebop that this song comes from and my dad walked in and said it sounded like their had been a loss. He was of course right. The thing is my dad had just gotten home, and is totally blind. So he hadn’t been listening in, and had no visual clues as to what was going on. That’s how good the score of this show is at conveying the emotion the scene needs.
Wow that's actually really cool, the fact he was right about what the song represented
The most beautiful moment of this anime is the ending scene of Jupiter Jazz. That music is so beautiful.
It brings an incredible calm over me, verry soothing. I listen to it in times of stress and feel better.
For anyone watching Cowboy Bebop for the first time: Do NOT binge watch it. It wasn’t meant for that. It’s meant to savor. You need time to think about what just happened after every episode. People these days love binging shows, and when they watch bebop they ask “what’s the big deal?”. In today’s day and age where people can literally watch a show the length of Cowboy Bebop in a week, this show can be easily misunderstood.
I 100% agree.
Yup. Im fact you won't understand it at all.

Cowboy Bebop is it's own genre. It is one of kind. Greatest animated show ever. Brings out every emotion out of you. It feels nostalgic yet feels like it is from the future at the same time. Almost like it is connected to everybody deep down.
The show that will become a genre itself.
The end of an era, truly.
The nostalgia this song hits me with is so intense. In a strange way. I start kind of regretting the decisions I've made. The friends I've lost. The opportunities I've squandered. But by the time the song kicks up to the tribal part, I begin to reflect happily on everything I've gotten to experience. The good and the bad. The ugly and the beautiful. It kind of intertwines and makes me feel at peace. Its kind of what Cowboy Bebop represents to me. The idea that your past only defines you if you let it. You're gonna carry that weight.
Great comment man

Yup like most of humankind. Which is why we understand the characters so much and the series is phenomenal.
I just finished this show for the first time, I was scrolling through Netflix when I saw Cowboy Bebop, I had always heard good things about it, so I decided to give it a shot. I was hooked after the first episode, then a couple of episodes in I declared it the best show I’ve ever watched. Thankfully, I decided to pace myself to only 1 episode a day, I’m really glad I was able to stick with it, and not rush through this absolute masterpiece. I’m really glad that I also had never had this show spoiled, not even a little bit, experiencing it blind was perfect. The universe, the characters, the music, I truly loved every single episode. If anyone by any chance is reading this comment section and hasn’t watched this show yet (and hopefully hasn’t been spoiled) , please go and do so, it truly is an unforgettable journey that I am eternally grateful that I decided on a whim one day to experience.
Currently watching this anime on Netflix for the second time and it's still as good as when I watched it for the first time it's unlike any other anime I've ever seen That’s how good it is.
How did they mix this eargasm of Space-like ambient (in background,) African Tribal sound and soothing Jazz Blues (WITH SAXOPHONE) so timeless and so good, is absolutely beyond me.
It's so mindblowing.
RIP Keiko Nobumoto, See you space cowboy...
This art changed me at the most pivotal point of my youth. This story has carried and influenced me in ways that I can't convey in any logical way. It is a brief vision of God, as a memory. This story means so much to me.
hopefully it always will ;)
Exactly my feelings as well. You described them perfectly.
RIP Kentaro Miura. You created the ultimate middle finger to nihilism with your dark fantasy epic Berserk. You'll be missed.
As a nihilistic person i don't agree, part of the ideology of a nihilistic, if nothing matters and has no meaning then is the opportunity to give a meaning yourself to life. In a way cowboy bebop is actually very nihilistic.
Didn't think I'd find a berserk fan here.
I think Berserk started out as an edgy and nihilistic story but it grew along with its author and became one of the most human stories ever told.
@@RubberDuck8989from very early on, one of the core themes of Berserk was about finding your own meaning in life and fighting for it. It just wasn't as obvious at first until Guts actually got enough mental peace to reflect on it and discuss it with Casca.
Kid: A star just fell from the sky.
Laughing Bull: That is not an ordinary star, my son. That star is the tear of a warrior.
Kid: What warrior is it?
Laughing Bull: A lost soul who has finished his battles
somewhere on this planet. A pitiful soul who could not find his way to
the lofty realm where the great spirit awaits us all.
the quiet bass just completes the song
Anybody else want to go soul searching... on a roof top while the city lights illuminate the sky or celestial warmth of the stars at mountain top with the campfire smoking connecting ground to the heavens.... this song has me feeling a certain way lol

Be cool if this one had a homework edit.....(;_;)
+SPRBRD Asia You can just double right-click on the video and select loop. (That works with chrome at least.)
This whole soundtrack just opened me up to a whole world of music.

This soundtrack and The Big O soundtrack are just amazing.

Coty Chandler This series' whole soundtrack was a gateway to fabulous music. Space Lion and its episodes remain my my cherished Cowboy Bebop episodes because of the most ingenious music ever compsed...
Just had to put my dog to sleep, and one of the only comforts I can find is this bittersweet song. See you Putty-girl, someday, somewhere.

this song means more to me than i can put in words. i literally cannot even begin to explain in this comment box why i love this song so much. i cant explain the way it makes me feel, the way it makes me think, the way it brings tears to my eyes. this is the greatest and most meaningful song i have ever heard in my entire life i plan to have this song played at my funeral, despite how many years away that is going to be from now. to whoever is reading this, you won't know what this song means to me, some random goon on the internet typing a youtube comment. i'm real, i exist. i feel this song too.
my only hope is that you cherish this song as much as i do.
Wow your like Eric cartmans more loveable sympathetic alter ego lol great comment
dont worry your not alone out there space cowboy.
Got an idea for you : instead of wanted that song for your funeral, why not use it for your everyday's life?
This is what I do. Sadness, Melancolia, Hope, Mystery...
I feel you in several ways my dude. The Nujabes music makes me feel exactly the same, like all of my worries were just simple thoughs while the music is playing, just minimals emotions. I'm glad there's people that feel and enjoy music in those sayayin levels 💖

