My heart broke for Dualla in this scene. Watch as everyone walks (including Anders!) because even they realize that they were NEVER watching a boxing match, they were watching a FIGHT. And not just any fight. A fight between two people who love each in ways and on a level that they'll NEVER be able be adequately express to one another.
I remember watching this episode the first time - when Adama says Kara got married I literally went through the same emotional spiral as Lee does. His breathless 'what?' perfectly encapsulates that way the news knocks the air out of you. I love this whole sequence - the ending with them clinging to each other is absolutely beautiful symbolically and emotionally, and at its core utterly tragic.
Check it out, you can pinpoint the second his heart rips in half. It takes a moment for it to sink in for him.
It’s so so sad. Fucking hell. Wish the writers had figured out a way for Kara to have enough catharsis and self healing to allow herself to be with Lee. They both deserved it.
Matthew Ambrose yessss!!!😩
@@dreamer2260 some people are messed up and enjoy messing with other people's lives. The same abuse she got as a child she was repeating the pattern with manipulation.
This was a stupid episode. These characters have zero chemistry, not to mention that Starbuck is an unattractive tomboy. Her personality is awful too. She’s a great pilot and battlefield tactician, that’s it. Otherwise she’s a complete mess, no sane man would want to get involved with her. I had zero sympathy for Apollo, more like ‘duh dude’.
This show had no business having so many memorable episodes
yknow i love him but how was my man bill adama this oblivious to what his kids were up to the entire time LMAOOOO
Someone brought up to me that Lee and Kara's relationship has somewhat of an incest aspect to it (even the commander himself says that he sees both of them as his children) so the idea that he'd be 'blind' to it works that way.
But realistically Bill would have to be the blindest dude ever like holy shit these two are a whirlwind when they are in the same room
@@errhka Admiral oblivious lol. Yes, people have compared him to Zeus and they are Apollo and Artemis his twins. Two halves of a whole. Kinda incestuous. Someone analyzed the Artemis archetype and how Starbuck is her in an article, pretty interesting. Even in episode 5 I think Roslin is all "Are you particularly close to Lt. Thrace?" she's suspicious. I mean Lee straight up kisses Kara when they reunite did he really hear no rumors?
Oh he knows, man. He so knows. Like, not that they had sex last night, sure. But when he throws the news out there, he's challenging Lee to be straight about Kara for once - and criticizing him for not doing it sooner. That chuckle is like "welp, you never know what Kara's gonna do, and you had your chance".
@@jerodast HUH. never thought of that, man. awesome
No.. he knew.
The first time i saw this episode i didnt really like it at all from the start, just a bunch of people boxing? Fine. But when it got to Lee and Kara's bout and it showed them working through their past, how they hated and loved each other at the same time, how neither made the right decisions in their relationship, it hit hard. They cant make it work together, but they also cant stand being apart. When i think back to the series its not some battle scene that jumps out of my memory first, its this one.
Watching the Lee and Dualla scene I can only say that's the saddest marriage proposal ever seen!!!
I’m watching this series for the first time, I just watched this episode today. I enjoy it as a tv show but most of the characters are pathetic, overly aggressive and emotionally immature. It’s no wonder they, as a species, almost killed themselves.
@@lewstone5430 congrats on understanding a core theme of the story. one of the best things about this show is how human the characters are. how raw, ugly, and emotionally broken they are. it's literally a critique of us.
@@lewstone5430 Almost like having your entire civilization obliterated and being one of a handful of the survivors desperately trying to stay alive while being relentlessly pursued by the same enemy that destroyed everything.... might not be ideal ingredients for stability and Stoicism.
@@queengoblin but I need at least 1 hero damnit! Like the old fashioned kind that isn’t also a pos to make him/her “more complex”. And I love anti-heroes but that’s not what we get these days.
@@TerryBowles-qm3qc that’s fair, but I felt like the characters needed to learn more from their experience, but then they were running for their lives so not a lot of time and space for introspection.
