[4.4] What Actually is This Picture of Celestia? | Genshin Impact Theory

  • Hey guys, Chop here! This image of Celestia has been released since before the game was even out, and yet we don't currently know what it actually tells us. In this theory I attempt to explore the image using some real-life references and as such how Celestia, the Abyss and Khaenri'ah could all be linked. Of course, this somehow leads to King Irmin as everything does, but there are some cool possibilities talked about and I hope that you enjoy them and find them fascinating. Chop out, bye!
    I do have a Twitter that I occasionally use and it's an easy way to talk to me, if you ever want to torture yourself for some reason: / chopsensei
    I also make some references to certain videos in this theory, so I'll link them here below if you do want to check those out for further details;

      @@SenseiChop yeah, chinese as language of origin has a lot of other devices (like pronunciations that reference sayings or slang)... and the problem of many symbols that are sometimes not even used in everyday language, so they are much harder to find (if I remember correctly the "Zhong" in Zhongli and Guizhong aren't even pronounced similar)
      Tho if you have a japanese word that's supposed to sound like an english word you can run into the l/r-thing too. Japanese in particular would use a syllable/katakana that is romanized with "r" like "ru" or "re" and that r is technically a mixture of r and l (and a little bit d)
      and to add a little fun fact: barbarian as a word stems from latin for people that speak foreign languages, cause bar

    • @SenseiChop
      @SenseiChop  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@-nery- As far as I recall, the etymology for 'barbarian' is the equivalent of that bla bla sound you mention but to the Greeks of the time that thought other languages sounded like 'bar bar'. It's a funny little change considering how we say bla bla now to refer to mindless English hahaha!
      I had no idea about the Japanese sounds or the Zhong letter being different, that's very interesting! I'm not too sure if Hoyoverse would hint at a 'room of fate' with the 'loom of fate' because of Japanese, but they did seem to name the game after a Japanese word, so I suppose it's possible.

      @@SenseiChop the "room of fate" thing was a pun (which I am usually really bad at) cause the term "loom of fate" should be the translation of the chinese 命運的織機, so sadly no puns in terms of pronunciation...
      thx for telling me about what you know about the origin of "barbarians", cause I never bothered to look for more sources than my latin teacher back then xD
      your theory is interesting for sure, but I am not sure that the "fate" in genshin is particularly good or bad or even made by anything other than Irminsul. If irminsul makes up the human realm or is the reason it exists, then fate could just as well be a prediction by the divine cause of all the souls in teyvat live according to the system that is the human realm, so basically just a mathematical equation based on known souls under set circumstances. The Traveler and everything from outside of teyvat is a new factor, a new variable, that's most likely why irminsul has no data about them. (like the barbarian thing I never bothered to back this idea thoroughly, so take that as a head canon)

    What if "wind-betrayers" refers to Istaroth? With her as the Thousand Winds of Time, and Khaenri'ahns being immortal (an affront of mortals against Time), there could be some connection. Plus there's the Abyss Twin cryptically saying "We've always had enough time," as if there are some time loop or time-travel shenanigans going on with their crusade.

    • @SenseiChop
      @SenseiChop  6 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah it could be for sure! I've thought about the connection in the past, but I don't really know how it would be done. My best guess is that Istaroth has something to do with the cyclical nature of Teyvat, but I don't think that narrows it down to Khaenri'ah enough and I'm not even confident that the cycles are time-related. It seems weird and so does Istaroth though, so it certainly could be!

    Aside from the fact that the manga panel literally looks like the aforementioned prison, it also would explain the cyclic nature of power recycling that goes on in Teyvat as a whole.
    It's a Panopticon prison designed to hold the allogenes that fulfilled the requirements to ascend, they will be used as sacrifices to help speed up the process of healing the Primordial One, since the wound inflicted during his battle with The Second Throne was extremely lethal. The whole thing of "humans being able to ascend to godhood" is just a ruse to elicit the voluntary engagement of humans with the process, which makes sense because only the same kind of energy would be useful in the healing procedure.
    You can see the "oh shit" moment in Vanessa's face when the gates open, with the coming the realization that "the cake was a lie" but by then it was too late. God's in any iteration or portrayal aren't known to be generous especially with what makes them "especial", their powers/that which sets them apart, so thinking they would let an indefinite amount of humans ascend to godhood is not plausible. Furthermore the other minor gods were culled during the Archon War for fear of push back since the PO was now weakened, but he needed the humans because they were made by him and therefore had the potential to help with restoring his full power.
    We know as much about Celestia and what happened during the "Before Sun and Moon" era, as we know what color of underwear Pierro likes to wear. But i really like this theory and it would make things nice and spicy.

