I knew about Chet Atkins arrangement, but not this one. I've been struggling to play this one on the piano for about 20 years! That third section is tough on piano. This version seems a lot more approachable than the Chet Atkins arrangement, and I'm looking forward to working on it. Wow Andy, once again a first class presentation and so much care to the subtle nuance and musicianship. Your talent, love of the music, and willingness to share these masterpieces from a person of your musical background is a profound gift to all guitar players.

Beautiful. Aside from mastering a difficult arrangement, he plays with the feeling, the soul of Dave Van Ronk. I heard DVR many times in the 1970's. Had forgotten about his Maple Leaf, but it comes back to me now.

It's great to see someone respecting Dave Van Ronk, a fascinating guy who was probably born a few years too early and thus mostly missed a moment when guitar playing commanded respect. Van Ronk's Green, Green Rocky Road led me to play guitar, and his version of Mole's Moan kept me interested. He was a helluva player.

Hi Mr. Lardner. I'm really inspired by your playing! The only reason I picked up music was because I heard "The Entertainer" by Scott Joplin when I was 12 years old. I sucked at ragtime on the piano so I just play them on the guitar these days. I'm 24 now but I have never heard Maple Leaf Rag played like this before so I got very excited for the first time in a while! I'll try to learn this and I'll have a grand old time. Thank you for posting this beautiful piece! Have a nice day :)

I read somewhere that 4 guys got together and took sections of Van Ronks arrangement of this to learn and they finally gave up.......Daves version is the best....nice job!

Bravo! I’m currently studying this piece, Bob Evan’s arrangement. It is interesting to see the differences between arrangements. Tommy Emmanuel once said his technique is based on things he stole from Chet Atkins. So in kind, I herby give notice that I am stealing some of this gem of a performance. Following….