This ain't no kiddie show, brother. It's the really-real.
Lost a good friend yesterday morning to an irresponsible driver. Playing this at work tonight in his memory.
He was only 28 years old, and leaves behind a wife and two kids under the age of 4- his son was just born this year.
See you, Space Cowboy. 😢❤🎉
In terms of the soundtrack, I don’t think anything tops Space Lion for me. The experience of it just feels transcendental and otherworldly and fits Jupiter Jazz so much. If anything a whole movie can just be based on those two episodes alone.
Understatement ❤
Listening this ost while driving to home at 3 AM after work, is priceless.
It sounds a beautiful way to back home
Cowboy Bebop will forever be in my memory..

This may just be one of the best songs ever written.
Best track in the OST
I'm tempted to say "Possibly" the best track, but... naahh, it's the best. This damn thing makes me tear up every time, and that's something, 'cause there's some amazing music on the OST.
Adieu disagrees. And if that counts, Real folk Blues. And See You space cowboy too.
Oh, they're damn fine songs, don't get me wrong. CB may have the best soundtrack of all time; I've heard nothing on it that I would skip past or turn off, and every one of 'em hits on one emotional level or another. But Space Lion just doesn't let up.
I'll not argue with others' favorites, though; I completely understand how they can fave up a different tune. Point is, with this soundtrack, EVERYONE'S a winner ;-) Yoko Kanno is a gift to the world.
I don't even like anime that much and I Love this OST>
necrosunderground then listen to samurai champloos OST its sick as fuck
we should send cowboy bebop to space in order for aliens to know that we are a race worth keeping
I don't know man, cowboy bebop paints a very realistic but not very flattering picture of humanity
This a song that makes me, in the middle of the night, just look out my window with the cool breeze blowing and relax. Its exceptionally beautiful and also one of the most sombre pieces of music i have ever listened to. Its the kind of song that meets your sorrows at the beginning and slowly livens up until you leave in a content mood. This is one of the things that makes Cowboy Bebop legendary.
Can you feel it? No? So... close your eyes, think about your life, family, job, anything... Just think, and feel it!
I feel it!
Are you feeling it now, Mister Spike?
This song has so much meaning to it without an lyrics. It tells a story about this world about human nature, about the suffering millions of people go trough, about life, about love, about the infinity of the universe and its unknown forces.
It's like an old man sitting down in his chair reviewing his life and how great it was, he loved this life and is ready to go further...
So many emotions and storys just in this song..
Im pretty sure this song is based off of a song by Robbie Robertson off of his album Music for the Native Americans. The song is Coyote Dance and features some pretty similar vocals, drum patterns and chord progressions
Edit: This is indeed the case which is pretty interesting to see the reach of cowboy bebop in all of its production. We'll never see another anime quite like this one
9y n under a thousand views how’d u know that lmao…it’s a lil too similar….thanks 🖖🏼🫠🍻
If true it’s just another instance of yoko kanno plagiarizing
@@sethcox3872 Robbie is not some unknown, The Band (that's their name) used to be pretty big.

Watching Cowboy Bebop for the first time.
Nearly cried at the end of Jupiter Jazz 2...
This show. I tell ya...
I never gave Cowboy Bebop a chance growin' up.. Here i am 29, and watchin' it for the first time.. I just finished Jupiter Jazz Part 2 and this song was absolutely beautiful.. I slept on such a great anime for years.. The characters, the story, the settings all so well put together.. And i love how they reveal pieces of the characters past piece by piece.. I've been listenin' to this song on repeat for at least 2hrs now.. I cant even fall asleep because i keep listenin'.. It brings me sentimental thoughts and feelins' and a sense of peace and sadness.. Special thanks to all the contributors that made this anime possible..
Jupitor Jazz Part 1&2. Two of the best episodes in this series
Jupiter Jazz I & II is one of the best Cowboy Bebop episode
I looked this up after watching cowboy bebop during last year. I've been glued ever since. The drums, the sax, the peaking vibration.. It's like I'm really in space heading for Jupiter.. Episode 13 is also one of my favorite scenes.. No one can detest this anime. It was truly a divine, story based and action thrilling ride. Later, space cow boy. :-)
I've watched the series all the way through a few times, but I'm guilty of just throwing on Jupiter Jazz 1&2 randomly out of the blue. Such a fantastic pivot in the arc, and yet it stands completely on its own. I'm also guilty of doing the same with Pierrot Le Fou and Toys In The Attic just because I enjoy them so much all own their own.
Reading all of your comments and just knowing that I'm not the only one profoundly affected by this masterpiece is a really amazing feeling.
in the Episode 13 of CB Yoko Kanno & The Seatbelts have made a masterpice of bringing the story of mankind into music...
"modern" musik meets old roots, i mean drums, one of the oldest instruments of people, 100000 years in use
the voices let me think of woman in the first tribe-places in our homeland, afrika, singin to make their work easy, hapy in flow at their work
and you see the way of mankind in space.
Since i heard this song, every time i cried when i hear him.
I say deepest thankyou to Yoko Kanno & The Seatbelts and the director of C.B. Episode 13, Shinichiro Watanabe, for this great piece of human art.
Rest in Peace, Etika.
