The most powerful moment in BSG. You know it’s coming and it still hits you hard. The integration of the heart felt scenes with her Mother and her willingness of letting go of her own life is compelling, tragic, and somehow beautiful. It also hits you just as hard no matter how many times you watch it. I love this show.

It always kinda felt like the 'angels', 'god' and whoever else was orchestrating this just felt like screwing Starbuck.
After all she suffered throughout her life all she got was to nudge humanity to survival and then disappear into nothing, not even a cameo in the end scene to show us that she survives with the angels.

I've loved this show since I first watched it. I came for the big space battles, but what keeps me coming back is this deeper metaphysical aspect of the world they built. It's special. There's all the exploration of the human condition, but it goes much deeper into the nature of existence itself in a way that feels true to me. Don't know how they did it but so glad they did

I remember one time as a kid I was watching TV, and became anxious when a series regular was put in apparently mortal danger. My mom reassured me saying, "Don't worry. He has to be on next week." Ever since then, I haven't been impressed by contrived drama based on endangering a key character. Adama shot? Big deal, he'll survive. Roslin dying of cancer? Hah! The only question is how improbably her disease will be cured. Starbuck uncharacteristically accepts easily avoidable death? Yeah, whatever, see you next week. "No, stupid, I'm really going to die this time!" "Oh, OK, see you in THREE weeks." (yawn)
I vaguely recall reading something about Gene Roddenberry commenting on the original Star Trek series, to the effect that the premise was wrong. Rather than putting Kirk in danger week after week, the show should have given Kirk tough decisions to make, ones that affected the fates of other, more disposable characters. The Next Generation series had at least one such episode, i.e. the one in which a rich planet supplies a powerful addictive drug to a poor planet of clueless junkies (let me look it up..."Symbiosis", S01E21). Nobody on the Enterprise is in danger, but Picard has to make a difficult decision that could doom millions of innocent people to agony and possible death.

I was thinking the other day that Katee Sackhoff would have been AWESOME as Captain Marvel! And reviewing this scene I think they could have made it work, although it would be a bit of a stretch and maybe upset fans of the comics and maybe Battlestar but . . . Starbuck was from Earth and was a fighter pilot . . . and it was unclear if she dies right away or what! They could have spun it that what ever she flew into threw her back in time and to a different part of space and wiping her memories for the most part. I wish they would have done this as I think the Captain Marvel movie would have been SO much better as a result.

That's the consensus of the movie groups also. Captain Marvel in the movies was Carol Danvers. Blonde hair Caucasian. The actress was compared to a plank of wood. I think Katee Sackoff has a better range than that in just one scene.

According to TV Tropes that was genuine anger on the part of Edward James Olmos, and who had not been told that Starbuck would return. That model ship he smashed? That was an improvisation - the ship wasn't a prop, it was a museum piece being loaned to the production team, valued at over $100,000 (he didn't know that either).