Although I love the show, I'm not sure I'll ever be able to watch it again. I just find Lee and Kara's story so heartbreaking.
this was a good episode. but really painful. like the hurt locker.
The pain... Oh the pain. Great acting. It's almost as if you can feel it inside yourself just from watching Lee struggling.
One of the best episode of the show and also one of the best scenes.
I agree. The terrible things they did, or tensions they had between each other, added another layer to them. I love characters that frak up.
Episode number
In some ways, this IS the most tender, most intimate, love scene of the entire series.
When she married Anders I was so frackin' mad.
Anytime I want to go back to watching bsg watch the end there "I missed you.."
Thank you for posting this. I've been hoping to see that closing scene here for some time.
This episode is personal to me. Had a girlfriend just like that. She was amazing, And everything burned down and did not see her ever since.
Love how the Colonial Trucking Service rolls through the background at 1:09. This ain't no quarry in BC, eh?
My dad’s least favorite episode because of backstory drama. He was like “get back to the cylone killing!”
I have to agree. I'm watching the show for the first time and couldn't frakking stand this episode. Why can't these people just be honest with themselves and the people they love and stop frakking around.
It's the fact that Anders seems fully aware of their love for each other but is somehow cool with it?
Now this is Captain Marvel
MY FAVOURITE EPISODE
Episode no please
Jamie played brilliantly here!
It's easy to see the original BSG cast having this fight over a simple disagreement on a viper conflict about who lived or died.
Looking at the title, I think "sorting themselves out" is a relative term here.
His dad rubbing it in 😂
I cry for scene
These two would have been great on the Walking Dead
Lee married Anastasia to make Kara jealous and Kara married Sam to make Lee jealous
"Yeah.. Yeah!! .. Yeah.... Yeh!"
-Spectator man, Galactica Quotes; 5:55
When it comes to Kara, I have a feeling Lee has plenty experience sorting himself out lol
My dad loves sci-fi shows
Confess your love for someone and the next day they marry someone else. Frak relationships
That's one perspective
Does Anders really don't have ANY antennaes? Or does he just not give a shit?
I think he knew there was something between them, but didn't much care as he wasn't that serious about the marriage thing, and as long as she chose him for the moment that was what he cared about.
Episode no please
Am I the only one that wanted to see starbuck to get fuckn flattened
No
@@AlternicityBlogspot HERE HERE also
no. i hated her for most of the series
She wants to get flattened too. Hated herself.
Lee was obviously holding back. Not taking anything from Starbuck but...
Kara is tough AF and a cunning fighter but Lee just has the muscle mass and reach advantage.
Lee got concussed by Helo earlier in the episode - makes sense he'd be a little out of it
@@errhka ahh... gotcha...
No. He's A little bitch who gets his ass whooped by a little female in a scrap.
@@Tony-1971 You ever been punched repeatedly before? It takes a lot out of you, doesn't matter who's doing the punching.
I feel bad for De and Sam
legend
Saludos

I know how it feels you think your in a relationship and then you have always been the other guy the second choice the one she’ll settle for when things don’t turn out the way she wanted and then your the one she’ll never be happy with.
well just goes to show u can't always marry the person who knows u too well. that would kill everything
No wonder Dualla capped herself... DANG
Harsh but fair
Sorry, I may very well be alone in this, but I much prefer the original, shorter cut of the ending to this episode.
Marries and falls in love with a man she met a day ago. Screw that. Ship "StarPollo."
super
Seriously, these two are like Ross and Rachel in space.
Anh Trieu best comparison ever 👏🏼🙌🏼😂
She is written to have borderline personality disorder. Apollo is normal.
One of the most toxic relation I’ve seen on tv
Toxic and beautiful and doomed and epic, haha I love it.
