Thanks so much, very in-depth video that's still useful almost 4 years later. Helped me with the installation, helped me with the recentral setup, helped me with the OBS setup.
Thank you thank you thank you. I was picking the wrong one! I thought I would just have to use a window capture, and then I found this little nugget of information.
I had the same problem but figured it out just now, you actually do end up having to download the AverMedia RECentral to give your device a Firmware Update. After that, you're all fine and you can continue on from 11:02. Also make sure HDCP is disabled on your console.
I bought the AVerMedia Live Gamer HD 2 based on this video. I would like to say, at first I did not install any drivers or software. However the stream engine didn't appear in OBS, I found out that you do need the software and driver installed for the stream engines to appear. So it dose work driverless but not at full quality. Otherwise it seems to be a great upgrade for me from my Elgato HD 60 that looked rubbish in OBS.
At 10:17 the drop down on my OBS doesn't have DXTORY videos 1 2 3 and 4 in it, only AverMedia Live Gamer HD2. When I select it (there's nothing else that says AverMedia in there so I figured EH... lets see what happens) I get the yellow triangle with No Signal. Shooting an email out to them. And here we go.
I actually had a problem with Stream Engine not showing up on my OBS application and it turned out I had to download RECentral after all. RECentral does check to see if your device needs a firmware update and mine did so I updated it and now it works. Sucks that I had to take a few extra steps but if I had this problem, figured I may as well comment here to make sure other people see this to help them out
@@TiffoTv this doesnt help at all. i already fixed the problem or should i say there is no problem. avermedia changed the driver for this card. if you choose YUY2 as video format you'll get uncompressed video in obs.

I tried the steps in the video and I have Video coming from the capture card but I have no audio. I have tried both and still don't have any audio. Does anyone have a fix for this or an updated video with a fix for this?
I've got no sound at all? Only video. Of course I get sound when I choose the avermedia lg2 as the sound device from my gaming pc but then obviously I don't hear the voices when I play xd. How do I solve this?
That's going to depend widely based on your system specs. Plus, I use OBS for just about everything using GPU encoding. I have a super fast CPU so there's rarely any CPU hit
Hey if you use dual pc setup and goxlr mini to send all the audio do you need to use custom audio device or just use that line in goxlr thing from mic/auxiliary device (audio tab)?
@@EposVox But you dont put it to the custom audio device in capture card settings? Only from obs audio tab and that mic/aixiliary device turn line in there?
How would you rate this against the Elgato HD60 pro? I tried the Elgato and ran into some audio crackle issues that their tech support was unable to assist me in fixing due to some sort of hardware compatibility issue. So I'm looking at either this card or the Yuan SC512N1-DVI single channel capture card and trying to get as much info on both cards as possible
Seems like a great video. I just tried one of these in 2022. And had a pretty bad experience so far, I sent it back and got my money back. Tried off & on for about a month to get it to work and could never obtain any kind of decent video recording or get a smooth live stream to work Tried three different high end modern PCs to record on and used a dedicated PC to record from the capture device. Gen12 i7 Gen 9 i9 system and Gen 11 i7 system. All high performance gaming systems with different ASUS motherboards and different chipsets. Went back & forth with Avermedia support via email six times. They sent me links to firmware updaters that would not run or do anything. On all three systems both windows 10 and windows 11 the firmware updater would create a single background process and never present anything on the screen or indicate anything was happening and the process would sit there forever until manually killed. The software (Recentral4) or anything else would not show me what firmware version was currently on the board. Avermedia was unable to help on this, either why the firmware update utility did not "do or display anything" or how to see if I already had the latest firmware on the capture card. Turning off CPU C states in the bios made a big difference but still was not perfect. Still got very noticeable frame jitter (stuttering) and bad intermittent lag. While source video was of course perfect. My version of Recentral4 software (the only and latest version that you can download in 2022 is) seemed to be very much dumbed down without all of the options I am seeing in this video. I also did not see all of the sources from the card in OBS like is discussed and shown in this video from 2017! Performance was terrible unless I turned on either buffering in OBS or turned on compression in Recentral4 And still not perfect with a little jitter but much improved. Because it got so much better with compression turned on- I concluded that *maybe* there was a bandwidth issue with the PCIe X1 interface. Because I could never get good quality with compression turned off (motion jpg video output turned on) in Recentral4 I am half-decided that there is a bandwidth or software implementation/driver issue on the PCIe 1X slot. I tried different CPUs different chipsets/motherboards and different slots. Even tried plugging it into a X16 video card slot. All trying to rule out shared interrupt issues and the like that could be causing this problem all to no avail and no change in performance/frame jitters. I have since sent the card back and got a refund. I'm thinking about trying a different card that has a PCIe 4X interface instead to see if it helps. These cards and software also appear to be from 5 years ago and still being sold on Amazon. Possibly with no real driver/updates support for Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Might be a weird question but could this card also be used to do Skype calls with a DSLR? I'm primarily interested in using it for game capture but it would be nice to have the option =)
It will most likely not show up with Skype unfortunately. Skype needs UVC capture cards and this won't do it. You could kinda rig it using the OBS VirtualCam plugin to send from OBS to Skype tho
It's a bummer that this card is kinda stubborn when it comes to the OSSC, since I wanna record Dreamcast but not only does it not support 960p (Line2x), it also won't play nice with passthru on optimal timings. I dunno if there's any other card that has similar low latency, quality and price range, though... I'm not sure I wanna replace it, it's been doing absolute wonders for every HDMI-supported platform I own and the quality is staggeringly high. Got any suggestions?
