    I just ran across your videos a couple of days ago. And I've enjoyed watching them a great deal. In another one of your videos you mentioned that you live in or near Cresson Pa. That brought back some memories for me. In 1972 when my Wife and I were just starting out I worked for 84 Lumber in Cresson on Rt. 22. It's a beautiful area of Pa. I live in the mountains of North Central Pa. now but I'm considerably older now. God bless you and keep up the good work. And I also have a Tundra. Great truck.

    I purchased a HS928 fifteen years ago today. If I have any advice for someone considering a Honda snowblower here is what I can tell you.
    I researched several brands before I chose the Honda. Other than the Yamaha, none of the others matched the Honda for build quality and features. ie: track drive and adjustable bucket height on the fly. I just had a hard time getting past the high price of the Honda. It was around $3200.00 Canadian dollars back in 2004.
    After 15 years, I have had zero problems or regrets getting the Honda. (Knock on wood). I know the high cost is hard to get past, but if you have the dough, go for it

    I live outside of Boston and we get major storms all the time, although this winter has been mild so far. Three years ago I was out killing myself after we got 3 feet of snow, even as I used my snowblower. It would take me hours to do a driveway a little bigger than yours and I would be all covered in snow, soaked to the bone. I said that's it and came in and told my wife I am getting a Bobcat. She said what is a Bobcat? Fast forward 3 winters later and now snow removal is fun. I found a dealer who sells really good trade-ins at a fair price. I used to use them all the time growing up when I worked construction, so I knew what I wanted and how to operate them. It was one of the best moves of my life. Snow kills people. Every year people drop dead of a heart attack shoveling snow, especially the heavy wet stuff. Nice video sir. Great commentary. I applaud your use of equipment to tame mother nature. Using a tractor or other piece of equipment turns a nasty dangerous chore into fun.

      JW bobcat as in the brand? Do you have a tracked loader skid steer or a bobcat tractor?

      @McCready12 5 лет назад

      Bobcat 742B skid steer loaded with wheels not tracks. Just a bucket no plow or snowblower. It was a beast in last week's 14 inches of snow. It put the fun back into snow storms. And unfortunately another local died of a heart attack shoveling snow. I'm never going back.

    When I was younger I was having problems plowing a drive with a Ford 1910 and a rear blade. Someone eventually came along and told me that with snow you want to plow it fast. Rolls off the blade better and so on. Have fun, I'm looking forward to a few more snow days here.

    I've got a BX1860 with a loader on it that I move snow with. The loader adds weight to the front so to compensate My turf tires are full of fluid. Adds enough weight to balance out the loader. Had used it for 2 years like that and needed the 4 wheel drive to backup the drive. Decided to put chains on the rear. Now don't need the 4 wheel drive so will save some wear and tear. Good video Love the little Kubota it has been a good tractor for me

    Hi Joe. I have a driveway about the same size as yours that I used to plow with my atv. I could plow up to a foot at a time without too much trouble by taking smaller bites of snow like you described. The first pass is the hardest. I always make my first pass with the plow at full angle. The machine is not heavy enough to bulldoze that first pass, you need to get the snow rolling off the plow. You could also start out driving straight out of your garage with the plow at full angle and if you feel like you’re starting to slow down turn off to the the left or right to get that snow out of the way, back up and start pushing again. Like you said, once that first pass is done it’s easy.

    Hey there Joe, your turf tires are better on ice than ag tires or R4s would be. Chains and more weight would also help. Here’s some crazy advice, sell your Honda, sell you front blade and get a front blower for your BX. A back blade would also be beneficial. Gave you a thumbs up and subscribed!
    Keep on tractoring and God bless.

    • @kopplinfamily7529
      @kopplinfamily7529 5 лет назад

      I second Jon's comment. If you watch my last video I have the turf tires with no chains plowing on ice. The only difference is I have the added weight of a box blade on the back and the front end loader on my tractor. Harper dropped a .10 of and inch of ice and then snow here. My BX didn't have any issues with slipping or getting stuck. Get some more weight and tire chains and you shouldn't have any issues in the snow. We also likes and subscribed.

    I guess the 1870 model is not available anymore. I'm going to be getting an 1880 delivered soon - I can't find want the difference is between the 2.

    • @averagejoevideo9556
      @averagejoevideo9556  2 года назад

      The 1880 is Kubota’s newest version of the 18 HP. Kubota made several improvements. One improvement is the loader valve control on the right fender. Another is a quick attach loader if you opted for those options. Also, the new version has an entire hood that hinges up, making maintenance a breeze. The old version is much more tedious. Additionally, the front male quick hitch design is different. And, I almost forgot…the switch to flat face couplers like you would find on a skid steer. These couplers are so much more convenient than pioneer style. Please like and subscribe if you haven’t already.

    My driveway is rather long and on an incline. I've never used a tracked snow blower and I am sure they are great but with V-bar chains on my wheeled MTD 33" walk-behind I have never had a traction issue in the 25 years I have owned it. I also have a 54" front mounted blower on a JD 2720. It has R4 tires and without chains on all four tires I do a lot of spinning.

  • @DF5152
    @DF5152 5 лет назад

    Nice job. I know you talked about why you set your skid shoes at a specific height but, do you think if they were lower you would clear more show off the surface there fore giving you better traction. You could always put something on your 3 point hitch to add some weight aft of the rear wheels which would aid in traction. harbor freight sell a quick attach for 99.00 before the 20% or 25% off coupon. Then a piece of pipe with some old weights for ballast sitting in the quick attach.

    • @averagejoevideo9556
      @averagejoevideo9556  5 лет назад

      There is no doubt that if I set the blade lower it would clear more snow and give me more traction. However, the problem is that if the snow is too heavy and you get too much in front of you, eventually you lose traction anyway and the machine is unable to push it. At some point, you will activate the relief valve in the transmission. Keep in mind, I can't set the skid shoes to make the blade lower because I have very uneven sections of driveway. This would cause me to tear up the cutting edge of my snowplow. I like your idea about the weights for the rear. Thank you for your input! Be sure to subscribe if you haven't already.

    How's she goin'? I see some comments regarding a rear blower and the front blade. That is the set up I have for my Massey Ferguson GC2300. I have chains all around too and I have to say it works very well aside from the fact that you face backwards when blowing, which is not the most ergonomic position. I plow a private road that is 2.5 km long and several lanes. The set up works well. Just food for thought buddy!!! Thanks for posting!!!

      Each tool has it's own strengths and weaknesses. On my compact tractor I run a snow blower on the front and a 60-inch blade on the back. While I use the snow blower for the deeper snowfalls, I use the blade for everything else. It is just so much faster when you only have a few inches of snow. The blade makes it very easy to scrape down to the bare pavement or gravel so the Sun can melt things out bare. It also makes it nice on gravel. I can run the blower, leaving a couple inches of snow so I don't pick up rocks. Then go back over it with the blade and get things down to where it will melt out.