Only unhealthy relationships make for a good love story. Healthy relationships only work in real life
FOR REAL. so human
@@amberxv4777 exactly. toxic isn't romantic in real life either they're fucking awful.
jerodast not epic, not beautiful, just toxic.
I think the original cut of this episode is so much better than this extended cut.
I like most of the extended cut, but some of it I could do without.
I thought this was different from the original, especially the end there. They used that nice cue from the end of "Under the Wing" when Starbuck gives that knowing look over Lee's shoulder and the episode ends. Haven't seen the other extended cuts, but I certainly will agree with you on this one.
super
After some time Lee Adama put their two kids in a couch and started an story about "How I Met your Mother"
The Humans of the Colonies were not humas as we know it, they were our Greek Gods. Their history became the legends of the past. This is why Kara can stand toe to toe with Lee. They are not normal humans. They are basically Gods (or Super Humans), they are descendants of the Lords or Kobal, other Gods. Their bloodline was thinned out when they arrived at the Final Earth and mated with early (our) earth mankind. A Sequel series could have been made based they are our ancient alien forefathers.
Interesting point. I always just assumed she was big and strong compared to apollo.
@@musikforkveld lmao how? both are trained fighter pilots, hell, look at the battle of the sexes in tennis, a male player who was below the top 200 beat 6-0 the world's best women's players, same thing would apply here
This is why I always despised the characters of Apollo and Starbuck. Seemingly intelligent people perpetually making stupid decisions.
My heary truly went out Dee; she married beneath herself.
I tried to contact you.
Pare of muppets.

no No NO. i hate that this one takes place in front of Everyone! (i never liked the whole boxing..BOXING.) But, damn, if Eddie didn't make that look sexy as hell and the RDM ending cartoons funny af! (Eddie: "Gimme my check!" *punches RDM* 😂😂💗)
Oh, gods Lee is SO 😒. Uhm.. Your collective spouses just saw ALL of that. Sorry, Bear: even your scoring can't get me to overlook Sam's exit or Dee's --fate-- face.
Im curious about the ending cartoon your talking about
@@phoenixthehound4928 The cartoon skit at the end of every episode-where David Eick & Ron Moore try to kill each other? There are two that feature a sketch of Eddie-where he's wearing a tank, trunks, & boxing gloves. He punches RDM. I think it's on the eps he directed?
Crackpot hypothesis: Starbuck was so drunk during her night with Lee that she blacked out and didn’t remember any of it ever happened.
Alternative hypothesis: Starbuck was violently and emotionally abused her entire childhood by a rotten mother who liked to break her fingers; so much so that being unhappy and broken and in pain feels normal and safe to her, because it's what she's used to. She can't ever bring herself to be with Lee because true happiness is so strange to her that she's terrified of it.
@Jesse Berman, omg 😮 you *nailed* it. I agree absolutely. Too often (as the result of their upbringing), an abused individual will make self destructive life choices. Kara’s alcohol overuse/abuse also fits in with your hypothesis; she self medicates her unrelenting pain. Thank you for sharing your thoughtful analysis.
@@feral26 You are completely right on this, and it was very believably written. That's what makes their relationship so heartbreaking. Wish the writers had had the guts to resolve Kara's and Lee's issues enough for them to be together; it was what their character arcs were working towards. But instead we got that rubbish storyline about Kara essentially giving up, committing suicide and giving in to predestination, and Lee becoming inactive, bitter and empty. Such a waste of these two wonderful characters. Ah well.
LMAO
@@feral26 yup this is it
Wae keren tinju peluk
Jesus what a mess.
Kara and Lee would have never worked. He is to much the follow the rules or do the right thing kind of guy. She would drive him crazy and vice versa. She seemed the happiest down on New Caprica with Anders.
They complemented each other, and were good for each other, as long as Kara could heal enough to stop being self destructive, and Lee could deal with some of his self esteem issues and insecurities; something that they could have helped each other with. They were meant to be together but with the stresses of the situation and the twists of fate, it didn’t happen. Will always wish the writers had managed to write it differently. So tragic.