Literally the only card at all that can do that is the first Live Gamer HD, and it was a terrible experience anyway. That kind of thing isn't feasible anymore.
So how can you actually play the game? If i was to use PS4 connected to capture card where can i see actual game im playing? second monitor? or can you pull up window to see visual input from console.
With all capture cards, you need to play on a second monitor or TV to really get a usable experience. They have preview windows, but even low-latency ones like this have just enough input latency to cause problems playing fast-paced games. The HDMI passthrough is for you to connect to your gaming monitor/TV.
@eposvox - I don't know about your card, but my hd2 is showing the native resolution as 720p. Can you look into this and see if yours shows the same? Mine is basically up-scaling to 1080p.
Why would you use this for your PC input? But I remember when I ran a PC through my old Elgato HD60 it said the same thing. Hell, even my HD TV says native 720p on PC, but can still display a proper 1080p signal. Just a miscommunication back to the PC graphics driver.
BTW i was right. Their super slow support finally got back to me and there is an issue with the card being native 720p and upscaling to 1080 p causing the image quality to be less than par. "In the meantime we have confirmed the issue and reported it to our product engineers. They will work out a fix soon to reset the native resolution value at GC570 EDID."
Ok, I ask because otherwise the CPU or GPU could probably do the encoding just fine, but I don't how much better of a job this would do or if it would be necessary or if it would be worth it just for that. I don't do console gaming, just PC, so in that case I'd wonder if a gaming capture card would be worth it. It would work with a camera for recording talking videos though and maybe that would be better than the internal recorder. Or, certainly necessary if streaming from the camera.
You can set your resolution to 4k in OBS/XSplit and choose it as an encoder, then record something. What happens exactly? It supports a lot of bandwidth, so i don't see why it can't do it, hmm.
You can't select a 4K resolution input on the capture card though, so all that is doing is upscaling in OBS using either X264 or the Intel/AMD/Nvidia hardware encoder you have chosen in your output settings.
I'm just about to take the plunge and buy a capture card to record video game footage for RUclips. Would you recommend this capture card or the Elgato HD60 pro? Thanks. 🙂
I personally prefer the HD60 Pro. But they're about the same. If you think you might record party chat from console controller, you'd want this, but otherwise the HD60 Pro is my preferred choice.
HD60 Pro is slightly easier to set up in OBS. Elgato's software is better than AVerMedia's. HD60 Pro is cheaper due to being out (and updated/bugfixed) a year longer.
interesting. looks good. i check that is available in April 13.... How is with the other platform since i am learning and got the other platform free. still need to know a lot stuff. but i was waiting for a more driver-less model!
Looking for the best way to record "smooth" 60fps videos with a dual pc setup using nginx and 3x144hz monitors@1080p. In this moment, without a capture card, my recordings are not so "smooth". Does buying this card let me have "smooth" 60fps videos?
They're about the same other than the 3.5mm inputs on the LGHD2 which has questionable usefulness. Main difference is it's more convoluted to set up in OBS since you have to make sure you have the right audio devices checked.
