Amazing that the idea for this song came from a man that was down on his luck going through a divorce. This hits so many people in the heart. It’s also amazing that Mike Reid played in the NFL. What a unique combination...one of a kind.

I'd give my left eyeball to have been in that room while this magic happened!! I've been a fan for more than 30 years and seeing him perform sometime is an absolute bucket list item for me for sure. 💜
He is so amazing. I never tire of his music. This song is very special to me; it's my story. I cry every time I hear it. And he performs it to perfection. No one else should be allowed to sing it.💔
How in the world could this song have ever been considered as an "uptempo bluegrass song?" So glad these two let it be, and become it's true self. Incredible song.
So difficult to follow this most interesting conversation! I'm surprised that Mike Reid, who is such a great songwriter, leaves sentences half finished. Luckily the interviewer fills in some of the blanks. Great story about how this song was created and finally finished. Thanks!
How a great song got written: "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Mike Reid with Allen Shamblin. Reid plays his original version on the piano at 8:40 on RUclips. Fabulous. Transforms grief into sorrow, and finally into acceptance. What more can we ask for, sometimes?
Turn down the lights Turn down the bed Turn down these voices inside my head Lay down with me Tell me no lies Just hold me close Don't patronize Don't patronize me 'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't You can't make your heart feel something it won't Here in the dark in these final hours I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power But you won't, no you won't 'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't I'll close my eyes Then I won't see The love you don't feel when you're holding me Morning will come And I'll do what's right Just give me 'til then to give up this fight And I’ll give up this fight 'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't You can't make your heart feel something it won't Here in the dark in these final hours I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power But you won't, no you won't 'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't Performed by Bonnie Raitt Written by Allen Reid and Allen Shamblin
Right: who is "Don?" mentioned around the 0:30 mark, after talking about "Bridge Over Troubled Water" (written by Paul Simon). I see "Don Was... the great producer" at 0:17. I guess Don Was "smoked a lot of herb." This whole interview is fascinating, but so hard to follow! I guess great songwriters don't always speak or think in complete sentences.
He is SO UNDERRATED! GREAT VOICE AND LYRICS!

Amazing football player and wrestler
Been a Bengals Fan since 1975. He played there in the 70's. Great song and story.

The lyrics hits all different emotions.
Mike and my dad grew up together and he used to say that all the time too! "Don't let the truth get in the way of a good story."
I Can't Make You Love Me, what a beautiful song! I love Mike Reid's voice! He is singing from the heart!

Great song...One of my very best favorites, Great Job Mike!
Mike is one hell of a songwriter...he was on a roll in the 80s and early 90s.
Great funny story about an amazing song ❤️

Fine thinking: observe, it’s not inside me. Look around
Mike Reid used to be a Bengal Football player! Those are my guys, win or loose, but love his voice!
Mike Reid was an All American at Penn State and an All Pro with the Bengals. He was one of the best Defensive Linemen the Bengals ever had.
Love that subtle Mike Reid humor ....wish I had mixed that one. I posted several of his circa 1975 live Clooney show performances on my channel.
great song. all credit to him... but.... thank god bonnie raitt and hornsby made it what it is!
vibe vibe

Turn down the lights
Turn down the bed
Turn down these voices inside my head
Lay down with me
Tell me no lies
Just hold me close
Don't patronize
Don't patronize me
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
I'll close my eyes
Then I won't see
The love you don't feel when you're holding me
Morning will come
And I'll do what's right
Just give me 'til then to give up this fight
And I’ll give up this fight
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't
You can't make your heart feel something it won't
Here in the dark in these final hours
I will lay down my heart and I'll feel the power
But you won't, no you won't
'Cause I can't make you love me if you don't

ALLEN REID? WHAT ABOUT MIKE REIR & ALLEN SHAMBLIN~
George Micheal sings a terrific version too.
George Michael 's is the best version ever, he sings it with so much emotion and his superb voice is definitely the cherry on top.
I’m surprised Mike Reid didn’t record this himself !!!
he did
Its on his album from 1991 called Twilight Town. ruclips.net/video/IlA3tMaX9GA/видео.html
Who was he talking about smokes a lot of herb???

professional football player, wonderful pianist, amazing songwriter, funny guy. I HATE HIM!! ;)
Song writers never really tell the true story behind their songs. Except for Taylor Swift.
Gray beard
Dyed hair
Hornsby was right.