Matthew Ambrose yes 😭
Yet another reason I hate Starbuck, she's the worst.
Never knew there was "Starbuck" hate until a guy here started hating on Kat bc she was a "Mary Sue" on stims. Sorry, I can't get behind that. Upon rewatch, Starbuck was equally a "Mary Sue" who also had "problems" with piloting her viper. My Pawnee godfather uses an old Hopi maxim: "There is no Wise tree with brances that fight amongst themselves to save it." In other words: Unity takes you further than intervention. We saw that when Kat kicked her habit, died helping others, & was praised by Adama just like he did his other "kids". :,T #SoSayWeAll!
@@alysiamerdavid-wasser9165 It's not that she's a Mary Sue, nothing wrong with Mary Sue/Gary Stu characters as long as they're not the lead. I just don't like those types of people.
She's overly emotional and doesn't think about how her actions effect others yet she's, somehow, in a position of leadership. She actually thinks that Lee's habit of thinking about others is a bad thing because that never occurs to her. Think about it, she's mad because Lee shot his shot and she ran away, how is any of this on Lee? She's habitually unfaithful to her husband and refuses to divorce him. Sure, Anders could divorce her but he's not the one that's wrong here. Maybe it's because I've always had to fight with people like her because I try to be considerate of others or I like to think I am but I just don't like who she is. Those types of people like to take people like me for granted and then get mad when you establish or re-establish boundaries.
@@printezstroman Sorry, i was still talking about Kat. I agree with EVERYTHING you wrote abt Kara. Her need to marry Anders didn't even make Sense to me! It came so far out of left-field & was so hurtful. i know that RDM seems to think that Katee is just the cutest thing ever, ESPECIALLY when she suggests shots after her bf is passed out, but all i see is danger. It's not cute to get drunk & decide to frak your bf's Brother! Smh..
@@alysiamerdavid-wasser9165 I used to think that Game of Thrones' writers' obsession with Arya Stark was bad but this is up there if not worse. I mean Starbuck should've been grounded at the least several times if not outright kicked out of the military.
@@printezstroman Agreed. Except, idk who Arya-sp? is. No Netflix/HBO/Amazon?-i never put my bank info online for anything, so idk how any of that stuff works. (i use a prepaid smartphone for internet access, & pay for cable & dvds.)
How can it be ok for guys to hit women in this society? Ive seen lee hit starbucks b4 that wasnt in a ring.
For one, they are not in society they are in the last dying gasps of humanity. Secondly, they are part of the military not society.
She always hits him first. Their relationship is extremely toxic
Their “civilization” is extremely unhealthy and dysfunctional. They’re on the run from machines they created. Bunch of F’up’s honestly.
@@lewstone5430 you sound like you have some internal issues to work out in regards to your relationship to humanity and human emotions and imperfection. just an observation. good luck.
Equal rights, equal lefts.
Listen, I loved Battlestar Galactica, but the boxing match between Lee and Kara was beyond stupid and unrealistic.
Dumb episode. Not a good look for Apollo.
It was a great episode and he looked just like he should. He has issues just as she did and in this episode they resolve a lot of hurt feelings and baggage. The episode was fantastic in my opinion!
Emotionally complex episode, but lousy writing. The boxing ritual is not mentioed before or after. Typical bottle episode.
@@gmee123the directness of your comment your comment made me chuckle.
Episodes like this make Battlestar Galactica a lousy show.
1) Too focused on emotions, instead of events
2) Lazy, poor writing. No woman, no matter the training or experience can withstand punches like that from a trained athletic male like Lee. She'd go to sleep and possibly be left a cripple after 2-3 of these punches.
Agreed. But Jaime Bamber is a pretty small dude. 174cm and she is 168cm. He might also be holding back. And she gets him with those kicks.