Thanks for reply, because I am looking for something like "KVM display", like output from my graphics card goes to Live Gamer HD 2, and then I could see a image of second "PC using that grahpic card", because that second PC is virtualized (using GPU-Passthrough), do you understand me? :D
Thanks for the video, Epos. I've been watching your videos to get into quality streaming, and I ended up buying this very card. Trouble is (well, a couple things). the video does not simply appear in RECentral OR in OBS (sometimes it does, other times, no). I have to open up windows 10 Camera, press the 'flip' button so it goes from webcam to "other device" (which in this case is the capture card), and that seems to always recognize the console going to the capture card via hdmi. Then I close Camera and open REC or OBS and THEN it USUALLY will now display what's on the screen.... What gives? Any thoughts anyone? 2) Whether I try for the setting for audio device, DIGITAL AUDIO INTERFACE (AverMedia Live Gamer HD2) OR AverMEdia LGHD Audio Stream Engine (Digital Audio Interface) with either CApture Device "Avermedia Live Gamer HD 2 or AverMEdia LGHD Stream Engine 1, in ANY combination, I never ever get sound. In fact, when I use StreamEngine 1, the equalizer bars in OBS don't even register a signal. In Digital Audio Interface AverMedia Live GAmer HD2, it DOES register the signal, but it stays very low and records nothing. The meter does not fluctuate with in game sound as it should. I go into "Recording Settings" of win10 and turn up the Aver Digital Audio Interface to 100% and it still registers nothing. I tried it as default sound recording device and as comunication device, nothing (shouldn't the mic be the comms device anyway?) I'm wondering if it's cause my AMD HDMI OUTPUT isn't sending a sound signal? Actually, no that obviously has nothing to do with it.... Should I have the AVerMEdia in my playback devices? I dunno, this is all very confusing as it's my first time trying to stream. And I should add that i've heard other people complain they can't get sound captured either with this same device. Any thoughts?.
Hey Adam, nice video. Can you still use this card for PC recordings? Would you just run the HDMI to your GPU, and then another HDMI from GPU to the AverMedia, and then another HDMI from the AverMedia to your monitor? I'm a bit unclear on the logistics of this type of setup.
You have it 100% correct! Only limitation that becomes a problem is if you don't use the HDMI for your audio. Then you either need to get funky with running audio to the 3.5mm input or use OBS and set your audio devices there.
But YOU don't have a 1080p monitor and thus trying to do 1080p would upscale and cause quality problems. You can do it, but it's not true 1080p and not worth it.
It's both. Your screen resolution is lower than 1920x1080 so the only way to record/stream that resolution would be to make up new pixels which will be a lot more intensive and not look good. A sandwich with 1 piece of bread sliced in half is not as well-breaded
But when it comes to signal how fast does it show up because with Elgato it's slow or sometimes doesn't show up at all in OBS for me but with the AVerMedia it looks like it's almost instant from your video? :)
The HD60 Pro is low latency - it only has a few frames' worth of delay from the card to OBS. If you're having trouble with it showing up, that's a different issue. The latency on the Live Gamer HD 2 and HD60 Pro were the same.
Just like recording some games and maybe stream here and there , but i also have a nvida graphics card like you said in the video it can run better in the aver media software
alguien sabe si funciona con vídeo cámaras para transmitir en vivo con obs studio? Does anyone know if it works with video cameras to broadcast live with obs studio?
I have the avermedia LGX, it works fine on my laptop with reccentral, but on my desktop only works with OBS, which is ok. Avermedia makes fine capture cards. My Elgatos somehow keep dying on me. I had the original elgato, which died and got replaced by the terribly slugish hd60, and then I got the HD60 Pro, which has no audio at the moment....
The set up for that is just your recording/streaming settings and is no different than literally anything else in OBS - it's not specific to the LGHD2. So no, I didn't waste time in the video repeating things. I have made dozens of OBS videos covering that side of things: ruclips.net/p/PLzo7l8HTJNK_Vgqu1QQ66gaNJKOaadJty

I recently ordered this but when i turn my pc on the capture card turns on then it turns off. Why does this happen?
Which us better this AverMedia Live Gamer HD2 or the Elgato HD60 Pro PCI-e card?
Can I only use this capture card as a webcam instead of a camlink because I use a elgato hd60+ to my PS4????
Yes
EposVox probably could have guess this but of course out of stock 🤦♂️
Thanks tho!
@EposVox, what is the cpu usage when not recording/streaming, when recording only and recording+streaming?
That's going to depend widely based on your system specs. Plus, I use OBS for just about everything using GPU encoding. I have a super fast CPU so there's rarely any CPU hit
Hey if you use dual pc setup and goxlr mini to send all the audio do you need to use custom audio device or just use that line in goxlr thing from mic/auxiliary device (audio tab)?
Yeah just add the GoXLR if you’re routing your audio that way
@@EposVox But you dont put it to the custom audio device in capture card settings? Only from obs audio tab and that mic/aixiliary device turn line in there?
