I am surprised at the great shape this body is in after being abandoned and before your rescue. So far it seems like minimal rust, hope your good luck continues, my two cents on rust inhibitor is POR 15
Thanks Mark. The body overall above the rockers is pretty good. Most of the repairs to do are on the drivers rocker and rear near the wheel arch. Nothing to horrendous. Thanks for your comments. Cheers John🍻
You can also use the POR15 paint on the inside of the rocker panel. Be sure to use rubber gloves when you apply the product as it doesn't come off your hands until your skin replenishes itself.
The seal in your water pump would have been shot. I buy them from a local seal shop and the bearings are just 6012 or something close to that. No need to pay several hundred dollars for a "rebuilt" unit. The Front bumper support beams are cheap and easy to replace . the Steel is quite thin so they are bent by idiots jacking the cars under there. Change all of those oil feed hoses because they will break!!. That was me who said the ring gasket Will roll. 😉 Also, while you have the compressor out ,replace the double lip seal between the compressor and power steer pump. If it goes,it fills the power steer fluid reservoir with engine oil under pressure and then it pours out all over the left hand side . it's another cheap easy to source bit. The captive nut things aren't welded, they are loose .I get good ones from W126's. Same part and very cheap if a wrecked W126 is nearby... The original coatings under Mrcs is a PVC. Wurths sell it($$$$) but a better alternative is to epoxy etch prime the metal, then a couple of coats of raptor Bed liner. The Mercedes stock color is Elfinbeige but i get the tintable bed liner and color it the same as the body . It's indestructible and will protect the steel long after we are gone. Thats not a relay out front,it's the alternator regulator .
Thank you so much for the advice. Are you based in Australia? Your'e the guy rebuilding that 6.3. Very cool. I'll be bending your ear for tips. As far as the raptor bedliner stuff you mentioned. Would you use that under all the wheel arches and rockers etc? Then paint over it. I remember seeing you rebuilding the water pump. So your advice is to pull that and rebuild? I will rewatch your video on that. As far as the front bumper support. I'd love some detailed advice on that when it comes to it.Thanks again I really appreciate it. Maybe I'll see you on the facebook group. Cheers John.
A refreshing candid videos of the legendary 6.3! Love these series. Thankyou & fascinating!
Thank you for your comment. Glad you enjoyed it. Cheers John.

13:22 Thats the voltage regulator BOSCH AD1/14
POR 15 paint to treat the areas after you complete the repairs.
Thanks Bob. Is there any treatment that goes on before you box a rocker panel in for instance? Or do you inject something afterwards?
Production total of the 6.3 was only 6,526 units.

Ron, so good to hear from you!
Did that car used to be white John? Engine bay looks white
Yes Owen. Originally it was 050g white. I am going back to the original color. Thanks for watching. Cheers John.
Mercedes do rust really badly. This is not all you will discover...
Yeah I know, I'm finding more. Thankfully the floorplan and inner rockers are very solid.
