- In this online game I pick a longer time limit, 15+10, my aim is to really explain the thought processes behind the moves that I am playing.
Hopefully this will help you understand better the way I think, and the way Grandmasters approach the game.

Hey Simon! I don't know if you read the comments, but I just wanted to say that your videos have been an absolutely huge help to me. Explaining how a grandmaster sees the game in a way that a 1700 player like myself can understand is an amazing talent that you have. I have been noticeably improving my game since I started studying with your videos, and many people in my local club have noticed my improvements too.

two rooks are usually better than a queen but i often feel that it's hard to calculate all the tactics available for the enemy queen especially under time pressure
i'd take a queen + stockfish over two rooks any day lmao

Damn, 2500 does seem like a mountain now. Do not know which mountain though. Perhaps the Olympus Mons in Mars? That is nearly 21,229 m high! Happy climbing.

SIMON, I just got to London and I want to explore some of the chess world here. Any ideas of good shops or areas to play old-fashioned outdoor chess?
The chess and bridge shop on Baker St has outdoor sets. There's a few casual nights in London too. Check out the Casual Chess Cafe
Its so sad to see him blame himself after this loss, while he played (I think) really excellent chess. His mindset to keep on pushing instead of bailing out for a draw is what I admired him for in this game.

Well, what can you do. It was instructive as always.
Thing is: over the board these 2000 rated Rambo players bullying a GM do not exist. Only internet players trouble GMs like this. Ok, it happens but on very very rare occasion.
Really like these long play videos where you can play good moves, without blunders, while discussing the options and thought process.
Maybe instead of playing random opponents you could play another youtube gm? That would eliminate engine usage and provide commentary from both sides of the board.
I wonder how much you were playing against yourself if he was tuned into the live broadcast,he seemed to make a lot of the moves you were suggesting.

I don't see the cheating. He made mistakes and also threw away a winning position once or twice. A 2000+ player is perfectly capable of beating a chess master. But then, I'm not a cheat detective.
Hopefully, in the near future you could put together a play list of confirmed non-engine long games? Also, would it be possible to include PGNs in the description? Thanks again for all of your efforts in bringing chess to the RUclips public.

Do you cover 1. d4 e6 and 1. d4 c6 on the DVD? The c6 move especially is quite annoying due to early Qb6 ideas without d5.

Around 23:00 in the video why not rook to e4 if he takes with the pawn he's blocking his bishop and that's his main threat gone and you can take the rook with the bishop next move. Looks pretty safe to me.

Have to admit this cheater was far better than the others. But Bxg3, Ng4, Re8 and many others are engine moves.
In this game he used engine carefully, but look @ his other game - our cheater played vs another cheater (that was banned later) and won! The second cheater thought he can afford one move from his own brain, but was panished immediately. Here the game, almost all moves from both sides are stockfish first line (depends on depth), 9 centipawn average loss (better than "average" top gm) game is here: lichess.org/CMCO9jp2
It is too easy nowadays to accuse someone of cheating without real proofs.
Some are just natural moves
Why would he just use the engine for those moves? I mean, I guess they could be moves he learnt from an engine - using Analysis. Which is no different to what Simon does when he's researching lines.
Zwish King agree all of them are natural moves. For engine. No player will open the h file towards the king by taking Bxg3, or trap his knight on g4 or instanly calculate the Re8. All those moves played instantly, but in fact requiring deep calculation.
Um... Re8 wasn't instant, and a couple odd moves doesn't mean anything. Sure they were played fast, but that doesn't mean he knew they were good, peraps, when rushing, they didn't think about the unappealing repercussions. Perhaps, at first, they too might've thought these to be mistakes, and faced palmed after releasing the mouse... Of course you could be right, do you have any more concrete statistics?

I actually am certain he's not a cheater. His exchange sacrifice is extremely dubious (he had a clear refutation of Simon's plan which he would have played had he used an engine). He just found one nice tactical shot with Re8, which is not that complicated with a forced draw if Simon doesn't sacrifice the queen. Afterwards, he still commits lots of inaccuracies in the queen v rook+rook endgame. Unfortunately, the world of chess has two problems to deal with: cheaters and witch hunters.
Not to mention he also missed a clear win in the q v r+r endgame
Despite your doubts, the player was banned for violating fair play policy only one month after playing against the ginger gm. with an average cp loss of 0.23 and 71.7% top suggested engine moves, the data is very telling of the integrity of the banned player. it was only after ginger gm was an exchange up that he turned around the situation (and likely turned on the engine). With all this information currently, it is harder to believe he didn't cheat.

Hey Simon, I love your work. I have to say frankly as a devout fan that I believe you underestimate a lot of untitled 2000 players at this time control, which may have led you to play for a win a bit too hastily here. I'm a rapid player on the site and can say that from around 1800 on up, there are some very strong players (not all cheaters either), some of whom may have never played in a live tournament: I never have. All that said, I understand that you're a GM! :)

I know im a bit late to this party, But what I dont get is why the Queen sack. The way see it bishop take rook. then Night goes into fork with queen and rook. I dont see the issue. King could have gone to D1 if knight take rook queen takes back, night take bishop queen take other knight. I chess notationBxRe8..Nd3, Kd1..Nxe1, Qxe1..Nxe8, Qxe8.. from there advantage white. So why the Queen Sack what am I missing as I dont see it. the Pin on the queen could have been blocked by the pawn. so no real threat. Enlighten me here as I just dont see why
If Kd3+ and Kd1 black can play nxb2+ which leads to a perpetual with the king moving between d1 and c1. If you try to get out of the perpetual playing Kb1 or Kc2 black plays nf4+ and picks up the queen, the position is still two rooks vs the black queen but white will have a vulnerable king because of the pawns black has on the queenside.

I love your videos and your enthusiasm, Simon. I don't know if your opponent cheated, I certainly hope not, if so I hope it doesn't destroy your confidence in Online Chess! Chess.com seems to have a conflict of interest in banning cheats due to the subscription infrastructure, but lichess.org has even banned titled players recently found to be cheating. Maybe in future this may be an idea. I know it would be difficult due to your affiliation with Chess.com, however it seems they aren''t taking paying members Cheating seriously due to the revenue created.

I was thinking that but then black can play Qe7, if Bxg6 then hxg6, after Qxg6+ (check) then black can play Qg7 blocking the checkmate and offering a queen exchange - which will favour black due to being material up. It's a great idea and if black ever moved his queen away from being able to block, then it would lead to a checkmate. Overall this is a great idea against lower rated players but when playing on higher levels it's a waste of tempo and the queen is far better on e2. Hope this helps :)

you sacrifice bishop or knight for positional advantage for your pawns, had a game like that a couple of weeks ago where i had 2 pawns pushing to the other side with my king behind them, ending up with a check mate ;)

it shouldn't matter if he wins or loses. it's for instructional purposes. plus, he does run into quite a few cheaters so what do you expect?

Simon was winning when he had the exchange +1,5 according to stockfish.
And after that the player's moves were perfect. The queen vs 2 rooks endgame requires a lot of calculation.
Not perfect at all, he actually missed a clear win (but Simon slipped again) and before that he committed lots of inaccuracies.
stockfish actually takes a couple more seconds sometimes until it figures out the best line so when under time pressure you gotta just pick the first suggestion that seems well enough
you might be surprised then, to find that his account was banned one month after playing against the ginger gm for fair play violations. he had a 0.23 average centipawn loss and 71.7% of his moves were an engine's top suggested move. This data is very telling of the integrity of this banned player.