Yeah the custom audio device is purely to get HDMI audio from the card, isn’t necessary if you’re not using it
@@EposVox Yeah okay, thanks😅
when you can't find anymore videos on the card. I like it.
;)
I get a black screen when i use "Live gamer audio stream engine (digital Audio Interface)"
How would you rate this against the Elgato HD60 pro? I tried the Elgato and ran into some audio crackle issues that their tech support was unable to assist me in fixing due to some sort of hardware compatibility issue.
So I'm looking at either this card or the Yuan SC512N1-DVI single channel capture card and trying to get as much info on both cards as possible
does it work with 2 pc streaming setup?
does this card support nintento switch?
How to get the audio on my Headphone? (PC)
If I close Recentral Software to capture my game from OBS, I have NO AUDIO!
Please help
Yo Ghaleon, you can open your audio settings menu in OBS and turn on monitor to hear it
Seems like a great video. I just tried one of these in 2022.
And had a pretty bad experience so far, I sent it back and got my money back.
Tried off & on for about a month to get it to work and could never obtain any kind of decent video recording or get a smooth live stream to work
Tried three different high end modern PCs to record on and used a dedicated PC to record from the capture device.
Gen12 i7
Gen 9 i9 system
and Gen 11 i7 system.
My version of Recentral4 software (the only and latest version that you can download in 2022 is) seemed to be very much dumbed down
without all of the options I am seeing in this video.
I also did not see all of the sources from the card in OBS like is discussed and shown in this video from 2017!
Performance was terrible unless I turned on either buffering in OBS or turned on compression in Recentral4
And still not perfect with a little jitter but much improved.
All trying to rule out shared interrupt issues and the like that could be causing this problem
all to no avail and no change in performance/frame jitters.
@@EposVox thanks for the lightning speed reply! Sounds easy enough to do 👍🏻I'll look into that and make my decision from there =)

Great Video Man! This card can record from TV cables and satellite and the old consoles as well?
What software are you using to record the overall tutorial? It is flawless!
OBS
It's a bummer that this card is kinda stubborn when it comes to the OSSC, since I wanna record Dreamcast but not only does it not support 960p (Line2x), it also won't play nice with passthru on optimal timings. I dunno if there's any other card that has similar low latency, quality and price range, though... I'm not sure I wanna replace it, it's been doing absolute wonders for every HDMI-supported platform I own and the quality is staggeringly high. Got any suggestions?
Is it also possivle to use the Live Gamer HD 2 as encoder for obs?
No
@@EposVox okay thanks :) really helped me
@@EposVox is there a card in that price range that is usable like that?
Thats what I was expecting, I could connect pc and output from card to the same monitor and just switch sources I guess. Thanks for info.
Yes you can do that!
@eposvox - I don't know about your card, but my hd2 is showing the native resolution as 720p. Can you look into this and see if yours shows the same? Mine is basically up-scaling to 1080p.
What's your input source? That's dependent on your video source not the card.
Display port out from gtx1070 to hdmi in on the capture card
Why would you use this for your PC input? But I remember when I ran a PC through my old Elgato HD60 it said the same thing. Hell, even my HD TV says native 720p on PC, but can still display a proper 1080p signal. Just a miscommunication back to the PC graphics driver.
EposVox duel PC stream setup.
BTW i was right. Their super slow support finally got back to me and there is an issue with the card being native 720p and upscaling to 1080 p causing the image quality to be less than par.
"In the meantime we have confirmed the issue and reported it to
our product engineers.
They will work out a fix soon to reset the native resolution value at
GC570 EDID."
So is he using this for HDMI input at all? Does this only make sense for console / camera usage?
It's a HDMI capture card... so yes, I'm using the HDMI input o_O
Can this cards encoder do just fine for 4K resolution recordings?
In OBS or XSplit if possible to avoid their software totally.
No, it only supports up to 1080p.
EposVox Cool. Thanks for the recommendation. I think I'll go with the HD60 pro, as I've already researched it. Thanks again. 😃
HD60 Pro is slightly easier to set up in OBS. Elgato's software is better than AVerMedia's. HD60 Pro is cheaper due to being out (and updated/bugfixed) a year longer.
How do you connect the cables?
To get to play 144hz?
can i use it for webcam
interesting. looks good. i check that is available in April 13....
Sounds like you need to tinker with your software settings first. Either it's 60FPS or it's not.
So this vs hd60 pro?
Which has been more reliable for you?
They're about the same other than the 3.5mm inputs on the LGHD2 which has questionable usefulness.
Main difference is it's more convoluted to set up in OBS since you have to make sure you have the right audio devices checked.
Gotcha. So no need for hd60 pro owners to upgrade really.
