I’m new to crocheting. Just made a huge mess out of a skein and came here to find help. Omg!! BEST VIDEO EVER to help wind up this mess. In just a couple minutes my mess is a nice neat ball now….THANK YOU!!! 😊
I'm the designated ball-winder. I'm happy that I found your video - my girlfriend has been happier now that I know how to wind yarn in a center-pull ball. It's not as round and nice-looking as before, but apparently it's a lot easier to use. I'm able to wind a ball of yarn by myself - I sit in a chair and use my knees as the "other pair of hands" in the video. Also, it's really important to find the right end to start with - it makes the whole thing a lot easier. I'm usually able to wind a ball of yarn in three TV episodes, so about an hour and a half. Thanks for your video!
Thank you for this tutorial! I had two skeins to wind into balls. My first one was quite messy and took a long time. I searched the web before I started my second and came across this video. It was so much easier! I am delighted to understand how to replicate the power of the machines at knitting stores at home. ☺️
Perfect. Thanks. I just threw out two hanks just like the one in your video in aggravation-complete spaghetti. I have eight more. Thanks to you I will be able to knit my sweater and not put my fist through the wall. Thanks!! (Though I doubt I will ever have close to your patience.)
Thank you for making this video! I just received 8 hanks in the mail & need to wind them. Maybe some day I will invest in a swift and ball winder, but for now I will do it your way!
Hi Lia, you saved me a lot of money since I was looking into buying a nice quality wooden ball winder with "umbrella." I'd rather make it the old fashioned way without the extra equipment. I'm running out of storage space in my home. Besides, I love that yarn ball is homemade, by hand! Thank you for this video!
I love making thumb balls as much as I like knitting and crocheting from them. Mine have always turned out more like eggs than cakes. I will have to work on my technique although I like the egg shape. Thanks for the demo !!!
I am new to crocheting and I just bought a skein and I was wondering how the hell I was supposed to handle that. I have no tools to help me either. This will make it so much easier for me. Thank you so much. ❤
Thank you for the demonstration! I'm new to this and would have totally wrapped up the other end inside the ball and not been able to pull from the center. So obvious and yet so easy to miss.
Haha “no kitty cats are going to attack it.” I’m looking this up to make a yarn ball FOR my kitty cat 😂. My spoiled kitten is about to turn 1 yea r old, so I’m giving her some yarn balls for her birthday (among other gifts and a salmon “cake”)
As a first time knitter, I found this way of winding yarn a lesson in utter frustration. Followed the directions as closely as possible. My husband and I kept kinda chuckling, as we untangled yarn , saying, “She seems so nice! Why would she tell us to do this?” At least for the next few projects, I will avoid hanks and only buy skeins.
Oh my goodness! I am laughing along with you. This is my sister, who is an expert knitter (I have never tried), so I had to watch the video. Maybe she was not as clear that you need to turn the ball as you wrap? Now I need to try it. lol
Woke up this morning and my husky has taken three new skeins and tossed them around the living room. HUGE TANGLED MESS.... came to the internet for a solution, yours appears to be perfect. Now to get to work...
The "twist" mentioned near the end, is i5 bad if you don't? Because what I understand, is she's talking about the center strand of the CP ball, and I don't know why that needed to be mentioned. So a little confusion there 😅 How do you prevent the entire insides of the ball spilling out when you are pulling from the center? Because I don't use center pull for that reason. Every time I'll be working with one, and a big xhuxk of yarn from the center spills out and I'm left with a mess.
Never thought to wrap around the thumb like that. I usually wrap around my fingers and literally into a ball. Who needs a storr bought yarn winder when you learned this trick today. Not me:)

Wow! She winds it so perfectly so fast!
I found this video today and it has helped me so much!!! I found putting a slipknot on my pinky finger helps to not lose the pulling end
Happy to hear!!🥰

@Ford Paxton no no one does. Please stop replying to me. It’s not the first time. You’re just spamming people with this creepy stuff.
awhhh this is so cute i hope she liked them
Same here🤣
please please be careful with yarn around pets, especially cats. if ingested such as longer piece, it can get wrapped up in their intestines :((
Thank you! I was looking up how to start rolling a ball of yarn, then this video popped-up 🙂
Simple and well explained
Awsome. Few good old tips would be vanished if not on Utube. Thanks for that.
Glad it was helpful!
Beautiful and very helpful, thank you!

Good video! Thank ou.
Glad you liked it!
Thankyou so much. 🙏
You're welcome 😊
I don't have a swift or someone to hold the wool for me haha, is there a household item you might recommend to 'hold' the skein while I'm winding?
chair

Good video!
Thanks..great information!
Thank you 💓
You're welcome 😊
does the ball get loose and messy toward the end of you using it or is it alright?
It stay nicely. :-)
Skein rhythms with rain. Look it up.
Thanks! I think there are different ways to say that word, depending where you are from. ;-)
So…how do you pronounce “skein”? It's pronounced skane because of the E before I rule.Aug 22, 2016 Like "cane"
Thank u
You are welcome!
Amazing Idol material I'm telling you
Lol.. No guarantees on the kitty cat attacking it. Lol.
Haha!
need video when solely winding
No Hank. All Ball.
Good name for an album. 😊
My kitty cats will attack yarn in any shape but I think this would definitely help
Those cats! lol
This is so useful my kids love ruining the balls of yarn
Haha! Happy to hear!
interesting I know the hank as a skein 🤷🏼♀️😅
Sorry to contradict you but the E in skein is pronounced as an A in English.
Simply turn over the chair, put yarn over the chair legs and you don't need no a helper😅
How do you get a person to stand in front of you like this for any length of time while you do this ?. (cheeky). LOL
Haha
Tie your center pull around your wrist. Then you can't loose it!
Great idea!
Ngl my thumb is stuck
Mine did too a bit. I think we just wound too tight
So helpful! Thank you!!
Thanks so much for this video! So easy!
You are so welcome!
Thank you for this!!
You are welcome! Thank you for watching.