    • @SenseiChop
      @SenseiChop  6 месяцев назад

      Thanks for the comment and insight! I do like the idea that the allogenes are being used, because it works with the idea that Princess Mina of the Fallen Nation portrays in a theorised, romanticised version of Celestia.
      I'm just not a big fan of the prison idea, I don't really think it works and whilst I agree that the shape certainly resembles a panopticon, I don't think that any of the interior structure alludes to it. I do think that the allogenes are being used for something, but I don't quite know if that is involuntary or if a prison would be used for it. I also don't know why Vennessa would be allowed to roam freely as a bird, if she was imprisoned.
      There's definitely something here I'm just not sure what hahaha

  • @LumineGenshinCrochetHOLY

    Panopticum is not just a prism, it means constant surveillance day and night. The one in middle usually a guard (maby celestia, fate machine, or tree irmunsul) is allways in the middle, so each tiny room represents a prisoncell or just a person on teyvat, and since the people feel like they could be watched they behave and don't do bad things.

    With the amount of people who must have ascended throughout Teyvat's history, there has to be some job for them. Since we do not see them in the game, and they can't all have died in Kaenri'ah. And weaving fate certainly seems like a grand enough job.
    Although it still sounds like herding cats - too much work, and no reward. But what do I know? I find the whole concept of fate to be ridiculous. To me, predicting the future is just about finding the probable outcomes, and working to avert the bad ones.

    • @SenseiChop
      @SenseiChop  6 месяцев назад

      Absolutely that's how I see fate irl: make a prediction and try your best for what you aspire for! In Genshin, however, it is a very key theme and I wanted to make this to play into that theme a tad. I like your talk about it being a grand job but it does certainly seem a lil odd if there's no reward. I have a feeling that it would be something about saving Teyvat, which is why only those who want to help people and save the world ascend?

      @@SenseiChop Time travel. Fate in Genshin is time running into itself. The past is the future, the future is the past. This cycle is probably not natural, since it has to be guarded by the Heavenly Principles - As such, altering fate could cause the entire timeline to disappear, as cause and effect would fail to meet. “Nibelung’s Ring” - The timeline itself, not a physical ring I believe.
      Time Trekker, a new Fontaine book explored these ideas and showed us how such a fatal paradox could be possibly outsmarted. Everything has to happen, plus something new:
      The protagonist Ciric kills his future self.
      Congratulations, Ciric, now attempting to stop your future murder will result in the negation of your present existence! There appear to be two paths: 1. Death by being shot by past him. 2. Death by the paradox of never having existed to prevent his own murder.
      But here’s the solution: 3. The third Ciric. Look at the ending. The narrator and the one who go back in the past are separate Cirics. One goes to get shot, one lives on.
      Altering the fate of Genshin’s world will be extremely tricky…

    • @SenseiChop
      @SenseiChop  6 месяцев назад

      @@yYSilverFoxYy I do absolutely believe that time travel will come into play once Khaenri'ah is the focal nation. I'm not entirely sure it's exactly the same as time, but I do agree about the cyclical nature lending itself to fate at least somewhat. I can't pin it exactly, but I don't think fate is predetermined by the notion that the future has already occurred and we are just behind that 'present future'. I think that fate is predetermined by the repetitive nature of a sequence, which are the samsaras.
      That book is really interesting! If one Ciric must die and the other lives on to break the cycle, then does one half of a whole have to die and the other live on in Teyvat? Would those two halves of a whole be the Traveler and Abyss sibling? I can definitely see that being how it goes or some variation of that.
      That was a very insightful comment, thank you for sharing! :D

    • @yYSilverFoxYy
      @yYSilverFoxYy 6 месяцев назад

      @@SenseiChop The current timeline in Genshin is definitely runs in a circle. How do we know? Backwards causation! Remember that quest in Sumeru when we helped a painter from Fontaine with a dog, did another Pari quest, and a huge petrified Wenut from the time of the Cataclysm ceased to exist? A full circle. Meaning we’re approaching “point zero” where the world ends, dragons take over for a time, then seemingly out of nowhere Phanes “hatches” and takes over.
      The Traveler and their sibling are a good example, as you said. Only the introduction of a second Traveler can change the course of fate. The Abyss Sibling has already reached “The End” attempting to alter their actions would remove the cause behind the effect. The same reason a third Ciric was needed.
      Istaroth, God of Time plays by these rules too. There’s the Enkanomiyan story of the gardener. Istaroth couldn’t prevent the death of his beloved tree, but can go back in time and plant five others.
      Just like that, it appears Makoto didn’t have a twin sister originally either. During the Cataclysm, she died, and this couldn’t be undone, as it would remove the very cause for the time travel that would occur later. But to help Inazuma, Istaroth introduced another “Makoto” in the past that is Ei. She was always created with the mission to plant the Sacred Sakura in the past.
      Whether the second Traveler is such a clone, or an original Traveler was split into two, or the Travelers were simply separated to have another chance to alter the cycle… I haven’t figured that one out.
      A Descender is an extremely valuable addition to a fragile cyclical timeline such as Teyvat, since they don’t risk erasing their own existence with any action until they run a full cycle.