I can't find a price on the LGHD2; will it be in line with the hd60 pro?
$209 MSRP for LGHD2. If nothing else, but due to being out longer, the HD60 Pro will stay cheaper haha
Best in to debt video I've seen on any capture card! Plan on ordering it this week!
Is possible to use it with OBS/VLC on Linux?
So far I haven't had any luck with it. Works for a second then drops out and isn't detected until reboot.
Thanks for reply, because I am looking for something like "KVM display", like output from my graphics card goes to Live Gamer HD 2, and then I could see a image of second "PC using that grahpic card", because that second PC is virtualized (using GPU-Passthrough), do you understand me? :D
Ah. Yeah seems like the Linux compatibility isn't really there
That is sad :/ and Did you measure a latency of that card?
I tried it as default sound recording device and as comunication device, nothing (shouldn't the mic be the comms device anyway?)
I'm wondering if it's cause my AMD HDMI OUTPUT isn't sending a sound signal? Actually, no that obviously has nothing to do with it.... Should I have the AVerMEdia in my playback devices? I dunno, this is all very confusing as it's my first time trying to stream. And I should add that i've heard other people complain they can't get sound captured either with this same device. Any thoughts?.
great video, thank you. gonna get 1 tomorrow.
Thanks for watching!
What is the point of getting such card if you can do all of that in OBS or Shadowplay?
Console games, second PC for streaming/recording, etc.
Capture cards are usually toggled at console recording, which is what I use them for :P
Basically it removes stress from your CPU
Hey Adam, nice video. Can you still use this card for PC recordings? Would you just run the HDMI to your GPU, and then another HDMI from GPU to the AverMedia, and then another HDMI from the AverMedia to your monitor? I'm a bit unclear on the logistics of this type of setup.
You have it 100% correct! Only limitation that becomes a problem is if you don't use the HDMI for your audio. Then you either need to get funky with running audio to the 3.5mm input or use OBS and set your audio devices there.
Thanks. It seems like OBS is the better software anyway.
Indeed!
If my screen resolution is 1366x768 should I still record/stream at 1920x1080?
Nah I'd do 720p
Would that mean that my video is only 720p? B/C basically everyone has a 1080p monitor and I want views to be able to watch in 1080p...
But YOU don't have a 1080p monitor and thus trying to do 1080p would upscale and cause quality problems. You can do it, but it's not true 1080p and not worth it.
So the resolution (when in recording/streaming software) is just what I see and not what everyone else sees?
It's both. Your screen resolution is lower than 1920x1080 so the only way to record/stream that resolution would be to make up new pixels which will be a lot more intensive and not look good. A sandwich with 1 piece of bread sliced in half is not as well-breaded
Im glad Recentral 4 is out now it's alot better than Recentral 3 I use the Live Gamer Extreme and looking into this one
u put it to pcie x1 slot?
It's a PCIe 1x card yes
But does it come with a USB record button?
:P
Very interesting to go even higher than the 60 mbps of the hd60 pro.
The HD60 Pro can go up to like 1.5gbps too. I've recorded full 1gbps footage from it. Just maxed at 60 in software like this one.
Would you use this over Elgato HD60 Pro? :)
Nah, I prefer the HD60 Pro. Comparison video releasing in a few days!
Thank you for making this!
Thanks for watching!
I also ended up watching your video on OBS scenes, my stream will be much easier to set up now
Well done very informed review. Thats a sale for me. :)
Does this works on Ubuntu Linux?
No
@@EposVox Thanks for your answer. I already check it by myself. I'm on windows again.
Is it better to use obs or avermedia software?
Depends on your needs
Just like recording some games and maybe stream here and there , but i also have a nvida graphics card like you said in the video it can run better in the aver media software
Will I have any problems if my monitor is 2560 x 1440?
Yes

I have the avermedia LGX, it works fine on my laptop with reccentral, but on my desktop only works with OBS, which is ok. Avermedia makes fine capture cards. My Elgatos somehow keep dying on me. I had the original elgato, which died and got replaced by the terribly slugish hd60, and then I got the HD60 Pro, which has no audio at the moment....
Odd!
Looks useful, ;) Can record anything using hdmi eh?
you didn't show bitrate setup in OBS like you said :(
The set up for that is just your recording/streaming settings and is no different than literally anything else in OBS - it's not specific to the LGHD2. So no, I didn't waste time in the video repeating things. I have made dozens of OBS videos covering that side of things: ruclips.net/p/PLzo7l8HTJNK_Vgqu1QQ66gaNJKOaadJty
