I'm child free, but am an adopted auntie. I get the kids gifts for birthdays, Christmas. that's it. and I set a firm budget. good for you!

Good for you for setting boundaries! It’s not your job to fund their lifestyle.

I'm child-free, but none of my siblings with kids expects me to spend big bucks on them.

NTA! That is rude that they expect you to do that. I’m just like op. I have no kids but I a nephew and to nieces I adopted as I’m close to there family. I do spend money on them but there families never expect me to go overboard with presents. When I do my brother just gives a look and goes along with it. So it’s rude for family to expect you to buy everything for there kids. I do go overboard with presents but I do because I want to and my brother never expects me to do that.

sadly, so many people feel they are entitled to spend your money. It really is unbelievable.

NTA it’s your money. Why do some people not understand that having children is Their choice and therefore Their responsibility. I’d consider no longer answering the phone.

OP's siblings must be from the Caribbean, because I find from experience, only they would have such audacity to send their son on vacation with next to nothing and expect him to come back with a bunch of stuff; or expect people to send them expensive name brand stuff. Smh🤦🏽‍♀️
Maybe other cultures do this as well, but Caribbean/West Indian folks... Lawd. Smh

No that’s ridiculous. You gotta work in life! Yes, gifts are ok sometimes and even a little hand in hard times. But if someone is starving and you feed them once or twice and they refuse to learn how to feed themselves then you cannot help them.

0:25, AH, so thats the reason his mom threw a tantrum. They told the kid to get the Expensive things he wanted and No Worries, because AUNTI would pay for it, and since they never got Aunti's permission, you said NO and he had to Return his Shopping Spree. She is upset that she was Expected to pay for the Shopping Spree she promised Her Child.

my sister used me as an ATM for years and years and now that I cut her out of my life I am much happier and can spend my hard earned money the way I see fit. She always used my niece and nephew to guilt me into giving her money while her husband is a useless piece of poo poo who can’t provide for his own family.

In what culture is it okay to expect family members to take care of my kids? My siblings/cousins can have all the money in the world it doesn't make me or my children entitled to ANY help/financial support. Like, i have to watch my kids myself and provide for them without expecting anybody but my husband help me and be on board. That's not just disgusting to expect other people to do your own job, it's actually humiliating because you portray yourself and your children as beggars

And who's to say op is saving for future children, house, emergency fund, etc.
If you can't afford children, don't have them.
I had a friend who was going to have surgery and looked at me and said "you have no husband or children; you ca come stay here and take care of me"......NOT

I live in a similar situation as the nephew, my parents are broke, but one of my uncles and one of my aunts are rich.
I usually get money from my aunt for my birthdays, one time she bought me a new MacBook Pro 2022.
I never asked her for anything like that, just simply mentioned wanting to go to the gym, next month, she paid for my gym membership, and one for my mom. My mom was ashamed at first because we didn’t have gym clothes, not even closed shoes.
So my mom tried to refuse, and I told my mom in front of my aunt “look, we are going to have to buy you some leggings, cause if I’m going, you are going too.” And my aunt heard it, I did not even mean for her to hear it.
She looked at my mom, and said “you don’t have gym clothes? What the hell were you planning on wearing tomorrow? How far is the gym clothes store from here?” After lunch she took us to buy clothes.
Sadly, since I’m overweight, I couldn’t find much that fit me, they were a size too small.
But then, my mom remembered she knew someone who sold gym clothes in my size.
So she mentioned going to buy it, and my aunt told her “just tell me the price after you choose what y’all want”, and proceeded to buy it for us.
I love my aunt, she’s an amazing person, maybe a bit scary, but she’s the funniest. We’ve been going to the gym with her for almost four weeks now. I did skip like a week and a half because I got sick, and so did my mom.
Maybe she’s a bit moody sometimes, but she still loves us in her way.
